Instructions on finding games in the database and inputting the values from different sections can be found in my blog post here: http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/blog.php?b=14143. I would put the entire post in the thread but this is already kind of a large post.

FAQ
These trade-in values are really low!
While that may be true, if you combine the games with the right promotion they can work to your advantage. There are knowledgeable people in this thread that are normally willing to help.

Is there any way to look at what the previous values reported on a game?
You can search through this thread and previous ones to see what a game has been reported in the past. With the TIV Tracker you can sort by date and then go through the list of past updated values through that as well. Here are the previous GS TIV Threads: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9.

Can I trade-in sealed games?
No. You might come across the rare GameStop that would let you do it, but they are going to open them anyway.

Do trade-ins have to have their original case, insert and manual?
No, however it will be YMMV on if they charge you a refurbish fee for them in that condition. Most GameStops wont charge a fee but there are some that charge for incomplete games.

Will they accept my game if it is really beat up?
YMMV. It really all depends upon the employee you get. Some will charge refurbish fees, some wont, some wont accept the game and others just take them without a second glance.

What are the refurb fees on games?
There appears to be set prices for set value ranges. We aren't 100% certain on the splits just yet. Here is what we have currently:
$0.25-$2 Value:
$0.75 Refurb Fee
$2.01-$4 Value: $1 Refurb Fee
$4.01-$7 Value: $2 Refurb Fee
$7.01-$10 Value: $3 Refurb Fee
$10.01 & Higher Value: $4 Refurb Fee
This information isn't guaranteed by any mean and we are still working on nailing it down.

I have a Collector's/Limited/Special edition of a game, do I have to trade-in all of the extras?
No, but there are a handful of games that their variations have separate listings at GameStop: Madden 09 Anniversary Edition, Battlefield: Bad Company Gold Edition, and a few others.

Why didn't the percent bonus go for my accessory for a system that was included?
Unless stated otherwise, and they are rarely included, the bonuses never apply to accessories. Except the EDGE card of course.

I traded in a bunch of games for the "Trade X, get $X bonus" promo and it gave me the percentage bonus instead?
I can't give concretes on why this happens. GameStop computers are normally pretty good at giving you the better promo. In the case of a percentage bonus being run at the same time as a "Trade X, get $X" promo, things can get messy. The system appears to only give one promo on games per transaction so if you had a few games that you want to go to the percentage bonus and a stack for the "Trade X, Get $X" it will regularly apply the percentage to all of the games. Your best bet is to do all "Trade X, Get $X" games in one transaction on their own. The GameStop clerk may say that the system will figure it all out, tell them you want a separate transaction anyway. As always, check your receipt before you leave the store.

Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
YMMV. The official policy is no, but there are some GameStops that overlook that rule.

What all do I have to trade in for a console trade-in?
Xbox 360: Console Unit, power brick, A/V Cables, Controller (wired/wireless)
Wii: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cables, Wiimote, Nunchuck, Sensor Bar
Playstation 3: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller, USB Cable
Playstation 2: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller (Must be a DualShock2)
GameCube: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller
PSP: Handheld, A/C Adapter
Nintendo DS/DSLite/DSi: Handheld, A/C Adapter, Stylus

Can I trade in a defective/broken console?
For the most part yes. If it powers on but doesn't play games, they will take the console as a refurb unit and put a refurb fee on the console. The refurb fee on the console will vary on the price of the console so those numbers will change. You are still required to trade in everything required listed in the question directly above. They will not, however, take RROD 360 consoles. There may be stores that still do it, but official policy is to not take them in.

How much does an EDGE card subscription cost?
It costs $14.99 and is good for a year. It also comes with a 1-year subscription to Game Informer magazine.

What bonuses come with having an EDGE card?
You will get an extra 10% trade-in credit on the base value of the game and an extra 10% off the purchase of used games.

Does the EDGE Card give me a bonus on hardware trade-ins?
No. You will only get the bonus for games and accessories.

What if I want cash instead of credit, what do they deduct?
If you decide that you want cash instead of credit, they will take 20% off the base values and promos will not apply.

Does promo "....." have a minimum trade-in value?
If the promo has a minimum trade-in value requirement, it will be listed in the promo. If it isn't there, then there is no limit. However, as with all trades, they are subject to manager approval so the manager could have setup his own little rule-set requiring a minimum of whatever.

I used a Power Trade promo for a pre-order, can I cancel that pre-order and get the credit or move it to another game I want?
Yes on both accounts. However, if you do a bunch of the power trades and just straight drop the pre-order you could create some ill-will between yourself and the employees you cancel on.

I just tried to use a promo that has a select list of games eligible, but they say my game isn't eligible anymore, what gives?
Basically they have the right to change the eligible games at any time. They tend to update these frequently so as to lock out any easy/cheap games. It's best to check the eligible list the day of your trade.

