Gamestop question.

CAGiversary!
I'm pretty sure this has been debated and discussed before, but why does Gamestop get away with giving you new games that are opened?

What is you never physically open it after they give it to you, isn't your ability to return that game for full money back basically already negated?

I don't understand how this practice is still done there.

I'm not trying to be a dick, but yes it has been discussed A LOT.

To sum it up

1. We all know they do it
2. They're not going to stop doing it.
3. If you don't like it don't buy new games there, I don't.

They do it because they want to have the actual case out on the floor and apparently the people that work there need something to play on their days off.

They only get away w/ it when people willingly hand over payment after watching said employee pull a disc from a sleeve crammed w/ other "new" copies and pop it in a already opened game case. I generally stop them when they pull the bloated sleeve from a drawer and ask for a shrink-wrapped/sealed copy.

You occasionally get a comment from said employee, but for the most part they don't care; they're just doing what their store manager has instructed them to do. I rarely shop at GS/EB, but when I do(mainly for desired promos) the employees are familiar enough w/ me to know I rarely want "opened NEW" games. In the end the customer is always right, you should remind them of that if they think otherwise.

I stopped buying from there too. I go to GameCrazy they are freakin amazing. The guy at my local store is super nice and they are always stocked on everything and their used items are actually in mint condition and they always sell really old games in mint condition that online stores would charge you over $100 for brand new. Like xbox original Star Wars: The Old Republic 1 & 2. $8.99 each brand new at the store where other places upped the price to $80-100. Gamecrazy, Amazon and bestbuy are the places to use.

1> stop asking the same damn question for the millionth time.

2> they will only sell you the gut if it is their last copy of that game. otherwise they give you sealed copies.

3> if you do happen to buy the gutted copy they have to place a clear plastic sticker over the case therefor making it "gamestop sealed" and you can return it for a complete refund as long as that seal is not broken and you have your reciept.

4> why do people keep pissing whining and crying about the same shit damn near every day and feel the need to make new threads about it?

Actually my gamestop had several new copies sealed. They had opened the game to put the case on display. He tried to sell me one of the opened ones and I demanded to have one sealed. So he went over to his case and took out a completely sealed one. Why they do this I don't know. So it is not every store that only do that if it's their last one.

they do place a new sticker on the side making it gamestop sealed for returns but it does not change the fact that your disc sometimes comes with their fingerprints on it or has been "touched" or "tampered" with before you. For me, part of buying a new game is opening it out of that terrible plastic. I have a love/hate relationship with that plastic.

If you know gamestop does this, and if that's what they offer you and you don't want it, refuse it ask for a new one and if they don't have any new ones go elsewhere and never go back its simple.

People need to vent and I understand that some people don't go through this forum and read every single old post. Some people are fairly new here and probably don't know how much this issue has been discussed. So if you are terribly annoyed with this topic just don't respond or post here in the thread. It doesn't have to become a rude/hostile thread.

I went to buy Wild Arms 5 from my local GS and ended up getting the last copy. The game had been out for a while so the box was very beat up. The disk even had a bunch of scratches on it. The clerk tried selling it to me for the "new" price, I think it was $29.99. After some complaining he knocked off $5. Normally I wouldn't accept this but I couldn't find the game any where else.

People really seem to get upset when they see these topics pop up. Who cares, just let people vent.

Oh no, not this again :(
Don't buy gutted games, when you do, you screw yourself any everyone else.

Ask for a sealed copy and/or walk out.

If everyone does this, they'll stop.

Same here. Worse still, as others have also pointed out, they'll sometimes gut every copy in the store.

I still shop there on rare occasions. "Do you have a copy of ____ sealed?" If the answer is no, I say 'no thanks' and leave.

Because enough Suzy Soccer Moms and Joe Footballs and the other usual Rapestop customer groups that are their core customers just don't care or notice with their 'hectic lifestyles' of being ignorant, self absorbed, pressed for time jagoffs.

And thus, since those groups give Rapestop the lions share of business we consumers who actually care about condition and completeness of our games are SO fuckin' L.

I'm going to have to agree with ktims on some of those points. My GS has only sold me sealed for the 3 games I've actually bought new, one of which being Devil Summoner 2 where the game and plushie were still sealed inside the collector's box. I have to say that these topics are just getting old when every person who gets screwed by GS has to make a completely different thread about it.
