gba baclight mod trim pod issue

i have a gba with an asg-101 backlight mod. at first it was super bright. after a few weeks it got dark. Ive heard adjusting the trimmer potentiameter would help. i hought it was a screw, and it was in so tight that i accidentally broke the metal pad off. so i tried adjusting it with a safety pin. now its super bright and the colors are all messed up. 

lets say the screw on the little trim pot is a T. the flat part on the T broke off. The horisontal part. There is a little of the bit of the vertical bar sticking out, but not much. Can i unsolder it and put in a new one? if so, what kind do i use? or is there an easier fix? or am i just screwed and do i need a new gba? thanks in advance.

Anyway, I want to replace the shell/housing, but confused about this part:

This kit does not includes the hinge cover and volume control buttons.

Isnt the hinge shown in the first picture on the right side? My GBA SP is the lighter blue model, but like the gold.
