First post contains promo information & useful information and frequently asked questions. The second post is blank currently but is there for expansion or to revert back to the way things were. These trade-in values are really low!
While that may be true, if you combine the games with the right promotion they can work to your advantage. There are knowledgeable people in this thread that are normally willing to help.

Is there any way to look at what the previous values reported on a game?
You can search through this thread and previous ones to see what a game has been reported in the past. With the TIV Tracker you can sort by date and then go through the list of past updated values through that as well. Here are the previous GS TIV Threads: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13

Can I trade-in sealed games?
No. You might come across the rare GameStop that would let you do it, but they are going to open them anyway.


I don't want to get hassled about the values I post, how can I get the information out there?
If you do not feel comfortable or willing to put the values in the thread you have two options available. You can input them in the TIV tracker or you can send them to me via PM. Either way the database and these lists will be updated. Putting them into the TIV tracker does save me some time later on.

Do trade-ins have to have their original case, insert and manual?
No, however it will be YMMV on if they charge you a refurbish fee for them in that condition. Most GameStops wont charge a fee but there are some that charge for incomplete games.

Will they accept my game if it is really beat up?
YMMV. It really all depends upon the employee you get. Some will charge refurbish fees, some wont, some wont accept the game and others just take them without a second glance.

What are the refurb fees on games?
There appears to be set prices for set value ranges. We aren't 100% certain on the splits just yet. Here is what we have currently:
$0.25-$2 Value:
$0.75 Refurb Fee
$2.01-$4 Value: $1 Refurb Fee
$4.01-$7 Value: $2 Refurb Fee
$7.01-$10 Value: $3 Refurb Fee
$10.01 & Higher Value: $4 Refurb Fee
This information isn't guaranteed by any mean and we are still working on nailing it down.

What are the refurb fees on consoles?
They are listed in the hardware TIV section, highlight in red.


I have a Collector's/Limited/Special edition of a game, do I have to trade-in all of the extras?
No, but there are a handful of games that their variations have separate listings at GameStop: Madden 09 Anniversary Edition, Battlefield: Bad Company Gold Edition, and a few others.

Why didn't the percent bonus go for my accessory for a system that was included?
Unless stated otherwise, and they are rarely included, the bonuses never apply to accessories. Except the EDGE card of course.

I traded in a bunch of games for the "Trade X, get $X bonus" promo and it gave me the percentage bonus instead?
I can't give concretes on why this happens. GameStop computers are normally pretty good at giving you the better promo. In the case of a percentage bonus being run at the same time as a "Trade X, get $X" promo, things can get messy. The system appears to only give one promo on games per transaction so if you had a few games that you want to go to the percentage bonus and a stack for the "Trade X, Get $X" it will regularly apply the percentage to all of the games. Your best bet is to do all "Trade X, Get $X" games in one transaction on their own. The GameStop clerk may say that the system will figure it all out, tell them you want a separate transaction anyway. As always, check your receipt before you leave the store.


Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
YMMV. The official policy is no, but there are some GameStops that overlook that rule.

What all do I have to trade in for a console trade-in?
Xbox 360: Console Unit, power brick, A/V Cables, Controller (wired/wireless)
Wii: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cables, Wiimote, Nunchuck, Sensor Bar
Playstation 3: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller, USB Cable
Playstation 2: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller (Must be a DualShock2)
*Fat unit requires either back cover or network adapter*
GameCube: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller

Can I trade in a defective/broken console?
For the most part yes. If it powers on but doesn't play games, they will take the console as a refurb unit and put a refurb fee on the console. The refurb fee on the console will vary on the price of the console so those numbers will change. You are still required to trade in everything required listed in the question directly above. They will not, however, take RROD 360 consoles. There may be stores that still do it, but official policy is to not take them in.

What is the difference between PowerUp Rewards and PowerUp Rewards Pro?
The basic card is free and only allows you to acrew points when spending money. The Pro card costs $14.99 and is basically the same as the previous EDGE program.

How much does a PowerUp Rewards Pro subscription cost?
It costs $14.99 and is good for a year. It also comes with a 1-year subscription to Game Informer magazine.

