Gamestop calls me to offer me a trade-in deal for my Kingdom Hearts 2

My district manager (who was one for EB before the transition so this was also new to him) said that this was more of a loss prevention thing. A lot of people do fake trade-ins to make it less obvious that they were stealing money/credit from the store so doing random follow-up calls helps prevent this from happening.


I am so glad I don't work there anymore, hehe.
 
A few months ago I got a call from HHH reminding me to order Wrestlemania. I love that message, I keep hitting 9 to save it, and every 30 days it comes up again in my about to be deleted list, I listen to it, and hit 9 to save it again! lol

I know the calls from GS are lame, but I dont see why people are getting that upset over them. I actually appreciate their 'come pick up your preorder' calls.

That happened to my dad one time, though it was the place he bought it from. He has a mitsubishi something and they weren't getting any traded in, but people wanted to buy them used.
 
i got a phone call the other week from gamestop saying trade in 2 xbox 360 games get one free. Told them im on the DO NOT CALL List and will be reporting their sorry asses . i hope the get the #$#$#$ fine out of them

Same kind of thing happened to me the satrurday. They were trying to sell me NSMB and I was like, I'll get it later when it's cheaper. There's no way I'm paying $35 for that game as soon as it comes out. Then he said, you'll be waiting a long time then. So what? I wait all the time so I can buy games for a good price. Why the crap do I have to get a game right when it comes out. The employees just didn't understand.

I never trade or pre order anything from them.

I only go into that store if there is an old game I am looking for that I can't find anywhere else as in a respectible store.

I have only traded something with them ONCE and that was 2 years ago.

Anyways thank god my local EB/GS never bugs me about trades. If they call me, I would tell them to fuck off.

Woah, apparently I'm the only person to NOT hate GS/EB. The guys at my store have known me and my best friend since opening day (we traded in over 200 dollars worth of used games). I never get pressured to pick something up, or buy the guide. Occasionally they'll offer a preorder if there's something awesome with it and/or it's funny (like offering me Halo 3 knowing I don't own an xbox and can't stand FPS's).

Hell, sometimes they even give me leftover preorder bonuses for free if I preorder something or buy something related.

I love my local gamestop.

I just got a call from this number, and didn't answer so i googled it and found this thread. Wish I had, although i have not bought a game from gamestop in several months, i did just pre-order a few games.
 
If you just preordered within the last few days, it was probably a courtesy call asking you to answer a few questions about your visit.

I like that too, I got a T-shirt of Kratos from God of War yesterday for pre-ordering wario ware: smooth moves :/
 
I remember a few years back when i had Madden 05 preordered. I got the call saying that my game has arrived. I was so excited driving down until the guy said that they hadn't recieved any shipments, so I would have to wait a couple days. Boo!!
 
First off, I never buy games from GS/EB anymore. New or used. The employees at every one I've been to in the last couple years are pushy jerks. Gamecrazy gets my B&M business.

Second, I never, ever, ever, ever, ever give my phone number to a store unless I am scheduling a delivery of something. If I can't avoid it, I give them an old number, or a fake one. I stay informed of gaming news enough to know when a game is being released, or if there is a delay. If I have any doubt, I call the store a couple days before to get the scoop.

But I usually order online. Sometimes I even get the game a day or two before the street date. Well, I USED to. That hasn't happened in a while. Bastids!

But at any retailer, if you are trading in games, you are getting JACKED.

If you are looking to "trade-in" games, sell them on Ebay. The secret is to offer free shipping, and bring it in 5 dollars under whatever GS/EB is charging used. Shipping is not that much- for instance, shipping from my ZIP code to Bangor, Maine (about the farthest place I can think of in the US) via Priority Mail, which is GUARANTEED 2-3 day is $4.05 for a 1/2 pound package. First class is $1.59! You're still going to get twice as much as you would at GS/EB, easily. And it's CA$H, not lame-a$$ store credit.

In fact, thats the only time I go into a Game Stop, is to see what they're charging for a game, so I can under-cut them online. Hehehe :bouncy:

It's an acronym for an automated calling system. And back in the day they tried to get us EB'ers to call people and say hey are you enjoying that game you purchased well we have an awesome one coming out so come on down and bring some trades. We usually found something better to do and ignored them.
