Gamestop 25% off Game Boy/Color games

Let the clearance begin!

I saw signage up in Gamestop yesterday that said that all Game Boy and Game Boy Color games (and accessories?) are now 25% off. Gamestop stopped taking trade-ins of GB and GBC stuff at the beginning of April, so this looks like the start of the liquidation of their remaining stock.

As usual, the 25% off should stack with Edge. Also, you can use the Gamestop website to track games in stock.

Don't miss hansolox1's great thread here on GB/GBC games that are already reasonably cheap before discount.

---!Speculation!---
Based upon the PS1/N64/DC clearance, the clearance schedule should probably go something like this:

25% off>Buy 2 get 1 free>50% off>75% off>destruction of remaining inventory

If anyone wants to speculate on the time schedule for this, I'd be interested in reading about it
---/SPECULATION---

(Hope this is not a repost.)

Damn, the 4 near me don't have any Gameboy games left, and the one that had a good amount is kind of far away.

My local GS's don't ever have good Game Boy games when I go in. All of them are loaded down with Powerpuff Girls games that they haven't been able to sell for the last year. It makes me angry, two summers ago I saw a copy of Metroid II at my mall for $10. My friend who was with me talked me out of it because it is the worst Metroid game (I didn't have a job back then and just bought things off of birthday money I'd been saving up since I was 8, so even $10 wasn't something I just threw around). Later I realized that even if that's true, it is still an awesome game, but I've never seen a copy in stock since then, and now I know I never will. A similar story is that another GS by me had a copy of the first GB Megaman in their case for a year for a similar $10. I had a job by this time, but I didn't go for it because I was still hoping they'd start working on Megaman Mania again. By the time I admitted it was never going to happen the game was gone.
Hmm does this stack with the current buy 2 get 1 free going on now? That would be awesome!
Nope! (Tried yesterday. Why did they set this up now?)

Not sure how you can check Game Boy game instock inventory any more. I used my "sku" web address method and all the Game Boy game pages come up as "badurl" address and "Page Not found"....

Oh well, I can always use the more accurate method and check at work...

Yeah, this would be a great time to buy GB games, but without the store locator it's almost too much of a hassle.

I bought a whole bunch of GBC games yesterday and there was no clearance price on them, however they were discounted enough with the b2g1 to not even need a clearance price (2.99 per game, with b2g1, you can't get much lower than that). If they start clearancing them here I will buy more.

Awesome! Looks like my GB is gonna get some new games.

And off topic but, the OP mentioned the clearance schedule. did all of the stores drestory the Ps1 stuff already?

I would suggest just heading over to local Gamestops because I hit one locally and they literally had 2 MASSIVE boxes full of games. There were tons of copies of everything on hansolox1's list at the one I went to in Rotterdam, NY. The guy there said other stores have a similar inventory system and you should just head there and sift through the boxes and see what they have. Anyway I walked away with 9 games, 3 of which I got free.

What are some valuable Game Boy/Color games? I want some for myself, but if I see any valuable ones I'd consider reselling.

Oh yeah, I just sold a lot of eBay of:

Pokemon FireRed
Pokemon LeafGreen
Pokemon Gold
Pokemon Blue
Pokemon Yellow

for $46. Not bad considering I all of them for $10 total. And all of them were cart only, and each GBC game had considerable cosmetic damage. Those certainly have value.
Pokémon is getting popular again so I gotta stock up on some ol' school games. = ]
When they had Pokemon red and blue for 2.99 each, I did resell a few of them for about 10-12 apiece... then they raised the price to 10

Wow, I didn't even realize GS even had GB/Color games anymore, what with their recent policy of getting rid of all older-gen stuff. Which is understandable, but it just sucks because there's nothing else in my town anymore (GS bought out EB and Rhino, the only other competitors in the area.) Oh well, hopefully when I head there Sunday they have some stuff worth picking up.

Does this apply to GBA, or just GB/GBC?

And, re: the dead batteries, at least for GBA if it has batteries it's a bootleg. Does the same apply for GB/GBC games? I thought any cartridge with batteries for saves was an illegal bootleg copy. Looking at the pics in the battery-replacement link, the PCB does not appear to have any Nintendo markins on it either... but I don't know anything about spotting GB/GBC bootlegs.

so far no one has speculated on the timeline for the price drops... any of the more experienced CAGers have predictions? i'm sure a lot of us would like to know how long we can wait before it gets reduced some more

If you dont see any GB, GBC games at your store, that doesnt mean they dont have any, many times, they have more than you would think.... a couple stores I went to last year had a couple boxes worth of games they would let me dig through

Picked up:

Super Mario Land 2
Wario Land 2
Wario Land 3
Game & Watch Gallery 2
Game & Watch Gallery 3
Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons

Oracle of Seasons seems to be a lot rarer than Oracle of Ages around here. I'm hoping to pick up Game & Watch 1 sometime this weekend. I was also hoping to luck into a Gameboy Camera and Kid Icarus, but the site doesn't locate any in my area.

I've seen many GBC games with batteries that weren't bootlegs. With clear-cased games like Pokemon Crystal and SMB Deluxe you can see the battery through the case.

