Man I just got my games in the mail today from gamestop.com I did that special deal where If you buy a pre-owned game worth 29.99 and up you get a free pre-owned game worth 29.99 and below. Now I've never ordered from them before. All my games from my local store have been in good condition before and thought this would work out... HELL NO! They sent me 2 non working discs. Ive been wanting SSBM for a while and decided this was the chance to get it with the zelda collectors bonus disc. First thing I do is pop in SSBM, "cannot read disc" or something along those lines. Wow how dumb is this? Then I look at the disc and find a whole bunch of fucking sh*t on the front and back. The game had been treated like crap. Next I pop in the zelda disc. Seems to be working fine loads all the 4 games. Nope! I try to play the wind waker demo and movie. DOES NOT WORK. It can't read half way through the movie and it doesn't even work on the demo. Now if I tried to play one of the game like zelda II I'd be afraid that it would suddenly not read anymore. So now I called them and I asked them if the new games would be in better condition, they said "Yes they will be". Now, do they do this to everyone, or am I just unlucky. Cause these discs looked like fuck who knows what and they didn't even work... Has this happend to anyone before when they've ordered from gamestop.com?

I've heard of this happening with their pre-played games before, apparently they are never in very good condition.

Gamestop makes it their goal to accept every beat up piece of shit they can. I've mentioned this a hundred times over, but y old manager actually accepted games that a cat had pissed all over and resold them. That's the Gamestop quality pledge right there.

HA!

That's weird cuz I bought Viewtiful Joe Pre-owned from GameStop.com about 3 weeks ago and the game lloked like it was brand new. I've bought pre-owned games before and they all have SOME sort of wear. But now I'm starting to think that it was a fluke, so I guess I won't buy pre-owned from them anymore.
Well look at it this way, if you have a beat-up game you wanna get rid of, go to gamestop
Not true. I had (and still have) a copy of the original PS1 Need For Speed that I wanted to trade in. The bottom was very scratched (I had gotten the game used when I bought it), but it was still playable. I even checked the day before I traded in the game to still see if it still worked, and it did with no problems. They would only take the game if I were to pay to have it re-surfaced. So, despite the fact that the game still worked, they wouldn't take it because of the scratches.

Perhaps there's a degree to how badly scratched a game can be to be untradeable, but if the game works, why not take it?

I refuse to buy pre-owned at any price. Ever. I've had enough patience to find what I've wanted new for just as cheap (if not cheaper) than most pre-owned prices.

Same here. I have bought maybe 5 in my whole life.

I've never had a problem from either Gamestop or EBGames. Even their preowned product like Xbox Link Cables have worked for me.

Maybe I'm just lucky.

I've gotten Pre-owned games in immaculate condition. With registration cards and everything. But that's just at B&M stores, you have to ask to look at the game. EB & Gamestop want to sell you the item, they shouldn't mind showing you what you want to buy.

that sucks man, i have only ordered 1 pre-played game form gamestop and thankfully it was in good condition. but i guess thats the chance u take when order pre-played games over the net.

I never had bought pre-owned games online. Only from my local B&M, where I know what I am getting before I pay for it. Even afterwards I can always return it right away and get one that works.

I purchased from Gamestop.com involving the same deal, getting Star Wars Jedi Knight and Star Wars Jedi Knight II for XBox. Both games arrived with boxes, instructions, and as smooth as a baby's behind on the bottom.

I'm sure they accept a lot of games that probably need a good buffing as does EB. But from both stores I can say that if my experience wasn't satisfactory (has only occured a few times in the past few years), they've always gone the extra mile to make it right.

Pre-owned is always a risk, but if nothing else can always turn it into trade-bait.

This has happened to me before, but they are very good about correcting it. While I feel they shouldn't send out non-working discs (your SSBM), the Zelda one might have been too hard to catch since it loads properly. Anyway, I have found that they happily replace the games, which while it is a hassle is a lot better than other places will do for you.

Preowned games are a rip-off at Gamstop they are 5 dollars cheaper then a new one....so fork those 5 bills over and get the new one, unless they dont make that game anymore then ur screwed lol

Ditto, and I certainly would never buy them if I can't inspect them first.

I buy almost only used, but in-store. I check out the disc first. I would be very wary of ordering a used game from any company online. I bought a used Dreamcast (that $15 + free s&h deal), and was pleased to see that while it had some black marks on it, it played fine, and the controller doesn't stick or anything.

I sent it back out with fed-ex today. they were actually very polite about it. Ive bought from my local store and they are always in good condition, maybe because I get to see the disc in person..

