4/26 Update

I have been informed that final clearance will begin 5/3. I should have information concerning titles and prices around 4/30. Stay tuned.

4/5 Update

Sale is live!

:wii: Wii
:ps2: PS2

* Note: Metal Gear Solid: The Essential Collection is not part of this sale. It was apparently a mistake, one that has not been fixed. It's still listed on the site, but no discount has been applied to it.

4/4 Update

Thanks to (radio edit) for supplying us with the lists and prices. He also confirmed that the free wired 360 guitar promotion IS still valid with the purchase of Guitar Hero Aerosmith!

The lists were previously posted on GameStop.com at the following address. More than likely, when the sale does go live, this is where we will find the pricing.

http://www.gamestop.com/gs/landing/gamedays09/

And here is a scan of the 10% off coupon that was in this month's Game Informer. Thanks to xycury! Coupon is in the spoiler.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Q: Is this sale for new or used games?
A: New games only. In the past, there have been B2G1 sales on used items associated with Game Days, so keep an eye out for that.

Q: Will all of the games be "gutted" or opened?
A: YMMV. Some stores I have been to basically open everything up and dump it into the bins. Others will only open a few copies and leave the rest behind the counter. If you want a sealed copy, make sure to ask.

Q: Is this in-store or online?
A: Both.

Q: Will the store accept a print-out of the 10% off coupon?
A: YMMV.

Q: Does the coupon work for one item or the whole purchase?
A: It works on all Game Days items bought in a purchase.

Q: Is there going to be a B2G1 on used games and accessories?
A: As previously mentioned, there could possibly be one later, but as of now, nope. There is only a B2G1 on used PS2 games when you buy a new PS2 system.

worker today told me probally that Phantasy star psp will only get 10 to 20% off... A new game will never be marked down 50% this soon

so say its 20% off..

40 bucks - 8 buck game day sale = 32 - 3 buck edge discount = 29 bucks - 10 % off coupon

26.00 For phantasy star for the psp... Still over priced

now 50 % off

20 - 10 % edge 18 bucks - 10% coupon = 17.40 Still a little overpriced

YOU don't see a point in buying one but others do.

And there has to be DSiWare on day 1. If not, then we'll just have to wait one day (monday) when they update WiiWare/VC/VC Arcade/DSiWare with more content.

the DS is my favorite system and I use it a lot. The DSi is a step in the right direction. So I see a point in buying one.

but everyone has their own opinion.

Ya, and I have my opinion and I'll refrain from stating it for the sake of the thread. If you're so sure about your decisions, nothing else anyone says should sway you or anger you. And the munchkins are there to dance together, not to try and dance alone and mock the other munchkins.

I don't get why 2 people on CAG can't discuss their disagreement without someone freaking out and worrying about a flame war!

I actually like hearing these people say their opinion, and even argue from time to time. I get some honest info, rather than the candy-coated schlop you hear from [bribed] critics!

Personally, I'm on the fence with the DSi. :bouncy: It's my fave handheld, but I already have 2 DS's and teh wife isn't too keen on a #3!

EDIT: Hey J7! Contra 3 KICKS @$$!!! My fave Contra in the series... (for better or worse!)

People don't like it within deal threads, but ya I enjoy hearing what people have to say as well. I wouldn't mind discussing the pros/cons of DSi in its own thread though. Contra 3 is still my fav too. PM sent.
Seriously, of all things to be mad at GS about, I can't blame them for not wanting to put sealed games out in bins. You're just asking for trouble as a store if you do that.
The funny thing is, the one store where I bought most of my Game Days items last year did exactly that - put sealed games in the bins. A month later they were still sealed in the bins. Apparently theft wasn't a problem, at least at that store.

But seriously, all GS has to do is gut one copy of each game and put them on a display or in a bin. Then when one is brought up to be purchased, give the customer a sealed one, and put the display back in the bargain bin. Simple. Efficient. Everyone is happy.
If i buy val chronicles the day before (brand new sealed) and keep it sealed can I go back and get the price readjusted? Or can I return/rebuy you guys think?
It looks like there will be plenty of copies available, so the main issue is how to get a sealed copy instead of a gutted one...

If you buy beforehand in order to ensure yourself of a sealed copy, technically how can Gamestop refuse to price adjust the item or at least resell the same sealed item again at the reduced price?? There is a 30 day return policy for sealed items. By the time you return it to rebuy at the lower price, all the other copies would likely have been gutted anyways (assuming that they have directed stores to gut every single copy). Is that store going to demand that you return your sealed copy and buy one of the gutted ones in order to get the sales price (and then proceed to gut the sealed copy you have returned)?? That sounds really ridiculous to me if that's the case...

If you want sealed games then buy them first thing Sat night a 9:00 PM when the sale starts (and is set up) , or talk to the management team on Sat and simply ask. There is absolutely no manager out their that is going to say OMG NO, We have to open it first. This sale is about making $$$$ on games you may not normally buy at full price.
Exact Pricing is being received today
So does that mean you might be able to get a list of pricing?

Maybe it just has to do with deleted posts? I remember a mod mentioning that even when posts are deleted by the user, they're just hidden, not actually gone from the system... so maybe that's where that extra page comes in?
what is big deal about game getting gutted.
You end up paying full price for a used game. Employees are able to check-out gutted games for the night to play. There have been several times I've gone into GS with the intent of buying a game, only to take my money elsewhere when they try to sell me a gutted game.
what is big deal about game getting gutted.
There are two types of arguments against gutted games:

- Quality Assurance: There's a chance the brand new game you're paying for isn't exactly in brand new condition (might have scratches, existing save file, etc.).
- Principle: You're paying for a brand new game and receiving something that isn't brand new.

