garage and home insurance

I'm planning to add a one car garage to my house. Has anybody done that recently ? Just wondering how much that adds to my home insurance costs. Thanks for your feedback on this.

I'd be more concerned if your local municipality lets you add on the garage or not first. There are many places where the garage has to be detached from the house, etc...

Thanks for the inputs. I’ll look into both. Don’t claims gets settled faster if you have a local office around?

Not at all. It's going to be a case by case basis. Regardless if there is a local office or not, your insurance provider is going to have to send someone out to survey the problem, etc, in the case of your homeowners insurance...

Check with your home insurance company or in your neighborhood. That would give you a much fairer idea on what to expect in terms of permissions and prices.

yea, when i was growing up, the city almost threw a fit because my grandma wanted to expand it a few more feet.....


make sure your city allows it to be built first!