Can I stack two different trade-in promos?
No. The only thing that will stack with trade-ins is your EDGE card.

If I pay for an item using all credit on my card, do I have to pay sales tax?
This varies depending upon the state you live in.

What states charge sales tax on purchases paid in full with credit and which ones don't?
Charge Sales Tax on Credit Purchases: Alabama, Arkansas, California, Florida, Hawaii, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Utah, West Virginia
Does Not Charge Sales Tax on Credit Purchases: Alaska, Arizona, Colorado, Delaware, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Dakota, Oregon, South Carolina, Texas, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin, Wyoming
No Information Yet: Connecticut, Idaho, Mississippi, Nevada, New Mexico, Rhode Island, South Dakota

My state doesn't charge sales tax on purchases made by credit, why is gamestop.com charging me tax?
It is just the way they have designed their system. The best theory we have seen is that since you are only inputting the number off of the back of the card, it isn't going to pick up the programming from the specially tagged EDGE cards. Some kind of programming that gets input from their system that wont show up when only inputting the number off the back of the card.

First post contains promo information and the FAQ. Second post has the 360/Wii/PS3 values. Third post has the PS2/GC values. Fourth post has DS/PSP/GBA values.

I wonder how long before NSMB drops. I'm tempted to order some off the site, but knowing my luck it will be too late.

i cant believe its stayed at $25 so long. i've traded in a few. bought at $17.xx with $10 coupon trade in for $40 and get another $10 coupon.

If I bought several NSMB pre-owned at one store for $30.00 minus the 10% EDGE Bonus ($3.00 off) making it $27.00 TOTAL and then go to another store and trade these back with the bonus of $40.00, the same day would that be an issue. Is there a policy of trading in only one of a specific game per transaction?

I know the better deal is to buy it online if you have coupons, but I am just afraid that the NSMB TIV of $25.00 will drop soon and I want to take advantage of this deal while it still trades in at $25.00 before the 60% as I can make $10.00 extra credit per trade.

Well most of the time they wont let you trade in multiple copies of a single game. Also that's a quick way to get tagged as a reseller and get banned from trading.
A few tips FYI:

Even if it says with the 50% that all games apply, don't get your hopes up on getting that to work with PS2, Gamecube, or any accessories for any system including the current gen.

My trades last week included some PS2 games, and 3 accessories for the 360. None of those got the extra discount, so unless you find out otherwise, only expect the 50% to work with PS3, 360, Wii, and possibly handhelds.

Here's another tip: If you've traded in over the last 7 days, go back to your receipt and look at the base trade value, and multiply those amounts by 50%. After that, total up all the amounts and you should see what you would've got grand total with the 50%, versus the 30% from last week. I only wound up with an additional $10 to $15.
i traded ps2 games to gamestop on sunday when they were having a special 50% on memorial's day and the 50% plus edge worked on it.

Great idea, with the small problem that NSMB trades for 17$ as of today.

Hmm, I'm confused, I just read back and see someone quoting 25$, yet they had 17$ on the board.

traded modern warfare 2 for $24 and now it's down to $16....they basically lowered the trade in value so you think you're getting a great deal...but it's better than nothing

Well that makes a lot more sense if NSMB is trading for $17.00 now. It is funny though since people were saying that as of today it still traded in at $25.00.

I can't imagine Gamestop, which are the masters of giving you less than half the retail price for TIV on brand new releases as soon as you walk out of their stores letting NSMB sit at $25 for trade and selling it $30 used before the Edge card factors in.

As of 10 hours ago I traded NSMB Wii for $25 base. Not at all surprised if it was changed since then, since the clerk at the store said it was the highest TIV he has ever seen, with EDGE and the promotional bonus.

So let me figure this out? You traded in MW2 at $24.00 with the recent 30% + 10% Edge deal? That gave you a TIV of $33.60.

Now if you traded in MW2 with the $16.00 with 50% + 10% Edge, you are only getting $25.60 TIV. Sure you are still getting the same $9.60 extra for trade in promotion, but you lost a whopping $8.00 even with the higher percentage because the price drop is much too great.

Not that great a deal after all as I imagine all of their higher trade-in games took a universal price drop.

The 30% one specifically said only PS3 360 and Wii and handhelds, this one is ALL games. Just came back from a GS, got 50% on Shinobi for PS2.

Thanks for the heads up though, nice of you.

If they end up having both 50% & Trade 3 Get $10 active at the same time, do you just tell them which promo you want applied?

They probably realized many games like NSMB they were losing money on with the late TIV adjustments. They probably would have made the adjustments sooner like this past Memorial Weekend if all stores were doing the 50% extra then.

ok, I have a correction, tiv on NSMB wii is still 25$, (DS version is 17), so trade your copies and buy a new copy online using a 10$ code & saver. Keep you good box as they sent me generic cases last time.

