I've received a couple pm's from people wanting to contribute prices but don't want to get harassed about selling to someone or getting more at place x. If this is the case for anyone, you can pm me any values and I'll update them in the list and database.

Also, the CAG Trade-In Value Tracker is now live and accessible from the main navigation.
Instructions on finding games in the database and inputting the values from different sections can be found in my blog post here: http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/blog.php?b=14143. I would put the entire post in the thread but this is already kind of a large post.

PLEASE POST BASE VALUES & SYSTEM IT IS FOR.

FAQ
These trade-in values are really low!
While that may be true, if you combine the games with the right promotion they can work to your advantage. There are knowledgeable people in this thread that are normally willing to help.

Is there any way to look at what the previous values reported on a game?
You can search through this thread and previous ones to see what a game has been reported in the past. With the TIV Tracker you can sort by date and then go through the list of past updated values through that as well. Here are the previous GS TIV Threads: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9.

Can I trade-in sealed games?
No. You might come across the rare GameStop that would let you do it, but they are going to open them anyway.

Do trade-ins have to have their original case, insert and manual?
No, however it will be YMMV on if they charge you a refurbish fee for them in that condition. Most GameStops wont charge a fee but there are some that charge for incomplete games.

Will they accept my game if it is really beat up?
YMMV. It really all depends upon the employee you get. Some will charge refurbish fees, some wont, some wont accept the game and others just take them without a second glance.

What are the refurb fees on games?
There appears to be set prices for set value ranges. We aren't 100% certain on the splits just yet. Here is what we have currently:
$0.25-$2 Value:
$0.75 Refurb Fee
$2.01-$4 Value: $1 Refurb Fee
$4.01-$7 Value: $2 Refurb Fee
$7.01-$10 Value: $3 Refurb Fee
$10.01 & Higher Value: $4 Refurb Fee
This information isn't guaranteed by any mean and we are still working on nailing it down.

I have a Collector's/Limited/Special edition of a game, do I have to trade-in all of the extras?
No, but there are a handful of games that their variations have separate listings at GameStop: Madden 09 Anniversary Edition, Battlefield: Bad Company Gold Edition, and a few others.

Why didn't the percent bonus go for my accessory for a system that was included?
Unless stated otherwise, and they are rarely included, the bonuses never apply to accessories. Except the EDGE card of course.

I traded in a bunch of games for the "Trade X, get $X bonus" promo and it gave me the percentage bonus instead?
I can't give concretes on why this happens. GameStop computers are normally pretty good at giving you the better promo. In the case of a percentage bonus being run at the same time as a "Trade X, get $X" promo, things can get messy. The system appears to only give one promo on games per transaction so if you had a few games that you want to go to the percentage bonus and a stack for the "Trade X, Get $X" it will regularly apply the percentage to all of the games. Your best bet is to do all "Trade X, Get $X" games in one transaction on their own. The GameStop clerk may say that the system will figure it all out, tell them you want a separate transaction anyway. As always, check your receipt before you leave the store.

Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
YMMV. The official policy is no, but there are some GameStops that overlook that rule.

What all do I have to trade in for a console trade-in?
Xbox 360: Console Unit, power brick, A/V Cables, Controller (wired/wireless)
Wii: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cables, Wiimote, Nunchuck, Sensor Bar
Playstation 3: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller, USB Cable
Playstation 2: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller (Must be a DualShock2)
GameCube: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller
PSP: Handheld, A/C Adapter
Nintendo DS/DSLite/DSi: Handheld, A/C Adapter, Stylus

Can I trade in a defective/broken console?
For the most part yes. If it powers on but doesn't play games, they will take the console as a refurb unit and put a refurb fee on the console. The refurb fee on the console will vary on the price of the console so those numbers will change. You are still required to trade in everything required listed in the question directly above. They will not, however, take RROD 360 consoles. There may be stores that still do it, but official policy is to not take them in.

How much does an EDGE card subscription cost?
It costs $14.99 and is good for a year. It also comes with a 1-year subscription to Game Informer magazine.

What bonuses come with having an EDGE card?
You will get an extra 10% trade-in credit on the base value of the game and an extra 10% off the purchase of used games.

Does the EDGE Card give me a bonus on hardware trade-ins?
No. You will only get the bonus for games and accessories.

What if I want cash instead of credit, what do they deduct?
If you decide that you want cash instead of credit, they will take 20% off the base values and promos will not apply.

Does promo "....." have a minimum trade-in value?
If the promo has a minimum trade-in value requirement, it will be listed in the promo. If it isn't there, then there is no limit. However, as with all trades, they are subject to manager approval so the manager could have setup his own little rule-set requiring a minimum of whatever.

I used a Power Trade promo for a pre-order, can I cancel that pre-order and get the credit or move it to another game I want?
Yes on both accounts. However, if you do a bunch of the power trades and just straight drop the pre-order you could create some ill-will between yourself and the employees you cancel on.

I just tried to use a promo that has a select list of games eligible, but they say my game isn't eligible anymore, what gives?
Basically they have the right to change the eligible games at any time. They tend to update these frequently so as to lock out any easy/cheap games. It's best to check the eligible list the day of your trade.

