They don't need to lose the ability to take trade-ins. Just to have the balls to refuse a poor quality copy and say "Tough shit." to the any customer that wants to argue about it. After they adopt that mentality, it's just a matter of requiring the packaging and manual. Then there's three requirements to be able to trade your game in, and as a bonus Gamestop would gain some sorely needed consumer confidence.
True, but in order for that to happen, it would require all the soccer moms and their bratty kids to stop shopping there and giving them so much of that disposable income that GS Corp loves.
The trade off is unequalled though, since the soccer moms and their kids will still spend good money on top of the crap trade values they get for those shit condition games they trade, so they'd rather put up with the bad condition games than risk losing their best customer stream.
Now, if more hardcore gamers actually went there and bitched about the shit condition and the company actually gave a shit, we might see some action in the direction of getting better condition stuff.
Although, I will say that if you check the condition of the games you're buying from them, there ARE good and sometimes MINT condition games to be found. You just have to LOOK.
On the other hand, FYE is almost always great for perfect/near perfect games, which is why I go to their stores more often.
