Instructions on finding games in the database and inputting the values from different sections can be found in my blog post here: http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/blog.php?b=14143. I would put the entire post in the thread but this is already kind of a large post.

FAQ
These trade-in values are really low!
While that may be true, if you combine the games with the right promotion they can work to your advantage. There are knowledgeable people in this thread that are normally willing to help.

Is there any way to look at what the previous values reported on a game?
You can search through this thread and previous ones to see what a game has been reported in the past. With the TIV Tracker you can sort by date and then go through the list of past updated values through that as well. Here are the previous GS TIV Threads: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9.

Can I trade-in sealed games?
No. You might come across the rare GameStop that would let you do it, but they are going to open them anyway.

Do trade-ins have to have their original case, insert and manual?
No, however it will be YMMV on if they charge you a refurbish fee for them in that condition. Most GameStops wont charge a fee but there are some that charge for incomplete games.

Will they accept my game if it is really beat up?
YMMV. It really all depends upon the employee you get. Some will charge refurbish fees, some wont, some wont accept the game and others just take them without a second glance.

What are the refurb fees on games?
There appears to be set prices for set value ranges. We aren't 100% certain on the splits just yet. Here is what we have currently:
$0.25-$2 Value:
$0.75 Refurb Fee
$2.01-$4 Value: $1 Refurb Fee
$4.01-$7 Value: $2 Refurb Fee
$7.01-$10 Value: $3 Refurb Fee
$10.01 & Higher Value: $4 Refurb Fee
This information isn't guaranteed by any mean and we are still working on nailing it down.

I have a Collector's/Limited/Special edition of a game, do I have to trade-in all of the extras?
No, but there are a handful of games that their variations have separate listings at GameStop: Madden 09 Anniversary Edition, Battlefield: Bad Company Gold Edition, and a few others.

Why didn't the percent bonus go for my accessory for a system that was included?
Unless stated otherwise, and they are rarely included, the bonuses never apply to accessories. Except the EDGE card of course.

I traded in a bunch of games for the "Trade X, get $X bonus" promo and it gave me the percentage bonus instead?
I can't give concretes on why this happens. GameStop computers are normally pretty good at giving you the better promo. In the case of a percentage bonus being run at the same time as a "Trade X, get $X" promo, things can get messy. The system appears to only give one promo on games per transaction so if you had a few games that you want to go to the percentage bonus and a stack for the "Trade X, Get $X" it will regularly apply the percentage to all of the games. Your best bet is to do all "Trade X, Get $X" games in one transaction on their own. The GameStop clerk may say that the system will figure it all out, tell them you want a separate transaction anyway. As always, check your receipt before you leave the store.

Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
YMMV. The official policy is no, but there are some GameStops that overlook that rule.

What all do I have to trade in for a console trade-in?
Xbox 360: Console Unit, power brick, A/V Cables, Controller (wired/wireless)
Wii: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cables, Wiimote, Nunchuck, Sensor Bar
Playstation 3: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller, USB Cable
Playstation 2: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller (Must be a DualShock2)
GameCube: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller
PSP: Handheld, A/C Adapter
Nintendo DS/DSLite/DSi: Handheld, A/C Adapter, Stylus

Can I trade in a defective/broken console?
For the most part yes. If it powers on but doesn't play games, they will take the console as a refurb unit and put a refurb fee on the console. The refurb fee on the console will vary on the price of the console so those numbers will change. You are still required to trade in everything required listed in the question directly above. They will not, however, take RROD 360 consoles. There may be stores that still do it, but official policy is to not take them in.

How much does an EDGE card subscription cost?
It costs $14.99 and is good for a year. It also comes with a 1-year subscription to Game Informer magazine.

What bonuses come with having an EDGE card?
You will get an extra 10% trade-in credit on the base value of the game and an extra 10% off the purchase of used games.

Does the EDGE Card give me a bonus on hardware trade-ins?
No. You will only get the bonus for games and accessories.

What if I want cash instead of credit, what do they deduct?
If you decide that you want cash instead of credit, they will take 20% off the base values and promos will not apply.

Does promo "....." have a minimum trade-in value?
If the promo has a minimum trade-in value requirement, it will be listed in the promo. If it isn't there, then there is no limit. However, as with all trades, they are subject to manager approval so the manager could have setup his own little rule-set requiring a minimum of whatever.

I used a Power Trade promo for a pre-order, can I cancel that pre-order and get the credit or move it to another game I want?
Yes on both accounts. However, if you do a bunch of the power trades and just straight drop the pre-order you could create some ill-will between yourself and the employees you cancel on.

I just tried to use a promo that has a select list of games eligible, but they say my game isn't eligible anymore, what gives?
Basically they have the right to change the eligible games at any time. They tend to update these frequently so as to lock out any easy/cheap games. It's best to check the eligible list the day of your trade.

Can I stack two different trade-in promos?
No. The only thing that will stack with trade-ins is your EDGE card.

If I pay for an item using all credit on my card, do I have to pay sales tax?
This varies depending upon the state you live in.

