There has been some discussion about that on the GameTap forums. You may be able to join by just becoming a free member, but I'm not totally sure. It does say No Purchase Necessary, after all.

Yah i used to be a paid member, but not for about 6 months. I just used this link: http://gametap.eprize.net/adrenalinerush and i did not have to sign up for anything premium.
