I've received a couple pm's from people wanting to contribute prices but don't want to get harassed about selling to someone or getting more at place x. If this is the case for anyone, you can pm me any values and I'll update them in the list and database.

Also, the CAG Trade-In Value Tracker is now live and accessible from the main navigation.
Instructions on finding games in the database and inputting the values from different sections can be found in my blog post here: http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/blog.php?b=14143. I would put the entire post in the thread but this is already kind of a large post.

PLEASE POST BASE VALUES & SYSTEM IT IS FOR.

FAQ
These trade-in values are really low!
While that may be true, if you combine the games with the right promotion they can work to your advantage. There are knowledgeable people in this thread that are normally willing to help.

Is there any way to look at what the previous values reported on a game?
You can search through this thread and previous ones to see what a game has been reported in the past. With the TIV Tracker you can sort by date and then go through the list of past updated values through that as well. Here are the previous GS TIV Threads: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9.

Can I trade-in sealed games?
No. You might come across the rare GameStop that would let you do it, but they are going to open them anyway.

Do trade-ins have to have their original case, insert and manual?
No, however it will be YMMV on if they charge you a refurbish fee for them in that condition. Most GameStops wont charge a fee but there are some that charge for incomplete games.

Will they accept my game if it is really beat up?
YMMV. It really all depends upon the employee you get. Some will charge refurbish fees, some wont, some wont accept the game and others just take them without a second glance.

What are the refurb fees on games?
There appears to be set prices for set value ranges. We aren't 100% certain on the splits just yet. Here is what we have currently:
$0.25-$2 Value:
$0.75 Refurb Fee
$2.01-$4 Value: $1 Refurb Fee
$4.01-$7 Value: $2 Refurb Fee
$7.01-$10 Value: $3 Refurb Fee
$10.01 & Higher Value: $4 Refurb Fee
This information isn't guaranteed by any mean and we are still working on nailing it down.

I have a Collector's/Limited/Special edition of a game, do I have to trade-in all of the extras?
No, but there are a handful of games that their variations have separate listings at GameStop: Madden 09 Anniversary Edition, Battlefield: Bad Company Gold Edition, and a few others.

Why didn't the percent bonus go for my accessory for a system that was included?
Unless stated otherwise, and they are rarely included, the bonuses never apply to accessories. Except the EDGE card of course.

I traded in a bunch of games for the "Trade X, get $X bonus" promo and it gave me the percentage bonus instead?
I can't give concretes on why this happens. GameStop computers are normally pretty good at giving you the better promo. In the case of a percentage bonus being run at the same time as a "Trade X, get $X" promo, things can get messy. The system appears to only give one promo on games per transaction so if you had a few games that you want to go to the percentage bonus and a stack for the "Trade X, Get $X" it will regularly apply the percentage to all of the games. Your best bet is to do all "Trade X, Get $X" games in one transaction on their own. The GameStop clerk may say that the system will figure it all out, tell them you want a separate transaction anyway. As always, check your receipt before you leave the store.

Can I trade in multiple copies of the same game?
YMMV. The official policy is no, but there are some GameStops that overlook that rule.

What all do I have to trade in for a console trade-in?
Xbox 360: Console Unit, power brick, A/V Cables, Controller (wired/wireless)
Wii: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cables, Wiimote, Nunchuck, Sensor Bar
Playstation 3: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller, USB Cable
Playstation 2: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller (Must be a DualShock2)
GameCube: Console Unit, Power Cable, A/V Cable, Controller
PSP: Handheld, A/C Adapter
Nintendo DS/DSLite/DSi: Handheld, A/C Adapter, Stylus

Can I trade in a defective/broken console?
For the most part yes. If it powers on but doesn't play games, they will take the console as a refurb unit and put a refurb fee on the console. The refurb fee on the console will vary on the price of the console so those numbers will change. You are still required to trade in everything required listed in the question directly above. They will not, however, take RROD 360 consoles. There may be stores that still do it, but official policy is to not take them in.

How much does an EDGE card subscription cost?
It costs $14.99 and is good for a year. It also comes with a 1-year subscription to Game Informer magazine.

What bonuses come with having an EDGE card?
You will get an extra 10% trade-in credit on the base value of the game and an extra 10% off the purchase of used games.

Does the EDGE Card give me a bonus on hardware trade-ins?
No. You will only get the bonus for games and accessories.

What if I want cash instead of credit, what do they deduct?
If you decide that you want cash instead of credit, they will take 20% off the base values and promos will not apply.

Does promo "....." have a minimum trade-in value?
If the promo has a minimum trade-in value requirement, it will be listed in the promo. If it isn't there, then there is no limit. However, as with all trades, they are subject to manager approval so the manager could have setup his own little rule-set requiring a minimum of whatever.