What states charge sales tax on purchases paid in full with credit and which ones don't?
Charge Sales Tax on Credit Purchases: Alabama, Arkansas, California, Florida, Hawaii, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Utah, West Virginia
Does Not Charge Sales Tax on Credit Purchases: Alaska, Arizona, Colorado, Delaware, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Dakota, Oregon, South Carolina, Texas, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin, Wyoming
No Information Yet: Connecticut, Idaho, Mississippi, Nevada, New Mexico, Rhode Island, South Dakota

My state doesn't charge sales tax on purchases made by credit, why is gamestop.com charging me tax?
It is just the way they have designed their system. The best theory we have seen is that since you are only inputting the number off of the back of the card, it isn't going to pick up the programming from the specially tagged EDGE cards. Some kind of programming that gets input from their system that wont show up when only inputting the number off the back of the card.

First post contains promo information and the FAQ. Second post has the 360/Wii/PS3 values. Third post has the PS2/GC values. Fourth post has DS/PSP/GBA values.

I wanna know if this is available today as well. I thought i had off work tomorrow, and it turns out I have today off, so i'd like to get this done if thats the case.

Alright, so tell me if I'm correct with this.

Xbox 360 - $100
120GB HDD - $40
Wireless G Adapter - $40
Pokemon Battle Revolution - $25 (Is that promotion additional $25 or just $25)
Two PSP 1000s that will need refurb fees - $90 (Both would get the $25 hardware bonus, right?)
$5 out of pocket

And that all works so I pay $5? Anyone have a good estimate at when they'll be in stock? I saw a few posts the other day but I don't want to fish through these huge topics on the system.

So theoretically i can format a 4gb flash drive, transfer my game profiles and saves to it, then transfer it to new console right? Then i would need to contact microsoft to do a license transfer?

You most likely won't need 4GB just to transfer saves. I've got all my saves (excluding my 1.9GB worth of Fallout 3 saves) and both MW2 map packs onto a 1GB partition. But yes, you can do that, it just takes a while to sort through and pick and choose what is and isn't a save.

That looks about right. Make sure you trade in Pokemon separately since the system often has issues with different promotions on the same transaction. If you have an EDGE card, you can get an extra 10% trade in on your games and accessories (based on base price and not promo price)

1) Does Gamestop take pre-HDMI 360 systems in trade? At full value?
2) I have TWO working 360 systems with warranty sticker. Can I trade them both towards the slim?
Hmm

Console + Wireless controller = $100
Wireless controller = $25
Wireless adapter = $40
120 gb Hard Drive = $40
Wired headset = $5
=$210

I could trade in some games to cover the rest...tempting but I don't know.
Considering you get the console, wifi adapter, wireless controller and wired headset in the trade, depending on how you look at it, you're really only trading a few games in to cover the cost of getting brand new hardware.

1. Yes, full value as long as it's in working condition
2. May require a manager override as seen in the past with trade up promos.

Yeah that's what I'm thinking. Now to figure out which games of my backlog to get rid of...

If I attempt to trade in a broken Xbox 360 and they charge me the refurb fee, how much would I be able to get?

- Video no longer works on my Arcade Xbox360 as of yesterday but audio still works, I believe GPU is fried.

The thing is that my EDGE card expired literally the day that they announced the system... I've got a GS giftcard that's probably going to compensate for the missing $5 and get a new EDGE card. Would that even add onto anything since they're all part of other promotions? The PBR game is on the list for a guaranteed $25 and the network adapter is with the Xbox.

Now, if I were to walk in without the charger for one of the PSPs could they just subtract the price of a used charger from my total? And I'm hearing that this will get in stores Thursday, anyone think that's right based on a date from an online company?

EDGE cards always stack, though only on base prices. So for your HDD, game, and wireless adapter, you can probably squeeze an extra 7 bucks out of it by having an edge card.

Usually they will just deduct the amount of the missing accessory from your trade in, but I'm not 100% sure. Call your local Gamestop and ask for the trade in quote without a charger.

Every gamestop I've talked to has said either Thursday or Friday.

So there is no end date yet?? Because it seems like all gamestops are getting few for their first shipment and will probably be out by the time i get to the store.

Called 2 Gamestops just now. One said they'll be getting shipment on Friday. Another said they'll be getting it tomorrow or Friday but apparently they can't sell it till Monday? Not sure if anyone else has heard about this. Just wanted to share my findings.

That's perfect. I can get a ride there as soon as they open tomorrow. I'll probably buy the EDGE card before I do anything. $5 is $5.

Edge card is $14 I do believe. You pay for the card, and get a "free" subscription to Game Informer magazine.

They can do that if they want to. But not sure why they would do that. Gamestop I called said they should have them by Friday and sell them on Friday.

Ok my Gamestop is getting it around 12pm to 2pm on Friday. First come first serve. I have no idea when I should go. I guess I have to go during the opening and camp in the store next to the line until UPS comes -_-

Edit: Called another Gamestop. They say they might have it during the opening on Friday and the first people in line for it will get it first. He said they will keep track of who is where in line, even if the Xbox isn't there until later. He said it will be there before 12 so I think that place is my best bet.