I think I will order the game online tomorrow after I call GS to confirm if it is in fact still $25 at the start of a new business day.

Their system applies the promo that gives you the most money. I'd say a good 80% off the time it works great. However, it has been known to jack things around so watch the receipt carefully.

I figured that was the DS value. We've had a large number of people post in the thread and add to the TIV Tracker today for it to have been $17 for the Wii version. They don't change values midday. All updates of that nature come through the over-night update.

On the Wii bundle thing -

I could trade in my original Wii with nunchuck and remote, and get a brand new black Wii with Motion+ and Wii sports resort for just $50?

Do I get an extra $25 on the TIV for the Wii too? If so this could be really sweet deal.

You do not get the additional $25. The other deal is better so you would get it, not both.

If they do the wrong promo can they fix it after the fact? Their display that shows the receipt during the trade never works.

Normally. A lot of employees wont want to go through the process to do it though.

Sorry to burst your bubble but it's not $30 pre-owned in-store. It is $44.99

Anyone knows is they accept 3rd party component cables for Wii? And I have an unopened motion plus thing, do they accept it? I guess I could get more if I sell it to someone or see if walmart wants it...

I traded a couple of NSMB yesterday (at different stores, 06042010) and it was $25 base, $40 after Edge+Promo.

I was watching for the base value to have dropped since its insane its lasted as long as it has. I wonder if its changed since then? Somehow, I doubt it because it was 4 PM in the afternoon.
How do we know there is a trade 3 get 10$ starting soon?
because Stone Cold said so!

Will the 50% Bonus work with the games listed on that $25 Guaranteed Trade-In FLyer starting 6/7?

I was wondering when this would get asked. Everyone bitching about lower tiv's and all. YES the guaranteed $25 games will work with the 50%!!!
I was wondering when this would get asked. Everyone bitching about lower tiv's and all. YES the guaranteed $25 games will work with the 50%!!!
I think it will be highly YMMV to get those 2 offers to stack. Just my gut feeling.

I have the flyer in hand. There are some flippable games actually.

This $25 guarantee as stated on the bottom "Offer valid 6/7/10-6/27/10"

BASE TIV from 06/04/2010

PSP:
Midway Arcade Classics 2.00

Wii:
Let's Paint 5.00
NSMB: 25.00

X360:
Backyard Sandlot Sluggers 7.00

So those guaranteed $25.00 games must be a very short list though as GS normally only has the newest of the new games listed for $25 TIV, which is why the NSMB price intrigues me.

So I guess $30 NSMB pre-owned is only for online? Thanksfor explaining that.
Is there any chance you could list those games or scan it for us, Jiggy?
Seconded. Didn't even know such a list existed and want to know what's on it before I head out to GS today in case I'm about to trade a game from that list.

Sorry, I don't have access to the tools to do it atm. I will simply type out the list for you guys then, hope that helps. Sorry for that. Please note that I'm just going to type the title and not platform. I'm sure we're all enough of a gamer to figure out which ones are exclusive, and which ones are multi. I will give platform in cases where it does matter. (example: Eternal Sonata for ps3)

2010 Fifa World Cup South Africa

I apologize for typos. I'm in a rush. Will check back later for further questions/clarifications. In the meantime, I apologize for doing it this way.

Is gamestop really giving $20 base credit on SSFIV? Or is that with the 50% added? Because if it's just the base, then it's $32 total if you have Edge. Then you can get it online for $28+tax new, and get the $10 coupon!! I might just do that, 1-2 weeks without Super won't hurtI guess.}

Edit. In that $25 guaranteed, does it have the small print where it says it wont stack with other offers?

It wont stack, if you look at the 50% additional credit on their website it says "Cannot be combined with any other offer"

If anything, its because of the 50% trade in value that they can even have this sort of promotional material. I'm guessing that is the basis behind the ad to begin with - however, if it does stack, thats pretty great for some of those older titles (Tales of Vesperia - 15 bucks at Amazon a couple times) - but I'd lean towards no.

Just traded some things in all prices are base 6-5-2010

It wont stack, if you look at the 50% additional credit on their website it says "Cannot be combined with any other offer"

Does Edge work at least?

Im going to see what they give me today anyways. I already have made all the calculations and see what works best depending on how much they give me.

LITTLE BIG PLANET GOTY=$8.00

Hah, I sold the regular version for $20 to a guy on a swapmeet like 3 weeks ago. Two weeks ago, I traded Bioshock 2 and paid $10 for a new copy of RDR to another guy in the same swapmeet. I actually dont really like trading with Gamestop unless they have good deals...
