Gamestop's "New" Games

My last "new" purchase from them came complete with a sticker covered box and label AND a whole isht ton of finger prints on the disk. Maybe they should gut them BEFORE lunch?? I would have exchanged it but it was the last copy and I paid dirt for it anyway, whatever.

It makes no sense to me though. Just do what most places do, put out a few boxes and put the rest of the sealed games in the back? It is a waste of time otherwise. It takes up extra room in the store to gut them and stash the boxes in the back anyway.

I went to a gamestop yesterday to get 3d dot game heroes, they only had the gutted copy with fingerprints and scratched when the girl behind the counter saw this she changed the price to used (new was cheaper then used). I said no walked out and went to another gamestop. I asked for a sealed copy and she said do not have any. Then to a third gamestop, where the Manger said unless you pre-order do not buy from us. I will be doing that.

I have a newer GS near my work that's about 2 years old. The Manager pretty much told me the same thing. If you want a new non-gutted/factory sealed game, pre-order or buy when the game was just released. After awhile, those new games will eventually get gutted.

When I was a kid and an Electronics Boutique opened in my local mall, I remember buying a couple "new" Genesis games from them. They were the last copies, so they took the case off the display shelf, pulled the games out from the counter and the instruction booklets were copies in black and white! That was my first experience with this type of practice.

When these type of stores accepted returns for full refunds (seven day return period?), they would shrinkwrap them back up and resell them as new. I bought an Xbox game from an EB Games once with no Microsoft security stickers and a very amateur shrinkwrapping job, like what you'd see at the grocery store when they shrinkwrap cuts of fruit.

The last time I accepted a gutted copy was back during the original Xbox days. But fortunately for me it turned out to be a rare game so I got all my money back selling it later on.

So far none of my online orders from Gamestop have been gutted copies, and they've only tried to give me a gutted copy in store once in this current generation of consoles... even though there were still sealed copies left.

I went to get Halo 2 at an EB Games on the day it came out and they wouldn't sell me a copy because I didn't pre-order it. So I went across the street to Best Buy and bought one of their 10,000 copies. Will never pre-order from Gamestop now.

In their defense, they make very little money off of new games. Thus, for the longest time, GS/EB pretty much got enough initial copies to cover their pre-orders. Can't really blame them. If a game ends up not moving well, they just have stale product taking up space. The last couple of years, though, I haven't found any issue getting a new game at GS around release without a pre-ordered.

I also don't pre-order at GS, but simply because there is no reason to. They almost never have any kind of deal. All you get some useless trinket or in-game item no one cares about, like a costume or variant of an already available weapon.

I personally like my local Gamestop that has a Growlanser Heritage of War box that looks beat to hell and marked NEW for $39.99 or something crazy like that.

Yeah. I have seen this at my Gamestops also. Also that Growlanser game sucks. Balls. Seriously. I think I got through half the game and stopped playing it because it was boring and dumb. The Working Designs Growlanser games were AMAZING!

*grins* I've gotten to the point where I read amazon reviews religiously and look for the youtube vid before buying anything. Helped me obtain Generations and Atelier Iris Eternal Mana while steering away from the anime ruf$$$e.

Edit: Thank the automated censors for pointing out that there's a $$$ in ruf$$$e. Okay, roughage.
