blah blah blah gamestop is a scam so it's ok for me to rip them off blah blah blah

if you want to rip them off at least be straight up about it. i have no problem doing it and don't try to sugar coat anything. pussies.
Technically, billg, that is a really dumb comment that adds nothing to the discussion.

All this screwing over the company will only end up hurting the consumer. You look at it as you the individual doing it as being fine, but when you multiply that $10.00 coupon by a lot of people, it adds up. The company is going to get it back somehow and that is through lower trade values or higher used game prices. You can say you will not shop at g-stop or eb games anymore but when it comes to getting used games offline, how many places are there with a good selection. Not many.
I highly doubt that if people on this site use the coupon it will hurt Gamestop in anyway shape or form. So even if we all used the coupon they will not make any changes to anything. ANd like i said before for people who dont like it, dont use it and there is no point to even argue it, its a waste of time

Doesn't this just open the floodgates for a never ending stream of fake coupons?

Couldn't just about anyone with a graphics program just make up a legit looking coupon and post it here for all to try and use?

The Best Buy coupon was atleast a copy of a real coupon with a UPC. Whether Best Buy accepts them is their responsibilty regardless of the morality of the coupon user.

This here coupon is a different thing altogether in my opinion. I mean, why not just make a coupon up for every store that sells games and make it look legit, then take them all over hell to see if some hourly sap accepts it?

First of all, who made you the hall monitor? As is stands, there is a coupon out there that we can use, and the details on how exactly we can use it are hazy. Some of us will choose to use it and risk the possible consequences, some of us will not. That is our choice.
i don't know. one day he came over and gave me like 3 of them. saying they were supposed to give them out but never did. i just thought i would share it with ya'll.
Wow, this definately sounds fishy... at least with stuff like the Best Buy coupon, everyone knows EXACTLY where it came from.

The fact that you pulled the coupon down pretty fast puts up an alarm, as well. I don't mind using a photocopy of a real coupon, if I knew exactly where it came from... that's Best Buy's fault for accepting it, not mine, but at least mine can be validated.

Not sure if I want to use a "mystery coupon" with no real source, however... that's kind of getting into shady territory. Espically a coupon that is apparently JUST $10 off, with no limits on it? I don't think Gamestop would ever be that stupid, because that is easily abusable.

Almost got upset that I just had bought two dance pads at Gamestop for $20 a pop... then read enough to know this was a scam. Ah well.

Practically every single coupon that gets posted in this forum says "no copies allowed."

Why is everyone up in arms over this one, but none of the others?
*useless waste of space text removed*
can a mod please keep an eye on this guy? nothing but rude, hateful shit from him since he started posting; i hope his existence here isn't a long one...

you have all the right to say it sounds fishy. i don't know where the coupon came from because i don't work at gamestop. my friend does. he can tell you if it came from if he registers.

it's funny. i hung out with tonight andi told him this whole controversy started up over his coupon and he laughed. he said he would register and clear anything up. but he's lazy as fuck so we'll see how long that takes.

i sent a copy of the coupon to cheapyd so he can tell me if it's cool to repost or not. all i know is im using this till may because i know it's real and i know it works and i don't have a porblem with making copies of it. i wouldn't lie to any CAGers and possibly get them in trouble. that's stupid.

my manager at game crazy used to be the manager of a gamestop and he told me he has a shitload of these expired coupons lying around his apartment. i can even ask him (since he was a manager) if he knows exactly where they came from and what they were for.

even if i can't repost it. im still using it......... alot. because i really don't care.

gamestop is pretty dumb though. i can't believe they still have that buy a used game and return it for your money back within 7 days. that's just asking for piracy. which is shitty.

now i see this being turned around against me. "omg you don't like piracy but you like using 10 dollar photocopied coupons!! shame on you!" yeah i do. so what.
Practically every single coupon that gets posted in this forum says "no copies allowed."

that's what i was wondering as well.

i figured it's because people think i photoshopped it. but i didn't. and the few people in this thread who did use it know it works. im glad i was able to help them.

According to a knowledgable DM in Ohio, that coupon is FAKE IS SHIT. There are about 5 things that give it away, and the terms at the bottom are worded all ass backwards. He also said that if any of the employees in his region are dumb enough to take it, he's gonna stomp their ass.

