Gamestop Preorders to cash?

So normally I wouldn't this, but the Toys R Us deal is too good. I have Uncharted 2 and Brutal Legend both payed off fully at Gamestop. They have both had the majority of their value payed off with trade ins. I was wondering if I go in and cancel the preorders and ask for the money, will they give it to me? I know that technically if I paid cash for the games, I would certainly get it back, but does the system distinguish between credit and cash? This is not something I would do on a regular basis, but being able to buy BL, U2 and get Fallout 3 GOTY for free is too good to pass on if I am able. Anyone know if this works?
 
I'm pretty sure the system does notice that it is using credit for a pre-order versus cash. I could be wrong, but most of the times I pull stuff off of a pre-order when I had used credit they put it back in credit. I think they can give cash back but that would be YMMV, cause I had it happen once because it was only $5 and they just gave me the $5 bill.
 
I went in and tried it and he told me that I needed the original receipt of the preorder to get cash back, meaning no go because I traded in for credit. I was wondering if I bought a game and payed $5 on the total with my credit, if I returned the game later, wouldn't the receipt report the game as paid off with cash and therefor I would receive full cash back?

Most stores show split payment types on the reciept and do refunds accordingly... meaning you'd get the amount you paid in cash, in cash, and the credit as credit (unless the credit amount was negligible and teh cashier didn't want to deal with it.)

Can't say for sure though, since I never do trade-ins, so I never have credit.
 
I've gotten cash back after canceling a pre-order before, paid with credit. That was over a year ago though, so I wouldn't be surprised if they've changed since.
 
No. I don't think any store would allow to change credit -> cash. You'd be gaming their system. There is a reason they dock 50% on cash trade-ins and there is no loophole around it. If you paid for the preorders in credit, you'll have to accept credit back if you cancel them.

It's 20%, but you're right. This is why they won't let you get cash back.
 
about a year ago i bought something with split credit/cash. when i returned it they gave me the whole amount in cash, i asked about it and she said because there was cash on the purchase it gives it all back in cash. no idea if thats still the case or if it would work in a like way with preorders. why dont you go iin and see how it works out?