What bonuses come with having an PowerUp Rewards Pro card?
You will get an extra 10% trade-in credit on the base value of the game, extra 10% off the purchase of pre-owned games and 10% off new strategy guides.

Does the Power Up Rewards Card give me a bonus on hardware trade-ins?
No. You will only get the bonus for games and accessories.

What if I want cash instead of credit, what do they deduct?
If you decide that you want cash instead of credit, they will take 20% off the base values and promos will not apply.

Does promo "....." have a minimum trade-in value?
If the promo has a minimum trade-in value requirement, it will be listed in the promo. If it isn't there, then there is no limit. However, as with all trades, they are subject to manager approval so the manager could have setup his own little rule-set requiring a minimum of whatever.

I used a Power Trade promo for a pre-order, can I cancel that pre-order and get the credit or move it to another game I want?
Yes on both accounts. However, if you do a bunch of the power trades and just straight drop the pre-order you could create some ill-will between yourself and the employees you cancel on. However, if you look at the wordings on promos, they can remove the bonus trade-in value if they decide to.

I just tried to use a promo that has a select list of games eligible, but they say my game isn't eligible anymore, what gives?
Basically they have the right to change the eligible games at any time. They tend to update these frequently so as to lock out any easy/cheap games. It's best to check the eligible list the day of your trade.

Can I stack two different trade-in promos?
No. The only thing that will stack with trade-ins is your EDGE card. Some will report success, but this requires a manual override and is very YMMV.

If I pay for an item using all credit on my card, do I have to pay sales tax?
This varies depending upon the state you live in.

My state doesn't charge sales tax on purchases made by credit, why is gamestop.com charging me tax?
It is just the way they have designed their system. The best theory we have seen is that since you are only inputting the number off of the back of the card, it isn't going to pick up the programming from the specially tagged EDGE cards. Some kind of programming that gets input from their system that wont show up when only inputting the number off the back of the card.

Debating on trading Mortal Kombat, Portal 2, Bad Company 2, and GTA IV for $99. Not bad really, but I need to finish MK and Portal before tuesday when I go pick up inFAMOUS 2. May keep MK, but its 40 trade in... so tempting. And I want the Metroid Prime Trilogy my store has!!! Also might pick up MotorStorm Apocalypse and No More Heroes on Wii.

Yeah, January of last year they discontinued it. The price preowned used to be $44.99 too. They raised it to $69.99 a couple months ago. It IS 3 games, and it has a steelbook case to make the price a little more doable. Hope its worth it because everyone seems to love these games.

Also, so lucky Trilogy came out on my birthday of 2009. It was a wicked 18th birthday gift, and clearly a good investment, but it really is sad how Gamestop is suffocating consumers with these ridiculous price gouges.
 
GameStop gets all the money too. Selling MPT used for 20 bucks more than its retail... somewhere Retro Studios is very upset.

Yea and my local Toysrus still has 3 out of 4 of them in stock and I could've bought them for buy 1 get the 2nd half off last week.
 
So with this 50% trade in deal are there any whisperings of a B2G1 sale online or in-store any time soon? With CAG16 + PUR 10% it's really never a bad time to buy online though.

Pretty sure last year they had two of those "gamer sale" type deals, one early spring one early summer.
 
Thanks to Gamestop I was able to profit off of LA Noire. Got it for $34 from Amazon ($20 credit plus $5 + 99 cents for screwing up on release day delivery) and sold it for $44.80 under this deal.

Then I got a bunch of old games that I missed out on for $11 to $15 each. Good deal.

:ps3: L.A. Noire $28 - $44.80 after 50% bonus + 10% PUR
:ps3: Fallout: New Vegas - $8 - $12.80 after 50% bonus + 10% PUR

Totaled $113 and I bought :ps3: Mortal Kombat Tournament Edition for $6 cash. Pretty good since I basically only paid $15 for L.A. Noire, $7.50 for New Vegas, $20 for MK, and have Infamous for free from the PSN Welcome Back.
 
