I've received a couple pm's from people wanting to contribute prices but don't want to get harassed about selling to someone or getting more at place x. If this is the case for anyone, you can pm me any values and I'll update them in the list and database.

Also, the CAG Trade-In Value Tracker is now live and accessible from the main navigation.
Instructions on finding games in the database and inputting the values from different sections can be found in my blog post here: http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/blog.php?b=14143. I would put the entire post in the thread but this is already kind of a large post.

PLEASE POST BASE VALUES & SYSTEM IT IS FOR.

FAQ
These trade-in values are really low!
While that may be true, if you combine the games with the right promotion they can work to your advantage. There are knowledgeable people in this thread that are normally willing to help.

Is there any way to look at what the previous values reported on a game?
You can search through this thread and previous ones to see what a game has been reported in the past. With the TIV Tracker you can sort by date and then go through the list of past updated values through that as well. Here are the previous GS TIV Threads: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9.

Can I trade-in sealed games?
No. You might come across the rare GameStop that would let you do it, but they are going to open them anyway.

Do trade-ins have to have their original case, insert and manual?
No, however it will be YMMV on if they charge you a refurbish fee for them in that condition. Most GameStops wont charge a fee but there are some that charge for incomplete games.

Will they accept my game if it is really beat up?
YMMV. It really all depends upon the employee you get. Some will charge refurbish fees, some wont, some wont accept the game and others just take them without a second glance.

What are the refurb fees on games?
There appears to be set prices for set value ranges. We aren't 100% certain on the splits just yet. Here is what we have currently:
$0.25-$2 Value:
$0.75 Refurb Fee
$2.01-$4 Value: $1 Refurb Fee
$4.01-$7 Value: $2 Refurb Fee
$7.01-$10 Value: $3 Refurb Fee
$10.01 & Higher Value: $4 Refurb Fee
This information isn't guaranteed by any mean and we are still working on nailing it down.

I have a Collector's/Limited/Special edition of a game, do I have to trade-in all of the extras?
No, but there are a handful of games that their variations have separate listings at GameStop: Madden 09 Anniversary Edition, Battlefield: Bad Company Gold Edition, and a few others.

Why didn't the percent bonus go for my accessory for a system that was included?
Unless stated otherwise, and they are rarely included, the bonuses never apply to accessories. Except the EDGE card of course.

I traded in a bunch of games for the "Trade X, get $X bonus" promo and it gave me the percentage bonus instead?
I can't give concretes on why this happens. GameStop computers are normally pretty good at giving you the better promo. In the case of a percentage bonus being run at the same time as a "Trade X, get $X" promo, things can get messy. The system appears to only give one promo on games per transaction so if you had a few games that you want to go to the percentage bonus and a stack for the "Trade X, Get $X" it will regularly apply the percentage to all of the games. Your best bet is to do all "Trade X, Get $X" games in one transaction on their own. The GameStop clerk may say that the system will figure it all out, tell them you want a separate transaction anyway. As always, check your receipt before you leave the store.

Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
YMMV. The official policy is no, but there are some GameStops that overlook that rule.

What all do I have to trade in for a console trade-in?
Xbox 360: Console Unit, power brick, A/V Cables, Controller (wired/wireless)
Wii: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cables, Wiimote, Nunchuck, Sensor Bar
Playstation 3: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller, USB Cable
Playstation 2: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller (Must be a DualShock2)
GameCube: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller
PSP: Handheld, A/C Adapter
Nintendo DS/DSLite/DSi: Handheld, A/C Adapter, Stylus

Can I trade in a defective/broken console?
For the most part yes. If it powers on but doesn't play games, they will take the console as a refurb unit and put a refurb fee on the console. The refurb fee on the console will vary on the price of the console so those numbers will change. You are still required to trade in everything required listed in the question directly above. They will not, however, take RROD 360 consoles. There may be stores that still do it, but official policy is to not take them in.

How much does an EDGE card subscription cost?
It costs $14.99 and is good for a year. It also comes with a 1-year subscription to Game Informer magazine.

What bonuses come with having an EDGE card?
You will get an extra 10% trade-in credit on the base value of the game and an extra 10% off the purchase of used games.

Does the EDGE Card give me a bonus on hardware trade-ins?
No. You will only get the bonus for games and accessories.