Can I stack two different trade-in promos?
No. The only thing that will stack with trade-ins is your EDGE card.

If I pay for an item using all credit on my card, do I have to pay sales tax?
This varies depending upon the state you live in.

What states charge sales tax on purchases paid in full with credit and which ones don't?
Charge Sales Tax on Credit Purchases: Alabama, Arkansas, California, Florida, Hawaii, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Utah, West Virginia
Does Not Charge Sales Tax on Credit Purchases: Alaska, Arizona, Colorado, Delaware, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Dakota, Oregon, South Carolina, Texas, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin, Wyoming
No Information Yet: Connecticut, Idaho, Mississippi, Nevada, New Mexico, Rhode Island, South Dakota

My state doesn't charge sales tax on purchases made by credit, why is gamestop.com charging me tax?
It is just the way they have designed their system. The best theory we have seen is that since you are only inputting the number off of the back of the card, it isn't going to pick up the programming from the specially tagged EDGE cards. Some kind of programming that gets input from their system that wont show up when only inputting the number off the back of the card.

First post contains promo information and the FAQ. Second post has the 360/Wii/PS3 values. Third post has the PS2/GC values. Fourth post has DS/PSP/GBA values.
I have been on this site longer than you, anyone who sells on ebay knows that with an auction you receive less penalties and fees. I can keep going on and on with recent auction sales that are in the $35-$40 arena which no matter anyway you put it would be more money than gamestop.

The point of a cheapassgamer is to buy for less, sell for more. Seems like people here do not grasp what I am explaining.

I'm done here, stupid people will never learn.......
The point of this thread is to go to GS and trade it in. You want an eBay flipping thread, head off somewhere else. There's no need to explain to anyone how we could all be millionaires if we used eBay to sell our crap.

Go tell people with lowball auctions that they'd probably make more selling on eBay as well. I'm sure they also want to hear your preaching.

I'm not the enemy, I'm here for the community. With that said Amazion Trade in is offering a SERIOUS amount for Call Of Duty Modern Warfare 2 ( PS3)
subtract your ebay 9% from original sale $3.51

actually man you're wrong, ebay takes more than that if you do a buy it now, and since there's no way to guarantee a profitable sale with an auction, buy it now is how i usually go...
Yeah, it is an outrageous 15% for BINs... I use eBay and always go with BIN because of the uncertainty of auctions. Unless it is a high volume item (lots of listings, lots of sales) you can never be sure about auctions and over time the BIN will get you more money despite the fees. And don't forget the potential tax implications of eBay sales...

But there are times when GS is simply better, hands down, than the best you could hope for from eBay (eg, when they gave me $56 for Mass Effect 2). More often than not, though, it is break-even or only slightly better on eBay. In that case, sure, cash is better than GS credit so maybe that's enough for you to go the eBay route. But GS is much faster and more convenient. So there's a use for both - and don't forget Amazon/Gazelle/Dealtree which fill the gap since they offer cash or the cash-like equivalent Amazon credit. I find that I'm diverting a lot of what I used to trade at GS and sell on eBay to those services. While not as fast as going to GS, they are fairly convenient (no driving 16 miles RT to GS) and safe (ie, from bad eBay buyers, chargebacks, etc).

To me, the point of CAG is to get what you want, from where you want, at the price you want. There's no one way that's the best. That's why there's a billion threads and not only a single ebay thread and nothing else.

Their systems have historically defaulted to the better deal when I've encountered similar situations. I'm sure this ime won't be any different.

*jumping into the fray*

tears- Shut the fuck up already.

tell me where on ebay I can sell and get $40 for NSMBWii used?

Like with everything, the smart CAG picks and chooses to get the most out of whatever he's buying or selling. Your (correctly used) constant bitching about how we're all stupid for not using ebay is better off as a rant for your dog. Just stfu and leave the thread.

Because of this thread and the actual helpful people on it, I can decide whether I get more from trading in at GS or selling on ebay. And because I'm not a moron like you, I make a quick calculation and do what's best.

Now, can you please leave and let the adults talk in here.

so when does the trade three get 10 bucks thing start? i have a cover-artless copy of wanted, alone in the dark and condemned 2 that i had basically accepted would be on my shelf forever. would they give full price for artless games and games in gamestop cases?
so when does the trade three get 10 bucks thing start? i have a cover-artless copy of wanted, alone in the dark and condemned 2 that i had basically accepted would be on my shelf forever. would they give full price for artless games and games in gamestop cases?
Yeah they will. As long as the discs aren't messed up. They charge the same for disc-only games, so it makes sense that they give the same.

Why is everybody on here arguing? I am new and get on here to check out GameStop trade values and their implications to CAGs, however there is like one trade update or relevant comments to every five complaints, counter complaints and general whining. Is there a way to remove these? In fact remove this post since it has nothing to do with GameStop trade values. Come on people, no one cares about your opinions on GameStop because we all have our own already.

Ban tears immediately. He is disrupting this thread. If you have a problem with gamestop, take it to the deal discussion.