I used a Power Trade promo for a pre-order, can I cancel that pre-order and get the credit or move it to another game I want?
Yes on both accounts. However, if you do a bunch of the power trades and just straight drop the pre-order you could create some ill-will between yourself and the employees you cancel on.

I just tried to use a promo that has a select list of games eligible, but they say my game isn't eligible anymore, what gives?
Basically they have the right to change the eligible games at any time. They tend to update these frequently so as to lock out any easy/cheap games. It's best to check the eligible list the day of your trade.

Can I stack two different trade-in promos?
No. The only thing that will stack with trade-ins is your EDGE card.

If I pay for an item using all credit on my card, do I have to pay sales tax?
This varies depending upon the state you live in.

What states charge sales tax on purchases paid in full with credit and which ones don't?
Charge Sales Tax on Credit Purchases: Alabama, Arkansas, California, Florida, Hawaii, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Utah, West Virginia
Does Not Charge Sales Tax on Credit Purchases: Alaska, Arizona, Colorado, Delaware, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Dakota, Oregon, South Carolina, Texas, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin, Wyoming
No Information Yet: Connecticut, Idaho, Mississippi, Nevada, New Mexico, Rhode Island, South Dakota

My state doesn't charge sales tax on purchases made by credit, why is gamestop.com charging me tax?
It is just the way they have designed their system. The best theory we have seen is that since you are only inputting the number off of the back of the card, it isn't going to pick up the programming from the specially tagged EDGE cards. Some kind of programming that gets input from their system that wont show up when only inputting the number off the back of the card.

First post contains promo information and the FAQ. Second post has the 360/Wii/PS3 values. Third post has the PS2/GC values. Fourth post has DS/PSP/GBA values.

So how long does everyone think it'll take to see used slims in GS? I get employee discount from my girlfriend, only towards used consoles though. And does the trade in promo have to go towards a new console?

Yeah - I'm not doing ti for the promo that they're doing here. If I could do it for $130 or so, I would and just return the $90 Wireless N adapter I bought from Dell. If it ends up that the $25 bonus is still on, I may consider it.
The promotion price is 120gb hd - $40, Wireless G - $40...you get the promotional prices when buying the Xbox 360 250gb (slim).
oh cool... good to know...

so that bumps it up to $187. That might seal the deal for me...

So the promo only bump up the accessories?

what about the value of an xbox 360 console with no hdd and wired/wireless controller trading toward the slim?

Kind of confused on the Xbox 360 Slim trade promo..

Xbox 360 core console w/ wireless controller - $100
20gb HD - $30
512mb memory card - $18
Wireless G adapter - $40
Wireless controller - $25
Total - $213

Does that look about right?

Not sure why I'm seriously contemplating buying a 360 Slim when I haven't yet upgraded from my 40GB PS3 to a Slim PS3. Seems like the 360 Slim is much more of an upgrade over the previous model than the PS3 Slim.
The new 250gb only has 1year warranty. Just letting you know :)
All 360s have a 1 year warranty. The 3-year warranty was only for the RROD and E74 errors. They haven't said explicitly, but I'd imagine those issues (if they still exist) would still fall under the same warranty umbrella on the new consoles.

Wow. Just checked back to see everyone hyped about this promo.

Again, the trade promo does not begin until TOMORROW. If you want the promo TIVs, you have to wait for tomorrow.
You can take everything in now except for the Xbox I assume. That's what I'm going to do tomorrow, just to make sure I get the right prices for everything.
If you want to trade in stuff for the new xbox it has to be at the time of purchase of the new xbox. Otherwise I would be trading in my stuff right now too.
Camping my ass. I'll be showing up at like 11:45. That's what I love about West Virginia.
Ha.. I'm in Charleston.

What is the trade in value of a 360 normally? I'm assuming you don't get the extra $25 hardware trade in with this.

After edge and promos came out to 146.42. Not bad I guess for all that stuff I had laying around. Have around 207.00 in credit thinking bout getting new 360 not sure yet.
Tomorrow only for the Gamestops that have them tomorrow right?
Precisely.

Also guys, don't expect GS to have these at opening. The manager across the hall has to wait until UPS comes, which usually is anywhere between 11 and 1 for us in the mall. I expect other GS stores will be like this, as well.

time to make jp actually do some work again!

TIV from today:

:360:Street Fighter IV- $3
:wii:Madworld- $2.50
:ds:Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's Stardust Accelerator World Championship 2009- $6.25 (Hell of a title)

got $22.92 after the trade 3 promo.

also found out values of two other games to update the OP, both for DS:

Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney- $5
Disgaea DS- $4.50

I just called my GS and they said they don't know when they're getting them and they didn't know about the trade in promo yet. He just knew about the extra $25.