Dave
like i said. this might only be a so. cal/cali. thing. also, how did you approach him about it? did you just say "hey look what i got off the internet." or "is this real?" cause im sure if you say anything about the internet he'll shut it down.

if you all don't think it's real i really don't mind. like i said. it's real. it works. another guy on this thread confirmed it real (i assume he's a GS employee) and people in this thread have used it. ha. i'll even post receipts everytime i use it just to show you it's real. im def. using it on DMC3 special edition.

i wouldn't lie to thousands of members on a sick ass website. that's retarted as fuck.

I haven't seen ANYONE confirm this is a legitimate coupon. If someone has success using it, that doesn't mean it's real, it just means they convinced the employee that it was, or the employee didn't give a rats ass to begin with.

Now, if you mean "real" as in you are holding "real" copies of the coupon in your hand, that's true. But that's about it. This coupon is not a legitimate coupon, and was never issued by Gamestop. If you want me to run down the list of reasons why it's fake, I can. Take that to the bank (with your $10 you saved, of course :))

And that's about the 10th time you mentioned how you wouldn't lie to a bunch of people on a website. The lady doth protest too much, methinks.

Edit: yeah it'd be retarded, but it'd hardly be the worst that's happened on this site. Anyone remember the dude in the Suiky 4 contest thread that pretended that he was in a coma due to a Tourette's attack?

Dave

like i said dude. if you don't believe it is real then dont believe it. you didn't answer my question though. how did you approach this DM about it? i guarantee if you mentioned internet at all he would give you a no on it.

from what i remember it was the second time (maybe 3rd havn't checked) i said i would not lie to fellow CAGers. which is just because people (like you) accuse me of being a liar.

once again... it IS very possible that ohio gamestops did not get these. honestly the only people who would seriously know if it were real would be GS's corporate employees. not a DM, not a manager, and not anyone else. these came from a gamestop here in chula vista.

if i were lying i seriously wouldn't let it drag this long. it'd be a waste of cheapyD's time to approve/not approve of it and a waste of time to anyone who is waiting for a repost.

Just wonderin', but the receipt shows a date of Jan 2, 2006. Why'd you take so long to post the coupon?

OP, I hope you can understand the skepticism going around here. It's almost like Gamestop is giving away $10. I really do hope this is legit cause there is a bunch of games I'd pick up for $10 less than what they're asking.

Ok, first off, apparently not many people on this site are smart enough to realize that this and the BB coupon are worlds apart because more than one person can confirm the origins of the coupon. I went into a BB myself, as did a million other people, and we all got the Xbox 360 DVD and got the coupon. Chances are a good portion of us have the unused portions of the booklet sitting around, because who in the hell wants Psyclone cables?

That is a far cry from "my friend found these and gave them to me and told me I could put them up on a site to be used."

Wow. I bought a tv from a guy on the street once, because he said he didn't steal it from a store, he was just giving me a really good deal. /sarcasm

How stupid do some of you honestly think corporate America is? How many of you are naive enough to think they aren't watching CAG, slickdealz, Fat wallet, and every other "deal" site constantly? I got news for you - they are, and the moment this shit gets out of hand - like, say, I don't know, POSTING A FAKE COUPON - how long til you think they'll crack down on this shit and bring the legal hammer down on everyone? These are people FAR greedier than you, AND they have access to resources to fuck you up and shut you down WAY better than you do. Plus, the law tends to side with them. So fuck with them if you want, but they will slap you around with their cocks until you're in submission and crying uncle.

If you think a company like Gamestop - who is suffering economic trouble right now - won't pay several high priced lawyers several hundred (if not thousand) dollars to comb through this site and pick out people with obvious admittances to illegal activities, then you need to go back to elementary school. Trust me - they think whatever money they have to spend to save and make money in the future is a worthwhile investment. might not be today or tomorrow, but it will come, given that CAG and other sites will only grow in popularity.

As for all the bullshit arguments about "Gamestop is evil" and "if you don't like it don't be a dick about it" and "if you don't use it you are a pussy," just fucking stop. I have every right to call you out for being a fuckhead as much as you have every right to call me a pussy, but goddammit, I'm going to take my chances. I have nothing to gain or lose on some stupid Internet forum housing a bunch of nerdy kids (myself included), let alone caring about respect or some other nonsense bullshit.

