Gamestop charging refurb fees for disc-only games?
If it were only a dollar, it wouldn't be as big of an issue. However, several of the games were hit with a fee of $2. With a base of $5 trade-in value, that's a HUGE hit. It's a bad policy, regardless of how many people want complete games. If they change the price of disc-only games, I'll change my tune.
There is NO GOOD REASON to have games without even a basic DVD case nowadays. I mean, unless you live in a matchbox sized apartment, but that's what they make PODS and storage lockers for, for those without space.

I've traded in a total of twelve or so disc only games before, one of them being Shadow Hearts: Covenant  and any time they've said they 'have to charge me a fee', I've gone to another Gamestop and they've taken them with NO problem and even given me the bonuses I was supposed to get for the trades.

However, if you're a klutz enough to lose the cases, might I suggest one thing to stop them from pestering you with refurb fees in the future:

Replacement DVD cases(100 pack):$29.99
http://www.supermediastore.com/black-dvd-cases-100.html

I'm not sure what the cost will be with shipping included, but before shipping costs are factored in, it comes out to 29 cents PER case. At least in that way they can't complain about your disc only games anymore and you can't complain about being 'unfairly' charged a fee for them.

I'm a hypocrite when it comes to this topic though, as I'll trade in disc only games whenever the trades will benefit me via bonuses and what not, but I still prefer my games I buy to be complete and mint/near mint.

The games in question were purchased from Craigslist earlier in the day. They were all disc-only when purchased. I don't believe I've ever lost a game case. However, I have tossed out a game... :whistle2:x Tales of Destiny to boot.

It's been a while, but if I remember correctly, Funcoland (before it was turned into what is now Gamestop/EB), would give extra for box and extra for the manual. It was an incentive for people to keep them.

My mom was anal about us keeping the boxes and manuals for this reason. I think it came to $5 extra trade in credit on some games.

See, that's another thing that irks the shit out of me, is when people beat me to a CL deal and their only fuckin' intention is to trade/resell the damn games. It's just annoying. I guess I'm the only person who buys deals from CL to actually keep and use/play?

Now, clearance games from Kmart and other stores, those are a different story altogether.

It was a slim PS2 with component cables, a/v cables, memory card, and 11 disc only games. We traded in six games. I'll run them by you next time. ;)

Thanks for the consideration, but I don't like disc only games either. That's probably one reason why I lose out on so many CL deals, is because either A) the people advertising them make vague ads for them and B) won't describe the conditions more completely when I ask. I mean, how hard is it to type up a description into a return email?

I'm VERY nitpicky when it comes to stuff I buy used, so the disc only games would've been a no buy for me. ;)

I'm the same. The most I can handle is a little bit of damage to the case since most can get replaced easily but if there's anything wrong with the manual, box art, case, or disc then no deal
Hardcore.
Oh so hardcore cool guy. I is so hardcore because I actually care about my possesions. Go back to whining about your incomplete games and their crappy TIV.
Quite defensive there, hardcore.
And that's why the ignore user option was made.Congrats, you're the first jackass I block. *applause* Here's your cake

I have an EB and a GS. The EB does not impose a penalty on disc only games, and as a result most of their used stock is disc only. The GS either penalizes or does not accept disc only games, and virtually all of their used stock is complete. Guess where I shop?

Nice, I would love to have a GS like that near me

I'm not so much hardcore, as I just care about the condition of what I buy. Most things that I buy used that're disc based are in like new/mint condition or I won't buy them.

This is why I get so irked about Gamestop selling incomplete stuff for the same price as complete games. But, that would make the clerks jobs just that much more of a hassle to keep and they have enough crap to remember to pester customers about now to be bothered trying to remember to ask them if they want complete or disc only games.
Hey buddy, keep the flaming down. You're acting like a 12 year old in a temper tantrum. You know something great that's already out that promotes not screwing over your games? The fact that you won't get a refurb charge and the fact that whoever is buying it will enjoy having it complete
:hot:

I just get fed up with the obvious two sides and why people keep on bitching about it...

People will lose the case, trade it in, and people out there going bonkers for gamestop selling it. "I like the manual and case" & "I want my games sealed, they gut it" tirade...

Obviously Gamestop does it and keeps doing it because they can and it works, same with disc only. There isn't enough of us do-gooders, that would "enjoy having it complete", to counter the waves and waves of disc only games.

(honestly besides stealing the games, I can't see why a responsible person would bother to throw them away. and find it utterly stupid to boot.)

I see these groups...

Collectors/hoarders/extreme traders: Sealed or nothing goes.. Me: "wtf are you doing in GS then... go buy at any other retailer... "

Gamer Gamers: Play play play, trade for more play. "GS is perfect, disc only means cheap and I can see how GS is the greatest thing next to Gamefly."

Casuals: Games to be played but like it to be at least complete. "GS fits somewhat... and it would be nice to have a defined category for complete or not" (I would fit here...)

Just fed up I suppose with the banter of many thinking whatever they are typing is truly going to make a difference....

it's not... and all I'm seeing is a bunch of whining for whiners sake.

Gladly hear about deals than someone going postal because of someones refurb fees.

Until I hear some of you picketing and doing protests and setting up shops right next door to compete.... .... well .... keep on whining because some of us will agree, some of us will not, some of us will be sick and tired of it, some of us will say it should change, but ALL of us that would possibly care to put the letters together to read the words they are saying, can't change it here.
You're not selling these to millions of potential customers, displaying it publically that you do these reproductions for profit.
And who says that GS would... I'm sure that they would but certainly a process can change, if gaming companies would free up the artwork to allow this to happen. Don't other retailers get blanks? or such? It costs the companies to send out empty boxes or such? so why not get them to be able to print them out. Burden off of the gaming company. I certainly don't see a solution coming from you.

I was saddened that Altus stopped with the manuals that they may have had, trying to complete older games. I made do and had to resort to buying.
wut
I don't do games like some around... flipping to me or even get renting games are just beyond my playstyle.

I'm mostly an RPG whore and getting any game done is a bit of a stretch so I'm apt to collecting more and playing later.

Backlog is hellish long.

I don't play the hell out of games and sell them... I'm more oft to keep them around and maybe my kids will enjoy whenever they decide to spawn.

A month ago I needed a case for ps3 game I had and I asked if gamestop would sell me one of their extras or just hook me up and they said no. Since then on a few occasions I have traded in games, which I had the case and the instructions for, and just traded them disc only. They give you crap for trade in value most of the time, and after all they don't give you any extra for trading in the case, might as well take advantage of them.
