I went to my local Ebgames store last night to preorder something and I discovered that they had all their USED DS games as cart-only in the GBA case with the GBA games. This is a store that previously had many used DS games on the shelves with cases. I posted a rumor about this another time and I just wanted to confirm that it is true. Please note this is representative of one store only and ymmv! If I see this happening in more stores I will update the OP.

Ok went to another store today, they had both loose carts and games with cases, guess it depends on how they get traded in.

My Gamestop typically puts them in a DS case with white cover art, and then handwrite the title with a black sharpie.

Every store I have been to recently (basically all of them within 50 miles in any direction) keep their games in tact. I even saw a few that kept the original GBA boxes when the games were traded in. I found a complete and mint GBA Zelda Classic about a year ago at one of them.

I dont think stores will get rid of cases. Even if they dont have room, they'll still put it on the shelf or somewhere. I remember working at EB/GS and the store had boxes and boxes of used games. There was no room to fit all of it so we just put it in front of other GBA games. What they could of done was transfer those games to a store that sells alot if they dont sell them as often.

Or what they tend to do which makes it hard to browse is turn the boxes in and line them up with the spine facing out instead of having all the front covers showing..

LoL makes it real fun to find them mixed in with all there no-manual games and those make shift covers with the sharpies ( LoL only thought the real ghetto stores did that one)

Depends on shelf space around here, as well as a bit of presentation. If 90% of the games are in generic boxes and they have room in the GB/GBA case they're just going to toss the carts in there instead to save room. Otherwise, unless the store is lacking for space, they just lay them out on the shelf however the DM, store layout, or whim of the workers see fit.

around here carts go on their own, whether they get traded in with a case or not. Some do save teh books if they are traded with them.

Yeah, the store that had the cases for the used games had considerably more space allocated to the DS games section than did the first store that gutted all the games. So it would make sense if it was based on how much space each store had allocated for DS games, heck that second store even had a few used GBA games with boxes.