Also, and this might surprise some of you, but I took Philosophy 101 too, and I thought I was hot shit when I first learned certain theories, and one of them was the bullshit argument about how all morality is relative. No need to go indepth about this, but it's a stupid argument and always has been. If that is the case, there is NOTHING stopping ANYONE from doing ANYTHING. And like it or not, there are some moral absolutes. If you don't think that, welcome to fucking reality, because stealing is definitely not kosher with, oh, everyone on the fucking planet. And if you say otherwise, you're a hypocrite, otherwise I challenge you to never lock your doors/car/etc again, as well as putting up being fucking neon signs saying "PLEASE STEAL THIS, AS STEALING IS OKAY."

The idioicy of this site WILL hurt us in the end, people. It's not a question of if, it's a question of when. And if you are naive enough to think companies won't come hunting down our collective asses based on the actions of a few, you are sorely, sorely wrong, and you need to pull your head out of your ass.

I'm done with this argument. I'm going to get a bunch of weak and stupid arguments from a bunch of kids who think they know better than me, but they are fucking wrong.

i questioned the "no photocopies" thing for a while. honestly, like a week or more. i also wondered if i should contact cheapyd before even posting it. then when i finally came to the conclusion that no one gave a fuck about the best buy coupons i figured i would post it.

then i never had a photobucket account. and the last time i remembered trying to sign up for one they wanted five dollars for an account so i said screw it. i thought that was weird considering all my friends said they got it for free (but they had theirs a year or so before me). so i wiated till i deposited my paycheck (today) and then realized photobucket was free. so this whole time i thought you had to pay five bucks for one. so i basically decided to lay down 5 bucks (im part of CAG aren't i? lol) for an account today, which i didn't have to do. and post the money saving goodness.
like i said dude. if you don't believe it is real then dont believe it. you didn't answer my question though. how did you approach this DM about it? i guarantee if you mentioned internet at all he would give you a no on it.

Now you are just acting silly. It's not a matter of belief - the coupon is EASILY PROVEN TO BE A FAKE. You are the one that seems to be going out of your way to want to believe it's real. The only argument you have for it being real is that a friend of yours named "Walter" gave it to you then let you use it at his store, which is a dubious story at best.

HERE'S A TON OF INDEPENDENT SIGNS THE COUPON IS FAKE/ALTERED

1 - The Expiration Date of May 2006 - Gamestop coupons NEVER have that long of a lifespan, they usually expire within 1-2 months, never past 3.

2 - The fact that it's a $10 off $10 coupon. Gamestop hasn't issued any coupons like that in at least a year. Personally, I can't even remember the last $10 off $50. And Gamestop doesn't offer those type of coupons as a customer concession, they use gift cards.

3 - Ever since around November, coupons specifically have the print "Not redeemable at EB Games". This is due to the "dual sale" flyers like the Black Friday one confusing the shit out of people assuming that sales would be indentical from now on.

4 - May 20, 2006 being larger text. Gamestop coupons have uniform text size in the "terms" sections at the bottom.

5 - The phrases "offer valid through", "coupon may not be combined..." and the photocopy phrase are ALL WORDED INCORRECTLY from legitimate gamestop coupons.

6 - There hasn't been a coupon with the store list "babbages, funcoland, etc" on it in a LONG, LONG TIME. Neither has there been a coupon from them with the phrase "Void where prohibited". These indicate the obvious answer is this was a very old coupon with an altered date

So, no, it's not whether I believe something, it's about YOU being in denial.

And its irrelevant how I approached the DM about it. I like how you make some lame ass stereotype about how he hates the internet, but thats simply not true. As a matter of fact, he LOVES the internet after I tossed a TRU clearance list his way. Not to mention I'm a regular at multiple stores in his region, so it's not like I'm some Randy thats just spouting off nonsense. I know what I'm talking about, thanks.

And your regional argument is also pretty lame. AFIAK - I've never seen any regional specific gamestop coupons posted on this site. EVER. It doesn't matter anyways, when there's so many blatant signs that the coupon isn't valid.

