Gamestop = Shamstop?

Gamestop is such a sham - a used copy of Halo 2 goes for $45 but when I called in today they're only offering $18 on trade-in. They need to come somewhere in the middle on the pricing - sell the used for less or give a little more on trade-in but the disparity is usually atrocious. The only thing that might keep me going in there is my local store recently hired a hot young chick - cute and a gamer...wow. :)
 
Uh...dude, we all know gamestop sucks but there's nothing you can do. Just don't go there. But I need pics of this gamestop employee for some reason hot, girl, and gamer are generally never put in the same sentence.

Yeah, the one down here in a naples has a real cutie there. She wanted to work at EB, but, she said they can't hire 16 year olds. That kinda put the brakes on right there...

hey we have to make up the money we give out for all those copies of primal and kessen you crazy kids get at toys r us, if we sold every single used game that we take in it would be different, but we dont

It's true, the profit margin is a little disproportionate to what most people think it ought to be. That and people often think they're stuff is more valuable than it really is.

So do the one thing you can do as a discriminating consumer: don't shop there, regardless of how hot the staff is.

Don't work there, but I'm afraid I have to agree with him. Doesn't take a rocket science major to figure out, when you trade in at a retail store, you are desperate for credit.
Funny, they are great places when we can make a few bucks by transfering TRU stock.
Moral of the story? Expect to get screwed, be happy when you break even, feel lucky if you come out on top.

Personally, I expect to come out with a butt ache when I trade in at retail stores.

I wonder if there's a regional difference. The gamestops in the northeast have much nicer and more knowledgable staff than EB, plus it is much, much easier to find rare games at them. Only two eb's (out of over 20 in an hour radius of my house in MA) have I ever found decent stuff at, but I'm always finding rare stuff at gamestop. And they're cheaper. Though most of what I buy is ps1 stuff, so maybe it's different on more current systems.

GS never follows its return policies, they usually have people sign a logbook for returns and now they just take the games and give me the credit no probs.

If you don't like the price Gamestop gives you for it... just say "no".

Also, I think many of us overestimate what our games are worth, and forget that these places are trying to make money.

Yes, Halo 2 goes for $45 used... but let's say someone gets it as part of the B2G1 deal. Then, it's really only being sold for $30 or less.

What are you talking about?!!? They should give you $50 in credit for that game. Duh. I mean you payed $50 for the game, why should you get any less in credit for what you payed for it? Shame on these retailers for trying to make money off of you. :twisted: (This rant is made from 100% pure sarcasm. No dumb people were hurt in the making of this post.)

I worked at EB for a week.

I often see girls working at the EB/Gamestops around me for a couple weeks, as well. They probably figure it's going to be an easy, fun job... but, it actually really sucks, and there's many better options for minimum wage peon work. Unless you're very lucky, and the store you're working at is dead.

ALso with all those Primals,Turoks,etc....cluttering up the shelves the POX lists and the trade in specials will start becoming fewer and far between.

Look a couple years ago when EB and Gamestop stopped taking back new games.People abused it and business's have to adapt.

You create this issues yourselves.

One can buy Halo 2 for $27 now with Edge card (not including tax) as part of the B2G1 deal.

~$23 is about as high as it can go.

Same here, I have nothing but bad things to say about the local Gamestops around here. They're all big messes. I went with my friend to one and he asked an employee if they had Super Mario Advance 2 and the guy said 'for what system?'

The local EBs on the other hand are just awesome, cept for one in a ghetto area. They always hook me up with demos, posters, and whatever I can have for free.

and sometimes she'll buy games so that she can watch me play them (wind waker, ratchet and clank, jak)
