Metroid Prime is the worst overrated game of all time. Autoaim? Drab boring Textures? Headaches abound? No thanks. I hated Metroid Prime so Much I sold that piece of shit to France. And I doubt Metroid Prime 2 was any better.

Now back to gears. :D lovely.

Anyone know if the CE is worth it? I can get the CE for the full retail price 69
or wait for my family video order 45......

My feelings exactly about Metroid Prime. I couldn't believe the scores it received from the various gaming sites and magazines, and the praise from gamers. I'd never played a more over-hyped game.

And wow, GS rated it higher than IGN! I hate being one day late to the party. GoW tomorrow =/

My GS told me I could pick it up today as soon as they open.

Now they say tomorrow at 10:30 AM. I called 5 other GS/EBs and they all said the same thing.

What the fuck? Some store has to be selling copies today.

Yea this is ridiculous. Games need to come out with some system where they release on tuesday or wednesday like CD's and movies and not just ship on random days.

If we all knew there was a set day and not that some would get it today and others tomorrow I don't think people would have as much problem waiting.

... all week CC has been telling me they were going to get it yesterday, and I wasn't able to pre-order it because it "was too close to the release date"... even though they let me pre-order COD3. So they told me if I wanted the face plate to come in FIRST THING this morning... and guess what, they didn't have either. They said they'd "probably" be getting it in at about 2. FOCK... I woke up early for THIS?!!!

And on a more retarded note, Cars came out on DVD today... I saw copies of that at EVERY STORE I checked!... Game companies need to take note of something.

They come out on Wednesday. Nintendo games come out on Tuesday. Movies and CDs get shipped in advance of an arbitrary date, games come out immediately. Why they didn't ship them after manufacture is beyond me, but it's how it works. We know this in this hobby by now. Stores had copies of Cars for over a week probably sitting and waiting for today. I'd rather have my game ASAP instead of it waiting for a magical "release day".
 
LAWL! okay, so I called an Ebgames, and they said they are getting it at around 5 or 6, okay no problem, here is the conversation:

Guy,"Hi this is EBgames where you can preorder Halo 3 and get 20 percent more on your trade in games, how may I help you?"

Help1," Hi, umm, so Gears of War, are you by any chance getting it in today?"

Guy," Yea, did you preorder?"

Help1," No."

Guy."Well, we are gettign the game at 5ish, so you may want to come down here and preorder it, and then pick it up later today, cause we are getting it today, unlike Bestbuy or target."

Help1," Hmm, I don't think I have the time to come to the same store twice in one day, you think I'll be able to snag a copy? Without preordering?"

Guy," Yeah if there are extras, sure, but you can get 20 percent more on ur tradein games if you preorder!"

Help1," Nah, thats alright, so you say around 5? So like you SURE that you'll have it by around 6?"

Guy," Yeah."

Help1." Bye!"

I have a feeling they wont have it today.
 
GS pisses me off. Calling them, they just say "wait till you get the automatic phone call".

Well that doesn't tell me dick. And if I drive around today and see it for sale, I'm buying it. GS can stick its preorder up it's ass. I preordered the CE, but at this point I will take the regular version today over the CE tomorrow.

Your business is strictly video games, you better fucking find a way to have a game this big as soon or sooner than everyone else. Or you won't be getting my money.

haha... hopefully. Only thing that really sucks is that from about 4 on, I have stuff to do... damn it for being my bud's 21st and having to drive an hour to seattle to celebrate! haha... I also have to teach a web design class before that... and have about 4 hours of design work that I should do RIGHT NOW... meh, I guess the anticipation is just killing me. I know that the rest of the week will be awesome, just that I have SO MUCH CRAP to do today.... which is why I wanted to get a few hours in this morning.
 
But you get 20% extra on your trades and you can preorder Halo 3 AND IT COMES IN A HELMET, A ACTUAL HELMET!

lol my EB guy was creaming himself yesterday as he did his whole preorder speech.

I agree, they should get rid of the "Ships ___" BS and just make all games available on one specific day of the week just like Movies & CD's.
 