You tried to lump me in with the mob, but I really don't care. You don't see me talking about how evil people are for using this, because 1) I'm not going to lose sleep over it and 2) I believe in karma, so you are gonna have $10 fall out of your pocket eventually to make up for this nonsense. I'd just apologize if I were you and lock this shit up, because there is about a 0% chance Cheapy lets that coupon on this site again. This isn't amateur hour kiddies, even FatWallet would be ashamed of you.

them fucking my shit up is why i thought long and hard about putting up a coupon that says "no photocopies". this thread would have never even seen the light of day if these were fake coupons.

all i know it's real. i got it from an employee and i can totally see why people think it might be a fake. i didn't trick any employee into thinking it's real. at one of the gamestops i went to the manager did not even read the terms etc etc. he just saw it and did it.

but since you are the one claiming you spoke to a DM im sure cheapyd will see this thread gone pretty soon.

im not dumb enough to see that you're argument is much better than mine right now. i know me getting it from a friend and scanning it and using it isn't exaclty the best argument to prove it is real... but that's all i have. because that's all i know.

i have nothing to apologize for because i know where i got this coupon from. and like i said 10000 times... i know its real.

So what your saying is since millions of people had the Best Buy coupon then its ok to Print it out on your home computer and use it........and wasnt that coupon altered also by people........so there is no difference here......BTW i would use the fuck out of this thing if I wasnt broke

While i agree with most of Strell's argument, i don't agree they will come hunting down our "collective asses". I have never printed off a coupon and have no intention of doing so. Im positive there are tons more like me. You can't "hunt down" someone for browsing an informative website. I would be concerned about a company hiring lawyers to shut down a website that is hosting forged and fake coupons though. Let's not forget that you are screwing with a Fortune 500 company and they have plenty of time, money and resources to hunt down things that are costing them money.

No, I didn't say that at all. I do not condone the use of printing it out. I have said that in other threads multiple times. I was merely pointing out that the difference here and there is massive.

Wrong is wrong. That is my point entirely. Gamestop's selling used games as new is every bit as wrong as someone "getting back at them" with a fake coupon.

Shuerm, I don't think they'd come after people individually, I think they'd just kill the source. Hence the wording of "collective."

True, damn true my friend. When I first saw it I thought we were on to something until I realized that I actually had seen this exact coupon sometime earlier last year.

As I mentioned before, I went to Gamestop and talked to the manager last night. I asked him, and he said he saw it in his coupon list on the POS. He said it was till active, so I'm pretty sure it is/was valid at one point.
all i know it's real. i got it from an employee and i can totally see why people think it might be a fake. i didn't trick any employee into thinking it's real. at one of the gamestops i went to the manager did not even read the terms etc etc. he just saw it and did it.

but since you are the one claiming you spoke to a DM im sure cheapyd will see this thread gone pretty soon.

im not dumb enough to see that you're argument is much better than mine right now. i know me getting it from a friend and scanning it and using it isn't exaclty the best argument to prove it is real... but that's all i have. because that's all i know.

i have nothing to apologize for because i know where i got this coupon from. and like i said 10000 times... i know its real.
You know, if you were so confident it was real, not fake or altered, then why do you seem so worried? You would not be plastered to your computer trying to reply to each and every post in this thread defending yourself.

Also, there are many Gamestop employee's that are members of CAG I believe, why have they not posted anything about this coupon? So far, it has only been an exclusive xrickyb86x coupon.

Man, this is deva vu all over again....

The issues of morality here are moot; it' essentially the same thing as the BB coupon, which was not taken off for whatever reason. The coupon clearly says no copies. If a clerk accepts it, then he/she is guilty of two things:
1) Not giving a fuck
2) Not reading the coupon.

If the coupon is fake, however, I agree that it should be taken off. If it is legit, then it is the responsibility of Gamestop to accept it/ reject it.

PS: As a matter of fact I can recall a photoshopped BB coupon with the "no copies" portion taken out... And still, that's acceptable and this isn't? Please.

Im sure the same people who don't find this one acceptable feel the same about the others. This is just more recent so people are posting. I would think that you could change the gamestop coupon to any other fake coupon or altered coupon in a thread and you would get the same response.

"Hello EXACTLY"-Boogie Nights

Wow this thread has exploded since yesterday. Anyway here's my 2 cents.
xrickyb86x, you claim it's real.. and that you got it from someone that actually works at GS. However, the fact that they were not given out to the public at large makes it seem misty. So, it may be real for you... but there are so many obvious clues (MightySlacker's post) that indicate that this coupon was doctored.. which is why just about everyone posting here doesn't believe it.

can someone just post if whether the coupon works or not at their local GS, and stop arguing over this stupid shit damn, some people are hella stupid, if you are not gonna use the coupon then STFU. BTW I'll use the coupon as soon as I can at EB or GS at San Jose Area.