What if I want cash instead of credit, what do they deduct?
If you decide that you want cash instead of credit, they will take 20% off the base values and promos will not apply.

Does promo "....." have a minimum trade-in value?
If the promo has a minimum trade-in value requirement, it will be listed in the promo. If it isn't there, then there is no limit. However, as with all trades, they are subject to manager approval so the manager could have setup his own little rule-set requiring a minimum of whatever.

I used a Power Trade promo for a pre-order, can I cancel that pre-order and get the credit or move it to another game I want?
Yes on both accounts. However, if you do a bunch of the power trades and just straight drop the pre-order you could create some ill-will between yourself and the employees you cancel on.

I just tried to use a promo that has a select list of games eligible, but they say my game isn't eligible anymore, what gives?
Basically they have the right to change the eligible games at any time. They tend to update these frequently so as to lock out any easy/cheap games. It's best to check the eligible list the day of your trade.

Can I stack two different trade-in promos?
No. The only thing that will stack with trade-ins is your EDGE card.

If I pay for an item using all credit on my card, do I have to pay sales tax?
This varies depending upon the state you live in.

What states charge sales tax on purchases paid in full with credit and which ones don't?
Charge Sales Tax on Credit Purchases: Alabama, Arkansas, California, Florida, Hawaii, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Utah, West Virginia
Does Not Charge Sales Tax on Credit Purchases: Alaska, Arizona, Colorado, Delaware, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Dakota, Oregon, South Carolina, Texas, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin, Wyoming
No Information Yet: Connecticut, Idaho, Mississippi, Nevada, New Mexico, Rhode Island, South Dakota

My state doesn't charge sales tax on purchases made by credit, why is gamestop.com charging me tax?
It is just the way they have designed their system. The best theory we have seen is that since you are only inputting the number off of the back of the card, it isn't going to pick up the programming from the specially tagged EDGE cards. Some kind of programming that gets input from their system that wont show up when only inputting the number off the back of the card.

First post contains promo information and the FAQ. Second post has the 360/Wii/PS3 values. Third post has the PS2/GC values. Fourth post has DS/PSP/GBA values.
Yeah, I wasn't going to update the lists or the database until we got a phone quote or something. We had that happen about a week ago in the thread and the $17 on the board ended up being the TIV of NSMB for DS. I actually never update values if they have stated coming from the board.
Could a GS store or region decide to give a different amount of TIV for a game? I did not think so, since all are corp owned, but not sure why we would have several people mistake the DS TIV for the Wii TIV.
(360) Green Day Rockband $20 Base TIV
An employee at a local GS was telling customers they could import the songs from GDRB into RB1 or RB2 and trade the game in. Is that true? Never played RB (or GH since the 1st for that matter) so I wasn't sure.

Yep, which is why a few people are already trading it in—for $10 (or free if you preordered it or got the "Plus" version of the game), you can export the game's songs to play in RB1 or RB2. I have mine ready to trade in along with New SMB Wii whenever I can get out of work today.

I just traded In:
Skate 3 PS3 - 24
New Super Mario Bros Wii - 25
Mario Kart Wii - 15 ( I didnt trade it in)

I got 78.40 for Skate 3 & NSMB

The only way they could is by doing a manual over-ride in the computer and I'm pretty sure that shows up on the receipt. Corporate could have test areas for different values but I doubt it. What I think is happening is one of two things. Either the employees are putting up Wii on the board and not double checking the computer or people are seeing New Super Mario Bros. on the board and assume it's the Wii value.

So, I went to trade in Uncharted 2 because the website said you could get $25 in trade. After the clerk started the transaction he said I was getting $26.50 in trade and that was with the 50% bonus.

I said what about it being on the list for $25 and he said it wasn't until another clerk showed him the list and it was. Then he said well they already factored in the 50% bonus and made it $25 (from $15), which doesn't add up.

I told him I'd take my game back. Am I wrong for thinking that it would be $25 plus 50% bonus?

Yes, you are wrong unfortunately. They are separate promotions and will not stack.

Yes, but once again the confusing thing here is that everyone is getting $25 + 50% for NSMB which is on the $25 list, so it is natural for people to think other games will do that as well. But NSMB has a base value of $25 anyway, so it really isn't using the $25 promo and just using 50% as the one and only promo applied on it.
The boards do say which system the games are for. At least the ones around here anyway.
I think it depends upon the board design. The few around me have dry erase versions of the board. There are a couple that actually have the systems listed.

