Games that I should pick up RIGHT NOW before they become rare

Over the years, I've had a ton of games go "under the radar" on me. Tons of RPGs and SRPGs go totally unnoticed and then I end up paying $75 for them a couple years later. I'm mostly looking to get RPGs that may become impossible to find in the near future.

So, a few games I've got already that are or may become tough to find:

Disgaea
Disgaea 2 (many have said this may become rare, but I'm just listing it so people don't post it)
Digital Devil Saga 1 Deluxe
Digital Devil Saga 2
SMT: Nocturne
MGS3:S LE
Lunar: SSSC
Rhapsody
Persona 2
Vagrant Story
(every PSX Final Fantasy game)
Castlevania: SOTN

If you guys have any other suggestions on what I could pick up now for fairly cheap that may cost me a lot in the future, that would be great.

Ugh. Are you serious? Let me get out my crystal balll...

Ok, it says buy every RPG that comes out that you like. Don't wait for an 'apparent' pricedrop. Ok, problem solved.

GQD will reprint rare games. Heck the only reason you owned a copy of Rhapsody and Persona 2 is because of them. Actually many people have said Disgaea 2 will not be rare because it is pubilsh by NISA.

Dunno on PS2, but on GBA and DS:

(Deep Labryinth and Summon Night: Swordcraft Story)

Going to disagree on Summon Night and Deep Labyrinth.

I heard DL sucks, so it's got that going against it, and it seems EB / GS and I think someone even said TRU got in copies of Summon Night. Both games are pretty plentiful and I don't think Atlus will short people on Summon Night espically if they want to build hype towards Summon Night 2.

And to people who always say "OMG buy Atlus games they are teh rarests!!!111"

No, they aren't, only a few of Atlus games are actually rare, the rest of them are pretty easy to find, espically recent Atlus games. I mean, does anyone think shit like Stella Deus or Metal Saga will go rare? Plenty of EB's near me still have 4 + of Metal Saga.

This gen is COMPLETELY different when it comes to rare games, because you know have publishers reprinting their own games (Wild Arms: Alter Code F, Phoenix Wright) and companies like GQD reprinting other peoples games. Believe me, it's only a matter of time before GQD reprints Disgaea.

The only two games I can see from this gen holding its value of MGS 3 LE (nobody will reprint an LE) and Marvel Vs Capcom 2 (licensing issues stop it from being reprinted).

Disgaea 2 will become about as rare as Phantom Brave or Makai Kingdom, which is to say it will never be rare at all, as NISA already expected a ton of demand and will overproduce the game, if anything, just like they have every SRPG since Disgaea.

Also, be careful with outright buying Atlus products in the hope that they increase in value. They have put out a handful of titles since the PS1 era to today where the titles are nowhere near as valuable as investors would have hoped. For example...

Bomberman Fantasy Race
Go! Go! Hypergrind
Super Dodge Ball Advance
Tail Concerto (semi-sought after, usually procurable for $10)
Virtual Hydlide

Just some examples. There are plenty of others but...nothing special. Good luck, though! I'd suggest popular through word-of-mouth, foreign RPGs (Japanese, Korean) that they tend to bring out, but even those are a shot in the dark. Sometimes they may appreciate in value if there are people who missed the boat and sometimes...nope.

Some of the recent XBox releases may become quite uncommon. Stuff like Call of Cthulu, Xyanide, and Outrun 2006: Coast to Coast (XBox version only). I highly doubt anyone will be reprinting late generation XBox stuff.

You may also want to look out for Sniper Elite (both PS2 and Xbox versions). That seems to have dropped off the face of the planet, at least at the retail stores near me.

Edit: Whoops, I forgot you were only looking for RPG's.

How is Sniper Elite by the way? Any other good sniper games out there? (this prob be its own thread...)

Kakuto Chojin on XBOX? I mean I did get it off of eBay for $5 a few months ago, but that game has basically been erased off the face of the earth.
Speaking of reprints, Zone of Enders 2 got reprinted.
I don't think that's a real reprint. they only have 9 in stock. Chances are they just bought them somewhere else.

That's a hard one...it seems like it should be rare and worth a lot more but I can still go to some stores and pick it up, sealed, for around $7.50 to $10. It may take a good period of time for it to ever really pick up in price but, if it isn't a higher price already, it probably won't reach that level.

I think what really helps some of these prices would not only be a small print run/low availability but also an excellent word-of-mouth.

Isn't that one that got recalled cause it had a anti-muslim reference or something in one of the levels?

I think this is one of those that you never really know. I would really think that a game like Katamari Damacy or Ico would be rare, and yet they aren't by any means.

One person said that a game sucked, and that had it going against it. I'm not really sure how much the quality of the game matters. Rarely (no pun intended) are the "rare" games actually better than the popular "non rare" counterpart. Personally, I owned Intellegent Cube back when it first came out. Had it for 3 days and took it back. If I knew it would be rare, I might have bit the bullet and kept it (though, it sells for $50 now, so I could re-buy it if I wanted it). I don't really remember it being a very good game (or even that well reviewed at the time).

I believe all it had were some passages from the Quran that were made into textures and stuck up like posters on some of the walls in the game. Apparantly, thats offensive enough to some Muslims that the game was recalled. I heard its a crap game either way. Ive seen it used for under $10 and passed it by.

I think Rare games only occur at the end of a systems life cycle. Look at all the Rare games for SNES and PSX. They were games that came out when Next Generation systems were on the horizon or already out. Such is the case with Valkyrie Profile, came out when the Dreamcast was about to launch and everyone overlooked it. Not to mention Final Fantasy VIII came out around the same time and the game got lost in all the AAA titles. I see some of the games coming out this winter could have the potential of being overlooked in all the AAA and PS3 launch hoopla. If Rogue Galaxy turns out to be an awesome game, it could be this generations Valkyrie Profile.

The game itself is not rare...
The first run of the game may be somewhat rare... BUT after the game was pulled due to the "offensive" music it was released with different music.

The only reason anyone buys it is due to the idea that it was recalled and is rare, which it is not...

I don't think it got reprinted either. I DO know, though, that EBStop has been specifically requesting them as trade-in games for bonus credit on preorders and things, so that's probably where they're all coming from.

Hahahahhaa, it's also listed at 39.99 on their website.
Look guys, it's adorable, they're trying to speculate PS2 game demand.

They also think they can get 39.99 for used copies of Suikoden 3.

eBay prices for both of these games hover around at least 1/3 lower. Isn't it usually the opposite, where the avg. price of a "rare" game on eBay is HIGHER than what you can buy it for at EB used?