Yeah, do you people REALLY care about some CHEAP ASS DEAL being "forgery"? Then sorry, but ... shut the fuck up. Why care about some dumb possibility that the coupon is fake? Why make a whole 7 page debate over it? Print out the coupon, drive to Gamestop, choose a game, buy it, show the coupon. Did they accept it? Great. Did they not? Then get on with your fuckin' life and stop making an ordeal over this pointless shit. Every second you shit out arguments about the damn coupon like: "This coupon is forgery! Do not use it or you will go to hell!" is wasting your and everybody else's time. I, personally, might use this coupon regardless of wether this is real or not. Just as long as get the 10 bucks off.

Reality's Fringe]As I mentioned before said:
thank you.

the coupon was real fellas.

im not upset about the morality debate thing. that's fine and is good debate anyway. im upset about being considered a liar. i was just trying to help out the few CAGers who would be down to use them. like i said, im going to still be using it.

but cheapyD said not to repost because the origin of the coupon is unknown.

but thank you reality's fringe. which gamestop did you go to? city, state?

if someone was accusing you of being a liar. what would you do?

because lets face it dude. it's the internet. i plan on using this website for as long as i can. i don't want to get some "liar" rep. built up about me and then have CAGers abandon the fact that i did nothing wrong and was just trying to help them out.

the guy a few posts ahead of you confirmed the realness of it. you can choose whether to believe him or not.

I think that's the problem most people have... or I assume so. Hopefully the origin will be found.

I imagine CheapyD can get in some deep shit if people start putting up forged and fake coupons to scam stores with on his website, and he didn't do anything... I'm not saying anything bad against you, I'm just surprised so many people would advocate the use of a fake coupon if one ever came up, and they knew it was a fake to begin with.

Mostly directed to the idiot "xboxowns" a few posts up.

in san diego it worked at the chula vista and lemon grove locations. a few other people on here used it as well hopefully they repost in this thread and let you know where it worked.

i totally understand why people might be sketched out about. im a sensible guy and i put myself in their position and i understand why they might not believe me. i feel no shame in using it since i do know it's real (broken record player) but i understand why it can't come back, for now. shit im going to do my best to find out EXACTLY where this coupon came from and what purpose it serves so hopefully one day (before may) it can come back and help the few of you who are unsure about it.

does anyone know if gamestop has like a little book or something with what coupons they accept at the moment and info about them (how much off, exp. date, etc.)? cause if so, i do have sources to get my hands on maybe a photocopy of the sheet or a digital camera shot.

I'm not one to print coupons that weren't supposed to be printed but I headed out to the Gamestop that the OP went to. I looked around for a few minutes and didn't see anything about a coupon of any type. I'd gladly use the coupon if it was official and something an employee handed to me but it wasn't the case.

this is a REAL coupon. I am an employee at GS and these are usually given out by the store manager to employees if you do something "above and beyond" or they are given to cusomers if they have to go through a big hasstle. They work on any item in the store that is ABOVE $10.00. You can only use one per transaction. And they dont work on consoles. If anyone thinks im bullshiting or the manager tells you these are fake tell them to press F7 and its called the "GS -$10 coupon" or something to that effect. Also there is an "extra 10% off" coupon in the Game Informer this month, so if you have a Gamestop More Card use that coupon and get 20% off the price. if anyone has anymore questions feel free to pm me

edit: also if you can, try and get the coupon back to reuse. Corperate doesnt want these included with our closeout reports anymore (but they do want Gamebucks and Storebucks). So if the employee seems like a cool dude ask if you can get it back.

What location are you at? I'm on the east coast and none of our stores have these things. I've worked at all the locations in my city, which is 4 different stores, and NONE of them have it. I do realize that there is that option of "GS -$10 coupon" but they have never shown up at any of our locations making this questionable. It could be a region specific coupon which is what we are trying to narrow down.

i work in southern california

So far the only instances of the coupon working are from people in Southern California. I'm in Southern California, so I'll try it on Tuesday when the new DMC:3 comes out. If that doesn't work, I'll just head over to Best Buy and use the $5 coupon.