I'm trading la noire tommorow. I'll be perfect for getting infamous 2. Then ill sell the infamous 2 gamestop exclusive dlc and the uncharted 3 beta code on craigslist. La noire was very good but its time to get the most out of it. This and portal 2 ( another great game ) are going to flood the used market within the next month or so

That's correct. And if the ps vita releases in the states this year ( I bet it will ) I also expect the ps3 version to be ported to the ps vita as well.

For $70 and will return my Killzone 3 that I bought used a few days ago for $47 back. With that money I will buy MotorStorm: Apocalypse used for $45, Uncharted 1 used for $22, Uncharted 2 GOTY new for $30, No More Heroes on Wii for $11, and preorder Uncharted 3 Collectors Edition. Then obviously pick up my inFAMOUS 2! :)

Yes, I do believe you can do that. You can also ask for your trade-ins to go right on another card instead of your PowerUp Rewards card. I've been doing that recently since I didn't want to have too large a balance on my main card.

Note that if you are in one of those sales tax states where you don't pay sales tax on trade-in credit you will lose that advantage when you buy a gift card (ie, purchases using a gift card will get charged sales tax). But in some states you get charged sales tax no matter what so it doesn't matter.
 
I do that occasionally myself. I have $220 or so on my PUR card, and about another $200 in gift cards. Just in case something happens, I have physical backups and won't lose everything, haha. Plus they're always sellable or giftable, which I think is supposed to be their main purpose... I think.

Just tell them you forgot your PUR card and give them your phone number. They'll put it on a different card like everyone says. Just dont do what I did and have that PUR fall out of your wallet after you say you don't have it. OOOPS! The kid did not see it though.
Since BBV's b1g1, I've got a stack of cards and a scary amount of credit to use. First thing I picked up was socom 4 and the sharpshooter attachment...what a let down. I returned both. That gun sucked. Move is useless with shooters.

Not sure where to post this, so I'll try here. I have (2) buy 2 get 1 free coupons for GS. I was hoping to turn around and get BB credit (or Amazon credit with BB gift card). Are there any games like the FO: NV that we were able to flip? Sorry if posted in wrong thread.

It isn't all that great, but Halo Reach gets $30 at Amazon right now. With a B2G1 coupon and 10% PUR discount you could get 3 copies for $90 at GS... That is an even trade and of course Amazon has the 2-game limit (per account). So, yeah, that kind of sucks :lol:. But if you just want to transfer credit that is a possibility.

I just got a B2G1 coupon from renewing my PowerUp Rewards Pro membership. They sent me an email offer for that + some bonus points. To their credit, as soon as I renewed in store yesterday I got a new email telling me I earned the coupon and 250 point bonus.

So if you find anything else let me know as I'd be interested in transfering some credit as well.

I'm going to assume the B2G1 and the $10 off used game coupon I got earleir won't stack, right? I haven't dealt with these too much but I figured not...

What systems were some of those for? Multiplatform titles aren't always the same trade-in value across the board....
 
What we need; with all the price drops, sales, and bonus TiV's; is a list of games which you can buy and then make money on by trading them right back into Gamestop. For instance you can make about $3 on RDR doing this and around 6(?) on Mortal Kombat if the TiV has stuck at $25. Not a bit deal if you're just doing one game, but if you find 5 or 6 titles you can do this with you'd be set to make $15-20. Not a huge amount no, but considering most towns have multiple GS's it's an easy drive to another one so you don't get banned like IAmTheCheapestGamer edit - Meant to say you can do this with the CAG16 code and the 10% PUR

You take the risk of the TIV dropping in the time you order the games and by the time it gets to you.

True but for those really into this there's free overnight shipping on orders $99 and over, I have $120 in credit so mine will be.

Second, you can buy gift cards with your GS credit straight up. I actually bought a PS3 from a friend with a $200 GS gift card. I just went into the store, told the guy I wanted a $200 GS gift card, and paid with my GS credit.

The downside of this is for many states GS does not charge tax when using Store Credit, but they will with a gift card.

I know this is true for NY, and NJ.