Are you able to transfer pokemon from the old gameboy games to Diamond/Pearl using the Pal Park thing, or is that just the GBA ones that can do it?

Only the GBA ones can do that as the DS cannot play GB or GBC games.

Pal Park only works for GBA games.

I might go take a look at the GameStop around the corner. I still have an original Game Boy and a translucent purple Color.

There are some GBA games that do use batteries, and you won't be able to see them unless you take the game apart (this requires special tools, easy to obtain if you want to bother). I have 130 GBA games and there are really only a few older titles that use batteries such as Pokemon Sapphire, Ruby Emerald and the Castlevania ones. Also the Monster Rancher ones have batteries.

With GBC games the risk of getting a bootleg should be nearly nil, or very very small. To do a quick check just make sure they have a number imprinted on the label sometimes it will be hard to see but it should be there, I'd be a little more careful with the Pokemon games but since I have the tools to open them up I can just do that to see if they are bootleg.

interesting... so you just asked them for it and they brought out a box from the back?

i checked out my local GS today and they had only the crappy powerpuff girls games people were talking about... no zelda, wario, mario, or harvest moon =[

Bought some more games today, had a sign up for 25% off, didn't get the 25% off only got B2G1, not sure if I was supposed to get both or not. What does everyone think here, both deals were advertised in the store?

I know of a Gamestop here that has a massive filled binder of GBC games, so I will have to hit that location up when the sale hits a really cheap price. You have to ask for the binder, I think there are 2 binders in this location.

Generally Gamestop will only offer one promotion on a purchase at a time (plus Edge). Anything else requires a manual override.

Picked up Mega Man Xtreme at Layton Ut store at the mall for $6.50 + tax after discount and edge and picked up Mega Man Xtreme 2 at Clinton, Ut store for $6.50 + tax after discount and edge. I tried to get buy 2 get 1 free but they will not allow it. Only one promotion or the other, not both.

Checked out the Gamestop(s) in Albany, Georgia... they had absolutely nothing. There are 3 GS stores there now (since they bought out both EB and Rhino Video Games), and there were MAYBE 15 games total at all of the stores, and all of them were crap. Oh well, guess I'll just have to rely on CAG for my GB/GBC games :)

went to a bunch of gamestops and actually found copies of BIONIC COMMANDO ($2.99) and HARVEST MOON ($6.99). whaddaya guys think, should i bite?

when do you guys think they'll move on to the B2G1 free deal on GB/GBC games? i kinda wanna wait but these are great games that i'd love to own (too bad there's no manual or boxes...)

I checked out a new GS location and found Snow Brothers for $3.xx after 25% off + Edge discount. I'd actually been looking for the game, but just happened to be lucky to find it, as it's page is no longer on GS.com.

Today got-

Tomb raider- $2.24
Shadowgate classic- $2.24
Rampart- $2.99
Double Dragon 2- $2.24
Castlvania adventures- $2.24
Castlvania 2 : Belmonts revenge- $3.74
Dragon Warrior 3- $3.74 ( although it says Dragon Warrior 2 on my receipt... )

Hi everyone,

Here is my list of GBA games to hunt for that were not made or were distributed by Nintendo:

http://www.nt2099.com/J-ENT/news/vi...games-not-developed-or-published-by-nintendo/

For Shin Megami Tensei fans (especially those buying Persona, Digital Devil Saga and Nocturne), two GBA games that people are not aware are Shin Megami Tensei games released in the US are the "Demi-Kids" (light and dark versions).

As for the most difficult GBA game to hunt for (popular games), I had a poll done awhile back and it seems that "Ninja Five-O", "Duke Nukem Advance" and "Doom" were the most difficult. "Tactics Ogrew" was on the list but some people are reporting to have found them.

^^I have Tactic Ogre. Also, thing is GBA games aren't on sale so your list doesn't really fit here... Despite being awesome for including Jet Set Radio.

Oh crap...thought GBA's were part of that....achh. Man, I don't think I have seen GBC or GBA games at any of our stores in the past three years :(

There was a Dragon Quest game and a few Zelda's that I wanted...

Doesnt mean they dont have them... they probably have so many GBA games, there is no room for the older games (which you'd need to ask a cashier for... Ive been to stores where they had to bring out boxes of older games

If you're interested in the GB/GBC games, most stores that I've been to do have boxes behind the counter.

I've picked up a few games that I was missing (Link's Awakening DX and Power Quest are the two I was happiest about), but there are a few oddball titles that I can't find and probably won't be able to. I used to love Wario Blast, for instance, and that one's obscure enough that it's been almost impossible to find.

My GS had like 20x copies of pokemon red, blue and yellow, 10x copies of Zelda oracle of Ages, 4x copies of Zelda Oracle of Seasons and a bunch of crap games.

Just picked up one copy of seasons for 3.52, I may just buy em all up cause they are so cheap lol. Anyone interested in trading for some?

I need oracle of ages, but I think thats stuck at 10$ so would have to wait until the sale gets better for an extra cheap price.
