Hi, all first post Im wondering about gamestop's return policy yesterday i bought DDRU2 for the Xbox 360 and I found it to be a bore and a waste of time.

Anyway, what is their return policy? Will i be able to return it if i have a recipt or will they not accept it. Will i get cash or store credit (it doesn't really matter either way ill shop here anyway)

So do u guys know anything about it?

I'm pretty sure they won't take it, not to be mean, but it's your fault that you bought it, so you could, A) Trade it in. B) Sell it Online.
Yea and, if you bought it used they will.

Unless they've changed recently:
new items, return w/i 30 days, unopened or exchange defective only (note: "sucks" != defective)
used items, return or exchange w/i 7 days
People bitch about EB/GS, and while they're not the greatest, I really like the used return policy.

People bitch about EB/GS, and while they're not the greatest, I really like the used return policy.[/quote]I hate their return policy for the following reasons
1) They only give you a week to return used
2) They ask you for all your personal information
3) They keep track of your personal information

Is there any place else you can return opened games for a different title? Not 'trade in' for a loss, but return for the exact amount you paid? A week to return the item is a week longer than Best Buy, Circuit City, Walmart, Target, Amazon gives you to return an opened item. (Of course there might be some local mom 'n' pop place that has to be more generous with their policies to keep alive, but those places are probably accessible to less than 10% of the gaming population.)
Virtually every retailer takes your information when returning stuff (if they don't have it already, when you paid by credit card, check, or used a Frequent Shopper card). Game stores have to be especially diligent about tracking due to the ease of trading in stolen items.
Unless you're cash only--always--and don't use a frequent shopper card, don't worry, you're already tracked.
Yours reasons for hating EB/GS, in one case, it's a benefit, and the other two cases, apply to virtually every retailer other than the unshaven guy at the flea market.

Hence the benefit to buying used from EB/GS. I save 5-10 bucks plus 10%, I confirm the condition/completeness of the item, *and* I get seven days to decide if I want to keep the game.

2 and 3 are regular practices in retail to avoid abusal of return policies. Though 3 could probably use to be shortened to "keep", not "keep track of".

Target and Sears are two other examples of retailers that do this when receipts are not present for a return. There are likely dozens more.

When I was at one store the other day looking for wavebirds, I over heard an employee tell the customer this:

"It's better to get a USED game because 1, it's a lot cheaper and 2 you get 30 days to return it vs. a new game which is more expensive and you only have 7 days to return it unopened."

I was soooooo tempted to turn around and say "BULLSHIT!!!"

Wow. Though (as I said before) I think there are benefits to buying used, those two statements are totally flipflopped (and in most cases it's not a "lot" cheaper.) Then again, it's relative--five bucks off a 59.99 new game is 8%, 5 bucks off a 19.99 new game is 25%.

Last time I returned something sans receipt at Walmart, they recorded my info as well. The time before, they didn't, but that was during the post-Christmas return rush, and the thing was only like 8 bucks.

To be a real bad person, you could return it opened at Walmart w/o a receipt. They record how many times you can do it in a given year (I believe 3). If they don't have it in stock, you can choose something else, to my experiences. If they do, you get the new unopened one and go to another nearby store. It's kind of a cheat way, if you can live with the guilt...

I hate GS as much as the next guy but what do you expect? If they give you too long and don't track returns, people will just buy games, play them, and then return them. They're a business after and all they want to make a profit.

The 7 day return period on used games is probably one of the (very) few good things about GS- if in case you don't like the game, you at least have a chance to return/exchange it.

I know WM may take things without a receipt, but do they actually take opened media items? I thought that was pretty much a standard rule for any retailer.

It all depends who you know at GS/EB. If you are a regular good customer they will make exceptions if you don't abuse it. Before GS bought out EB, GS had a program called "VIP Customer". Which meant you could return any game new or used. The store manager determined if you were considered a VIP customer and they told you. The majority of the customers are not aware of that.

Things may have changed after the merger so the VIP program may no longer exist. I do ave frends who work at GS and they allow me to return new or used games within 30 days. Now I don't abuse the system so I usually return a game that totally sucks.

When MLB2K8 and MLB 08 released I was torn as to which one to get since I already had MLB 07. My friend/manager sold me a copy of MLB 2K8 (Sealed). When I played it I said no way it's going back. He just took back the game and gave me a sealed copy of MLB 08, no questions.