Well sometimes buying used is fine EX: I came in to buy James Bond: Everything or Nothing for Xbox maybe the day or two after it came out (perhaps same-day), and manager told me he had a pre-owned copy for $45 and I was like, nah Ill get a new for $50, then he showed me the PO'd and damn thing was in PERFECT Condition with everything. I knew the manager and he told me the dumbass kid didnt like the game sold it back for like $20-$30 or so, and so instead of restocking it they just had it behind counter. I also was able to use the 10% of Pre-owned card on the game so I got it for $40.50 before tax, which I thouth was cool.

Game worked great, but I messed up and didnt claim a $23 + $6.90 Trade-in deal they had so I got screwed in the end.

Game is now in my trunk and only worth $12 now :( Sad how fast these games devalue.

I rarely buy used games, and I only buy them if new ones cant be found or cost a lot more then the used versions. All used games I got from my local Gamestop have worked fine.

I'll buy used, but so far only from ebgames as they gaurantee you'll get the case and instructions with the disc. So far everything has been in good to mint condition. Worst was one with a sticker on the disc plus a bit of marker so something (on the top) Probably bought 10 or so Xbox games- haven't bought any since they ditched free shipping though... and they have all included the case and manual, as promised.

It would be a real pain in the ass if one didn't work, but at least they would replace it.

To me it's worth saving 30% or more as long as the game is playable. I'm okay with a worn but still usable manual or insert.

I've also bought 6 used games from eBay so far. All pretty much as described, although one was a bit more scratched than what I would classify as excellent condition. (It works so I'm not complaining too much I guess.)

ive probably bought less than 10 used games out of my over 500 game collection...they were all from blockbuster and with that being said, they were obviously used and mis-used by many (as a rental)....and they all surprisingly look and work perfectly....

I've had a recent horror story from GS as well.

I ordered from the b1g1 deal a while ago, not the most recent one. One of the games had deep gouges on the top of the disc (like wolverine had attacked it), and the 2nd one was caked in deodorant. I kept the 2nd one. I sent back the first one, got another one back in good shape, but no box. Now I have to find a damn box for Suikoden III, and I know I'll never find one... I might as well buy it again. I'm glad I kept the manual though.

And thats on top of them overcharging my credit card initially, as if the promotion were not in effect. Though they fixed that right after I called them. I bet they wouldn't have done shit if I never noticed the overcharge.

fucking bastards. BTW, anyone got a Suikoden III box?

What if you can't get them new anymore? I mean they'll let you look at them inside of a Gamestop B&M. Used buying is great, as long as the game works.

I know... Well, with the first game I was only missing the manual and I had the box. For the 2nd game I have the manual but no box. Always something... I'll never order from GS again until they start guaranteeing box and manual with current generation games.

I love to buy used games but only from walk in's. I never trust used games online because you got to remember that you're ordering from a site that basically has a huge warehouse or it's a small indy store that couldn't sell it in their store in the first place. When a GayStop or EB gets trade ins that are really scratched up (which they should accept anyway) they sent it to their warehouse to get it resurfaced. I highly doubt they test them before they send them back out though.

well,at the one i work at,we deducte the fee to have the game refurbished and i myself let people see the games condition before they buy it. i used to buy pre-owned games and accessories and they always worked for me,so i guess i was just lucky.

we also let people test them at the store if we have the console hooked up.

i bought soul calibur II for gamecube.. game had one surface scratch but would not play.. called gamestop.. they overnighted me another copy for FREE and let me keep both copies of the game! great customer service on their part.. if anyones interested in a Soul Calibur 2 game for about 5 bucks that could easily be game doctored.. let me know..
Yeah some retard drew ontop of the SSBM disc I got LOL.. Plus it had a whole bunch of crap on the front..
It saddens me to see how some people treat their games. How can someone draw on it for gods sake? Probably some little kid did it. This is exactly why I don't want to have children.

I buy preowned alot, but if I can find it new somewhere in the area for 5 bucks more, I get it new. Unless the preowned game is in very good condition, I don't buy it. Ask to see the game before you pay for it. Always know what your buying before you buy for it.

This is exactly why I don't want to have children.
My lil sister was given a gameboy advance and 3-4 games for her birthday last year, and she "lost" her gameboy (put it into an old backpack and forgot about it) and she can't find the games. So my mom buys her a new SP, along with a few GB games from the CC sale, and already her SP is scratched up, and can only find one or 2 of the games.

Out of all the games I have gotten, I have lost one gameboy game, and had two stolen.

They passed off a piece of crap to me at my local gamestop once, I had picked up a preowned copy of half life during a buy 2 get one free sale... get home before looking at it... I didnt expect that a store would sell such crap especially in all my previous experiences in trading in disc products to stores, they would refuse it over the slightest scuffs... but this game was horrid... took it back the next day, but I had not remembered where I put my receipt... and the fuckers didnt exchange it for me, even though it was the same 2 asshats that were working there the day before...

Luckily I was able to get the disc resurfaced somewhere else for a buck, and it worked fine after that

It just shocked me they could let such excrement be sold to the public...
