Gamestop Gift Card

CAGiversary!
Not sure where to post this so I'll just put it here. Forgive me if this is in the wrong board.

I have this $50 GameStop gift card that I really don't want, because GameStop's games are ridiculously overpriced and I could get two or three games from Glyde for the price of one from GameStop. My question is if I were to place a $50 preorder on something like... Assassin's Creed Brotherhood C.E. for the Xbox 360 and then cancel it, would I be able to get cash back? Yes, I know cancelling a preorder hurts the Game Advisor you cancel on (I used to work at GameStop), but if you cancel on the same person you placed the preorder on, they break even. I just need to know whether I can get cash back or not.

I don't think you can do that and get cash back. I was told that you receive a refund in whatever form you payed in.

I'd gladly take it off your hands though!!!

Actually, I did a pre-order for Super Mario Galaxy 2 online where I paid entirely in gs credit and once I received it in the mail returned it to GS and they allowed me to get cash. I'm not sure if this was just luck or what though.

Most likely luck, but it might be something with online being different than B&M.

I don't remember the POS keeping track of what form of payment a preorder was placed using. I'd really like to get some games with the money, I just don't want to pay a ridiculous amount for them. I guess I'll just have to loiter around GS and ask people if they'll trade for cash...

Actually if you do $5 pre-orders on 10 games and stagger them so you're not taking all of the credit back in one shot you might be able to exploit a bit of a glitch I've encountered the last 2-4 times I've cancelled out of pre-orders that I paid $5 in credit for.

Apparently(and this may be different from district to district)if you place the base $5 pre-order deposit on a game in credit, you can receive it back in CASH when you cancel.

Mind you it may be a time consuming process, but it's about the ONLY way I've seen to get cash back instead of credit.

I don't know if this is true or not, but I've heard some gamestops say that they'll give you the option of 80% cash back instead of store credit. You could also try ebay to get around 90%--or you could just wait until they have a decent B2G1 free promo sale in store. Back when they had the guaranteed $25 trade-in value I was easily able to cash out my credit and get free games.
Or you could just use GiftCardRescue. Works for any card you don't want from any store. You can also buy discount cards from them.

Not sure exactly how much $ your card will be worth there.
That's a really cool site!! Thanks for posting this. It's almost worthy of a thread of it's own.

I sold my $100 Walmart gift card on eBay and sold it for $102. You'll likely find the same amount of luck considering people have built-up credit on Paypal to spend on the darn things. :p