Damn dude, the prices you got for some of those 360 games is horrible, even with the $10 bonus :(

Is there any reason to even worry about transferring the license if my 360 is always online? I'll lose a few XBLA games that I have from a "gameshare" with my friend but I only play maybe 1 of them still anyways.

I don't wanna work!!!!

The way people are making it sound, can you trade in your console without the HDD and then trade that HDD in separately and still get the $100 credit for the console trade in?
The way people are making it sound, can you trade in your console without the HDD and then trade that HDD in separately and still get the $100 credit for the console trade in?
Yea the $100 trade in credit is only for the system, a controller and the power and a/v cables.

The $100 is for the console...the HDD is an additional credit. Again, the extra value you get for the HDD and any accessories is at time of purchase, so if you trade afterwards, you won't be able to get the promotional value.

No word from GS on the $100 Slim trade up deal yet. I saw a response on twitter:

@GameStop: You have any trade-in offers trading in old 360s towards the new model announced?

@... E3 just annc'd this product. No specials at this time; but they are currently available for $299.99

So how is this deal ongoing?

I hope this promo lasts for a while. Since the 360s will be sold out for a while most of us are screwed with the promo--since a system has to be instock for the promo to work. I wish they'd let you trade up if none are in stock and just have your credit get applied towards the reserve.

Maybe I'll swing by my store this weekend and see if I get lucky, pack up my 360 and leave it in the car until they DO get a system in.

Just unloaded a bunch of games, all for 360

Hitman Blood Money - $7
Fear Files - $2.50
Wheelman - $7
50 Cent: BotS - $7
Blitz The League 2 - $5
Lost Odyssey - $7
Chronicles of Riddick - $4
Banjo Kazooie - $6
Terminator Salvation - $5
Rise of the Argonauts - $5
Quantum of Solace - $3

After all promotions and stuff (but before the $100 trade in 360), I have $193 in credit, so it looks I'm getting a slim. Just not sure what day I'm going to do it.

I just sold my 20gb launch console on Amazon for $160 ($150 profit with amazon commission cut), but the trade in value for wireless adapter, memory cards and extra wireless controller are very nice through this trade in promo.

But eventually buying the new slim model through Amazon is till going to save me $30 in tax alone compared to Gamestop.

Still nice to see a decent promo from gamestop instead of taking advantage of gamers. Good luck to all tomorrow.
So what's the deal with the accessories? Is the bump in credit only when you trade in a system also?
I believe so my friend, it states TOWARDS THE TRADE IN VALUE FOR A NEW XBOX360 SLIM.

I got excited for a bit as well, thinking i could walk into GS and trade in my extra white controllers and useless memory cards and walk out with cash lol.

Funny thing is no Gamestop manager is aware of this promotion in the chicago area....so if they didn't get the email, and there is no ongoing promotion...i'd be surprised if this is accurate.

Why would you NOT do it? It is so easy and it allows anyone on your console to play them, not just your profile. Plus you don't have to be connected to the internet to play them in case one day your connection is flaky or whatever.

One stupid question - I have an Arcade I'd like to trade in but it locks up (no RRoD) after about 30 minutes of play - does GS take non functioning 360s? I don't want to lie to them and tell them it's 100%.

I wonder if the 25 dollar promo still works with the 100 tiv. It would be nice to trade in my old pro console and a few games to shrink the out of pocket cost. =D

It will not stack. Promos don't stack & never stack.

No, GS is actually going to honor the HDD promo trade-in up till 7 days after time of purchase as long as you have the original receipt because they know everyone is going to need to transfer data.

May I ask the source of this info? That would be awesome.

I just got back from gamestop. I am pretty tight with the head manager he told me they recieved an email this morning saying EVERY gamestop is getting JUST 4 in.. And that they will come in either tomorrow or friday.. They also got 12 phone calls when I was there asking about it.. Needless to say my cousin and I are camping out tonight for it :)

My gamestop in eastern nc has heard of it. Maybe you all city slickers run things a bit differently than us poor old country folk.

What will happen if I imported all of the Rock Band 1 songs into my Rock Band 2 library and no longer have the RB1 disk. Will they transfer over with the rest of the data and DLC songs?
No, GS is actually going to honor the HDD promo trade-in up till 7 days after time of purchase as long as you have the original receipt because they know everyone is going to need to transfer data.
So would they just refund us credit? Or would they give us our money back? I'm assuming it would just be credit...
I honestly think a lot of people are being 'greedy' with these new "Slims." If you have a console that works fine, why not be content with it?
I'm very happy with my Xbox, but I would love a black one that's quieter and doesn't have a disc tray. I wanted an Elite for the longest time but I wanted a Jasper Elite and they weren't around in December of '08. Most X360s have a problem like I had where it scratched the hell out of a few of my games because of the vibrations from walking around or playing with my dog. I haven't had that problem since because I've been more careful, but I'd still like a new one.