Looks like I could trade mine plus some crappy games that qualify for the extra $10 for 3 and have just $100 left to come up with. That would be my old 20GB system. I have another 360 I wouldn't mind trading in, but I might as well keep it for a living room system.

Ah, nevermind. If this requires the slim to be in stock I'm probably out of luck. I'm not waiting in line for a system I already own.

I didn't realize you could use Edge for console trade-ins. Is that true? Man, if so I am out a few bucks when I traded in my broken PS3 a couple weeks back.

Anyone know if GS accepts the X360 HDD with the warranty sticker torn off? I replaced the case on my 120GB with my Halo 3 HDD. Wondering if I can switch the cases back and trade it in.
One more question. can i use trade in credit to preorder a game?
Yes
I didn't realize you could use Edge for console trade-ins. Is that true? Man, if so I am out a few bucks when I traded in my broken PS3 a couple weeks back.
EDGE only applies for Game and Accessories traded in. Consoles don't get the boost.

Sorry if this has already been asked, but will Gamestop take a working 360 is it has had the warranty sticker removed? Mine was out of warranty when I got the RROD so I opened it up and fixed it myself.

I'm wondering this too... I have a 360 that works if I keep the Intercooler on it... it works without the intercooler for about 15 mins before it gets a 2 red light. I'm hoping that I can trade it in and have them test it before the 2 red lights happen!

Console w/ wireless controller $100
Wireless Controller $25
WIreless Adapter G $40
20 GB HD $30

why is 120GB HD only $40? i feel lucky i have a 20GB

oh and will i be getting any additional items apart from the system? like a controller? because if i trade both controllers in, i have nothing to play the new 360 with.. and it better be wireless!
It'll be a brand new boxed XBOX - console, hook ups, controller, headset
*gulp* mkay.. and it starts tomorrow or friday ok cool!

Yea I think I'm going to have to pounce on this. I absolutely despise Gamestop, but right now it's shaping up where I'll be getting about $175 in trade in credit:

 • $100 Console
 • $30 20GB HDD
 • $14 256MB Memory Card
 • $15 3xWired Headsets(picked these up randomly, have no use for them)
 • $6+10 3xNintendo DS Games (Just got these real cheap, no value to me)
So it'll be $125 to upgrade from a 20GB HDD, get a wireless N connection, have an HDMI port and go from no warranty to a 1 year. Doesn't seem like a horrible deal to me.

If they test it and notice then yes. The system isn't very perfect with a nonfunctional button.

Well let's hope that means they're fairly confident that RROD is going to be a thing of the past XD.

hey guys, i've got just a few quick questions...

-does gamestop charge a fee for trading in games without a case? i remember a while back i got hit with a few fees for not having cases...wondering if this is still happening?

-whats the deal with transferring licenses on the 360? im considering the 360 deal, but have not idea what people mean when they say transfer licenses...any help?

-this may go with the question above, but if i do the system upgrade, how do i transfer arcade games bought on live marketplace?

thanks guys and gals in advance!

u can just redownload your arcade games on to your new hardrive with your xbox live profile no need to transfer your other 2 questions i'll leave to someone else

Transferring licenses means that you can play all the content in your HDD while offline. If you don't, while you're offline your XBLA titles will show up as demos, and in-game DLC will not work. Also means that if someone else signs on to your X360 they can't access the content that you purchased, unless they sign you on as well.

1. Not sure about that. My guess is no, but if they do it would be minimal. (I haven't traded in actual games in a long time. They're usually rip-offs.)

2. All content bought over Xbox Live comes with a console license that allows you to use it. If you were to not have this, you can still use the content while on Xbox Live, but if you're not online the content is unusable. If you go to Xbox.com you can transfer this license to another console once a year.

3. They will be in your download history so that you can just go and redownload everything. You could also use a transfer cable to make the whole process much easier but you have to have both HDDs at once. I think read somewhere that you can keep your old HDD for up to a week and then trade it in for your money after buying the new console. Not sure on how accurate that is though.

Do you guys think that they will check the volume buttons on a PSP? And I've got this PSP with a severely broken LCD but you can still clearly see that it can turn on. Will they take it?

Ok so this trade in deal does not start till tomorrow? I was hoping to go in today and get it over with lol. I am already going in there to trade in my PSP 3000 (they are giving $105 trade in which is AWSOME) plus I am making a few other trade ins..

You can take everything in now except for the Xbox I assume. That's what I'm going to do tomorrow, just to make sure I get the right prices for everything.

Oh ok, well I know when me and my cousin went there the day we found out about the new one they told us the 360 itself got $105 with the $25 trade in bonus.. hrm. The 20 gig hd is already getting 30?

ah damn, just noticed they dropped the wireless adapter trade in price.

so it would be...

Xbox w/wireless controller $100
120 HD - $30
Wireless G - $24
Wired Headset - $5

$161 is still pretty decent. Especially combined with the $144 in credit i got last weekend on trades. Ugh, I can't decide whether I should just dump it or wait it out. Probably couldn't get a whole lot more on craigslist for it.
