Just confirmed during Sony's press conference.

If you've been waiting for the PlayStation 3 to get even cheaper, your ship has come in. Today at Gamescom, Sony announced that the PS3 will now retail for $249.99, 249.99 Euros and 24,980 Yen. This is effective immediately. Previously, the PS3 sold for $299.99.

Sony also announced the 320GB PS3 unit will drop from $349 to $299 and a limited edition inFAMOUS 2 bundle is now available at participating retailers across North America. The bundle costs $299 and includes a 320 GB PlayStation 3, a copy of inFAMOUS 2 and a 30-day membership to PlayStation Plus.

Considering the power and size fit into such a small package, the Vita, at $250, is a solid price. The specs are quite high and again, small package. It actually has more RAM than the PS3 if I remember correctly, and that OLED screen is gorgeous. And really, we're paying a pretty damn good price for something so small with those specs. With a resolution of 900x540 (or thereabouts), the game will look almost as good as the PS3, possibly better given time.

And really, it boils down to: do I want to lug around my PS3 and Blu-ray case? Not really.

if it performs at the same power of a ps3 then maybe but as of now we dont know outside of specs and a few videos. anytime they say something performs at one level it always seems to be a bit less in reality.

I believe they've already shown off some gameplay footage...and it looks amazing.

I would still buy the Vita. Some people already have a PS3 and want a handheld console like the Vita

Exactly. The last few months I've been complaining to my fiancee that I would love to have the power and connectivity of the PS3 in the form of a handheld so I can game at night in the bedroom for an hour or two without being tied to the living room. Voila, the PS Vita ;)

But really, the graphics, the memory, the media capabilities, it's all amazing, and so long as the games are plentiful (rumor has it Sony has roughly 50 games lined up for the Vita launch), it should be a great bargain at $249.99.

Agreed. I would love to take with me to long trips also. I've told my girl friend so many times that when we go on long trips that the Vita would have been prefect at that time. The games look awesome honestly even if there not PS3 quality like the new game they announced today like Resistance: Burning Skies, Escape Plan, Assassins Creed etc.

GREAT, damn you sony, been reading/hearding rumors about price drop for the longest ever since my first launched B/C brick system YLOD twice earlier this year so had to buy a new one just last month, was going to wait a bit longer now i wish i should have, needed one pretty bad since i do streaming/watching movies on it. Oh well, Life goes on.