I don't like them either but most people use this thread to see where they can find the loopholes to get the most from what they're offering. That's smarter than coming in and whining about ebay values when ebay is a bigger shithole than gamestop ever was.

hey, at least gamestop never takes your game from you, then asks their credit card company for their money back because you never gave them the game. fuck ebay.

We aren't sure on an exact start date yet. I have a feeling it'll be 6/7 but don't know just yet. Most stores will give full value no matter what but there are some stores that will refurb those games. If a store gives a refurb fee for an incomplete game, just take them to another one.

Definitely, we go through this every so often. It'll die down for a while. Another week or two someone else will start stuff.

Also, working on updating the values.

I say take the neoGAF route. Ban any gamestop tiv complainers in this thread immedately. Put it in the OP and make it a rule. People will stop.

It would require too much time to enforce on a mods part. Best thing to do is really just ignore them. Don't feed them and they just wither away.

I just wanted to apologize for my part in feeding tears. He just said some things that I found ridiculous and I had a hard time not responding.

As of today:
Since the other :ps2: Singstars were updated recently...
Singstar Pop :ps2: 3.50
Singstar Rocks :ps2: 2.75

Perhaps it's time to let go of Modern Warfare 2, Left 4 Dead 2, and Civilization Revolution. All of which have been collecting in my entertainment center for a while. While they may be good games, I've bought so many games recently due to the very sweet deals offered by Amazon, GameStop, and K-Mart.

Needless to say, anyone reading this couldn't give two shits about my future plans... but typing them out makes me feel all squishy inside knowing I'm sharing it with the interwebz. :)

Does anyone know if the trade 3 get $10 works if i trade in cheap games? Like the burger king games and old sport games?
Does anyone know if the trade 3 get $10 works if i trade in cheap games? Like the burger king games and old sport games?
I'd like to know this as well. I want to trade in an older game (TIV: $3) and want to make sure it isn't excluded from the deal.

From the first post about the upcoming promos, all games for the trade 3 get $10 deal have to have a base TIV of $1.01 or more. They also have to be 360/Wii/PS3/DS/PSP games according to the information I was given.

You post one example and I can post 10+ to counter what you are saying. Also that $40 is with the 50% bonus on top of the trade in which would give you around $37. Now on the flip side I can say sell Super Mario Galaxy 2 on the internet to either ebay or amazon and you will get more for it than gamestop would give you, you see how that works.......

Also to the hillbilly dude who said I should be banned for talking bad about "gamestop" needs to get a life. I only posted in this thread to say that what most people seem to be deals are truly not. Now if you people want to cry about websites and their fees then so be it, until YOU smarten up and stop giving Gamestop business because your simple mind does not know how to sell anywhere else then gamestop as a company will always rape you on $.

Don't be scared to learn something else, you have to leave mommas nest one time in your life......

If I can get $38 dollars for Call of Duty as opposed to $24 , why would I sell it for less? Just because it's easier to go to gamestop instead of mailing something?

Whatever , never understand some people.

Now if I truly see a Gamestop deal that is good then that's great, but out of every 10 games their might be one descent flip and just for that alone I can never see myself giving gamestop business. There are two sides to everything in life, so if people do not like my post then simply ignore them. I'm done within this thread as I have said everything I need too

peace

I just came from GS. This is what I got (all with 50% and 10% EDGE):

PS3:
BioShock- $13.60
UFC 2010- $35.20
Blitz- $11.20
Killzone 2- $8.80
Resistance 2- $10.81
inFAMOUS- $12.41
FIFA Soccer 2010- $38.40
Resident Evil 5- $10.81

Total of $141.23

I have a bunch of older sports games, and other games like the darkness, conan, star wars force unleashed, turok etc. I'm trying to figure out which deals are better for me.

I was told at my gamestop that to get the 50% the game needs to be at least $2+. So seems to me I'm pretty screwed with my sports games.

It doesn't have to be two dollars. However, there have been instances in the past where a district manager has put a policy like that in place so they don't get a lot of old sports titles. Seen it happen in the Owensboro, KY area at one point.

Would you suggest I trade in my sports games and games under $1.01 in the 50% deal and anything above in the 3 for extra $10? I think that's what seems to be the best.

Yes but if you have any games with a TIV greater than $6.66, you're better off with the 50% on those.

I usually say to save those title for the 3/4/5 tiered deals. One time I literally bought a copy of madden 2004 or something at a dollar to trade in for .25 to make the most on the tiered deal. They even let me do it on the same transaction.

360 base $80 6/6/10

Do all gamestops ask for your ID and then scan it?

Maybe it's been a policy at gamestops for a while and the ones in my area just adopted it, but I don't trade in games regularly, the last time I did was about a year ago probably. I don't ever remember having this done to me before.

Yes, but only in an alternate universe where $9.41 is more then $16.27.

3x2.09 = 6.27

1.5x6.27 = 9.41
6.27+10 = 16.27

Compare to 6.66x3 = 19.98

1.5x19.98 = 29.97
19.98+10 = 29.98

So it needs to have a base higher then 6.66 to make the 50% deal better. Of course you don't have to have 3 games to use the 50% deal.

I have never been asked for my ID when trading games in.