Damn I don't know if I should get this for the co-op or not since its a little on the short side. Hopefully I'll get some good versus impressions from people soon.

Most of the year was pretty weak though... we've been getting a shitload of good games since September.
 
Just picked it up...ahhhhhh....touch it or not? Also have COD3 they got in, but havent seen any reviews on it. I think ill pop it in to watch the intro and update my gamercard but im goin on co-op on hardcore setting to unlock insane tonight around 6pm EST...then off to MP. COD3 will be opened when i see some reviews

I got mine. After hearing from Pimp and zew that their stores said tomorrow at 10:30, I decided to call mine. Expecting to hear the same thing, I was surprised to hear him tell me that they had them in without me even having to ask. I went down there to pick it up. Store was empty. There was one other guy picking up his LE copy, and nobody else in the store. I think they got them in way earlier than they expected. They 50 versions of both the regular and LE, easy. Now I gotta go play it.
 
Damn... I want to get it but free faceplate I can sell for a good chunk of change > paying full price and playing it early.

Being a CAG is a curse :(

The CC faceplate blows and I doubt it would get you any reasonable cash on eBay.

The Saints Row one was getting $20 - $25 while the game was still hot.

Hell, even after all the hype from the game died down I still sold my Saints Row faceplate for $15 on Ebay. ($5 more than it cost someone to buy it from CC).

I'm fully expecting the Gears of War faceplate to follow this same trend, no matter how much it sucks, because the Saints Row faceplate sucked hard as well, and people are going to be high on Gears of War fever.

And shit, they might just put it on the receipt as GoW for $50, faceplate for $10, at which point I'll return the faceplate and not even deal with Ebay.
 
My helpful EB employee said "All I know is that they're driving up from LA." It's about 2 hours round trip from here to LA, so I'll give them another call later this afternoon.

PS - am I the only one who makes accented voices when I call EB so they don't think I'm a tool for calling more than once in a day when I walk in the store?

That's on you, zoglog. The game will be the same. It's not like those who get the CE will watch the bonus DVD every day. It's nothing like Lord of the Rings special Extended edition. Take cars and shoes for example. I don't give a rat's ass about special edition car this, limited edition shoe that. You can shoe me your $200 Michael Jordan shoes unworn and mint and I'll show you my adidas samba that I currently wear everyday.
 
Anyone in Texas have any luck? I ordered from Family Video but I'm considering jumping on it now to get in on the online while everybody's still on the same level and then swapping them out whenever I get it in the mailbox.
 
Some impressions: (Spoilers)

  • Active reloads are pretty damn easy. I'm not exactly sure how it works yet though. After you do it successfully, there's a flashing number of bullets. The flashing only lasts a limited amount of time. It reloads a helluva lot faster if you get it though. I love it. I got 5 in a row and 25 total without even knowing there was an achievement for them.
  • Multiplayer is really fun. Like amazing. You really have to work together with your teammates and take it slow. I'm not really a fan of the whole one life thing, but it's growing on me. You get to hold four guns. You can exchange them for other weapons you find on the map. You can't change nades for guns. The chainsaw is deadly, but I see myself staying far away and taking people out that way instead. The curbstomp is more fun for me than the chainsaw. :D
  • Some minor gripes: You can't duck unless you're leaning against something. It's something I'll get used to, but for now, feels weird. Holding the 'A' button to run kind of makes it so you can't run to the left, because you have to use your thumb for both. I'll get the hang of it, but for now, it just feels weird.
  • It's no Halo, but it's not supposed to be. It's different and fun. I can see myself playing it for a long time. I can't wait to play some co-op.

After all these years, you would think people would realize that, most of the time, you won't be getting a game on it's ship date, no matter if you pre-ordered or not

yeah, I suppose. I'm wondering if it'll be worth even more later on though heh, though I have a feeling it'll end up just like the halo 2 limited edition.

Does anyone know if CC will let me return the game without the faceplate?

The receipt will probably be set up to not allow you to... I'm certain it'll charge you $50 for the game and $10 for the faceplate.

Kinda like how their last sale where they give you x-men 3 with marvel ultimate alliance, it charged $20 for MUA and $40 for X-Men 3.