Unless you care about one or the other, gutted games are fine. I've been sold a few gutted games before, and I always just check to make sure the disc isn't scratched or anything. Otherwise it's fine. I couldn't give a shit about the principle of the matter.

I don't believe their "used", but they could have been scratched if an employee dropped the game before they put it into a paper sleeve. Also, save files? Clarify.

I don't think its a big deal either, and I understand the reasoning for it. I don't think they're ever going to buy the bulky plastic containers that Best Buy uses for the small amount of gutted games they have.

Save files could exist on a "new" GBA or DS game if they've been checked out by an employee. I avoid gutted games simply because there's usually an equally easy way to get a sealed copy by visiting Amazon or another nearby store.

The only rational reason to not want gutted games, is if you plan on

a) returning game to another store (the walmart flip anyone !!)
b) giving game as a gift

Beyond that you can easily look at the disk and ask for another if the disc doesn't meet your requirements. I would watch more for missing movie cash, xbox live cards, etc, but getting the game sealed just seems more like a psychological need than rational requirement to me.
Also, save files? Clarify.
If the employees check out a gutted DS game, their save files could still be there when you buy the game, if they don't delete them.

this thread has turned into all kinds of win, "list sucks", "games gutted"..... it's like gamestop has a gun to all of cag.... it's simple, don't shop there if you can't deal with gutted games.... if you don't like the list of games on sale, don't go to the sale... my god.

Dude, I was thinking that everytime I read this thread.

i like to be the first person to open my sealed games, thank you very much.
i buy new and i expect brand new, untouched. there is no distinguishable difference between a gutted copy and a gently used one. why must i pay full price for a gutted copy when i can find the exact same condition one on ebay for less? or even in gamestop or locally.

say what you will, if you care or not. but gutted is not new.

FYI, I do not presently own a DS so why wouldn't I buy the latest and greatest. Seems well worth the extra $40 bucks to me. Oh, well...my money, my choice.

The DSi decision is definitely a tough one. The real important fact is that it will only get more expensive to buy in the next 18 months. GS and GC are offering very reasonable trade in's during the first couple of weeks for DS Lites. 70$ from GS and 90$ from GC. The GC trade in is very high, so effectively dropping the out of pocket to 80$ for the new DSi.

The DSi WILL be to goto DS in about 12months time as content is being created that only works on the DSi, it does after all have a processor, twice as fast as the DSLite, but the loss of GBA port (especially for the poketraders amongst us), will be a major blow, as no trading red/green/etc pokemon to the new games. Guitar Hero will also not work, so you may as well trade that one in.

GS I'm sure will be receiving huge #'s of GBA trade in's in the next 60 days or so, so sell early to get your highest trade in.

Hello Everyone,
I work at a GS/EB...We gut games to display them on our store shelves...If we didn't gut them people would steal the games. If we didn't display the games...Most customers wouldn't ask, plus this allows the customer not to be bothered by Game Adviser every second.

Yes, we get to take New or Used games home to play...Just the other day I borrowed Wanted: WoF. The rules are simple, there must be multiple copies (i.e. more than one) and it can be New or Used...Used first, unless it was just released. If I scratch it I buy it! We are not allowed to borrow PSP (games or Movies), DS, or GBA tittles.

By borrowing a game, it allows us to become more familar with the game. This allows me to talk with our customer who ask is this a good game or the lenght of play through. If you work in retail, you are not rich and we get nothing for free...We work for a corporation that is selling & buying games.

Thanks,

As an ex gamestop employee, I can say that we took a lot of the gutted games home to play so you never know if its been used before. This means the employees might be smokers or own kids/pets and the case/CD/manual keeps that smell and perhaps some dirt too.

My HUGE gripe with the gutted ones is that the case is usually mashed up from people picking it up or theres dust all over the cover from being on the shelf. Sometimes there might not even be a manual. Like the posters before me though, some people just want NEW to mean new.

*EDIT: ack sorry about the rant, didnt realize so many were talking about gutting.... dont hate me!

I'd get one if it werent for the fact that my M3DS Real card wont work with the DSi.

I used to work for Gamestop. Theft is an issue, like you said, so gutting one copy (or two if it's a popular title) of the game is acceptable. Inventory is showing on the shelves and not all the new games are compromised.

There's absolutely no need to gut all copies of a game. If you're selling the gutted game, you should let the customer know that they're getting the gutted game and let them know the policy involved.

Most Gamestops in my area don't gut all the games, so I don't run into this issue much. I don't have a huge issue with gutted games, but I'd only purposely buy a gutted game if I were getting it on sale or couldn't find the game elsewhere.

I traded in my daughter's well used and abused DS lite for a $70 ($50 after refurb fee because of the damage) DSi credit. Well worth it since I got her the DS lite when she was 6 and wasn't the greatest at taking care of things. I also traded in my DS and DS lite for $50 and $65 each for credit for my DSi.

After some other trade-in's and her giving me $45 she saved, I'm paying $70 for her DSi and and $20 for mine.

I'll throw my 2 cents in on the whole gutted game thing. I have no problem with gutted games they serve a valuable purpose for Gamestop. Unless the game is rare I refuse to buy them though. If I'm paying full price I want a new, unopened item. Lowering the price will kill their margin, multiple that by each game opened and by each store and you're looking at a huge loss of money. So I understand why Gamestop won't lower the price even though it's been opened and potentially played. So I'll just take my business elsewhere when they offer me a gutted game.

I can recognize that it's important for the employees to be familiar with the games, but that concept seems outdated with demos so easily available to anyone with an internet connection. Granted not all games have demos released, but you sited Wanted, which does have a demo.

I can not grasp why the largest video game specialty chain does not release scans of the box for employees to put in the empty game cases that go on the shelves, rather than gutting games. It may be a cost cutting measure, but as I've said before, their current approach has cost them several of my purchases in the process.