Yeah this 50% running at the same time as the $25 guaranteed has been causing problems. From a standpoint of the confusion, I'll be glad when the 50% ends.

Thats what I traded in, on their trade-in value board I noticed this.

New Super Mario Bros Wii - $17.00
Are you sure it didn't say:

New Super Mario Bros DS - $17? That's what it said at the Gamestop that I went to this morning.
Are you sure it didn't say:

yes this confusion has happened before:

new super mario bros ds: 17
new super mario bros wii: 25

Sigh. I'm conflicted, guys.

The manager (who I had developed a great rapport with over the years) of my preferred Gamestop evidently left the company, and was replaced with a young(ish), cute, large chested (and married) female manager.

I'm not sure how I should feel about this.

Is losing all that free swag and preferential treatment worth a little added eye candy when I shop for games? =/

*bites nails*

I think I may transfer all my credit over to Amazon...

On topic:

MGS: Peace Walker is at $18.00 base, no change.

As quickly as they can turn around and sell nsmb wii I don't think they're concerned with the high tiv. My stores don't have any in stock used no matter how many people are making 40 a pop! As long as it keeps selling we can prob keep flipping!

That being said, I ordered one yesterday USA ground 2 day haha
On the trade 3 for an extra $10, can you trade in 6 for $20, 9 for $30 etc.? Or will you need to do separate transactions of 3?
yes that should work, unless the computer thinks there is a game in there that works better with the 50%. Definitely check the receipt and work it out with the clerk if you see some discrepancy.

Sorry for the off topicness (forgive me jp), but does anyone know if you pay for overnight delivery from GS.com whether the games will be delivered on Saturday (assuming that they are shipped on Friday)?

EDIT: I know the site says "business day" but I was curious if anyone had any practical experience with this. It seems logical that UPS would just deliver it on Saturday anyway, but I could be wrong.

Will the edge card stack with the games on the $25 dollar list, thus giving you $27.50? or do you still get a total of 25 dollars?

Sorry if this has been asked before but I can't keep up with this thread, it is monstrous and the search doesn't yield my answer.

When trading in 3 games for the additional $10 do you have to stay with the same system type? Can I do 1 psp, 1 360 and 1 ps3 to get the bonus?

You can mix and match, did that yesterday

As of 15 minutes ago.

RDR (PS3) - $25
MLB 10 (PS3) - $23
Tetris (DS) - $13
New SMB (DS) - $17
Mario Party (DS) - $15

I think Tetris is the only new change in price and that is only minor.

Base values as of today:

(PS2) Steambot Chronicles - $0.95
(PS2) Metal Saga - $0.60
(PS2) Atelier Iris 2 - $2.75
(360) Halo 3 ODST - $7
(PS3) Quantum of Solace - $5.50
(DS) World Ends With You - $6.25

Total after Edge + Bonus = $36.89

There are eye candy everywhere unless you live in an ugly town, I stick with the preferential treatment.

TIV:
NSMB WII: $25
Super Street Fighter 4 (PS3): $20

Street fighter is holding nicely

i just tried to order NSMB again and it wouldnt let me as i now notice the limit is 2. i wonder when they put this in place as i never noticed it before.

Exactly!

Three years down the drain. No more of those awesomely massive front window posters, no more returns of games I bought new if I don't like them, no more piles of leftover swag...

More importantly, no more just hanging out and bullshitting for an hour or so about games and whatnot. He was a pretty cool fellow.

This new chick is really, really nice, but I can tell she's strictly business, and it's probably not worth putting in the effort to try and build up that rapport again.

Haven't seen their "Buy 2, Get 1 Free" promotion for a while now. Any word on when that's happening? Thanks. :)

I am seeing at least one female in every store lately. Before there were hardly any. I guess they want all the nerds drooling and coming back! :p
You wanting a quote? You can call em ya know?
That takes too long, at least at mine. Every time I call they always say they can't give a quote over the phone, they have to see what condition it is in. I always have to ask how much I could get for X game if I had just purchased it new there, ripped off the shrink wrap and traded it back in. :/
