Gotta tell ya, folks, if the Wii wasn't coming out next week(ish), GoW would seriously tempt me to plunk down $460 for the whole shootin-match. Looks amazing! Enjoy it! :)

Maybe the 360 will see a significant price cut in the next 18 months and I can pick it up then.
 
I've never had a more satisfying expierence in gaming (over live), then when I rushed to cover, peaked out for a moment to lure a guy over to me and when he was close blasted his body in half with the shot gun :D
 
Can this game be more addictive? I popped it in last night around ten to play along with spectreon and before I knew it it was 3 a.m. I know that we can't make a comparisson to Halo 3 seeing as how it is a year away, but for all you Halo fanboys you can keep your measily little H1&H2. I own both current gen Halo's and they don't even stand up to Gears, regardless of the shooter genre they fall into. Halo is the dominent FPS on the console, but I think the future is OTSS. Hopefully, Bungie includes and over the shoulder view, because if you think about it how else can you improve on just Master Chief. If there is going to be a Halo Killer Gears is it and they have already made me forget about Halo 3, but only time will tell. Even if Gears doesn't come close to Halo numbers, it brings a breath of fresh air to the shooter genre.

edit// Also I started a seperate thread about Dom, but Trakan (Halo Fanboy; at least his signature would lead you to think so:) ) closed it because the question asked could have easily been placed here. Anyways here is my question for all you Gear heads:

So I've made it through to the Gas Station in Gears of War and man am I annoyed with Dom. Does this guy even have a brain. How do you all feel about Dom?

Dude, I'm thinking the exact same thing. I'm trying to justify buying both since I haven't been into hardcore gaming in quite a while (And I do miss me some good deathmacthes).
 
BUY IT...ok so now that that is out of the way lets just give a simple quick review b/c its a must have game that you have to play to believe. Graphically its like playing oblivion on steriods but in an FPS...when you get a sniper and zoom in you see more detail than you can possibly imagine. The Mp is raw and gritty and Execution is THE MODE to play as you can revive downed teammates before they are Chainsawed,curb stomed or shottied to death, until one team is eliminated.

The chainsaw is always satisfying weather your doing it or your teamate screams and you watch it happen as you try to save him and then his voice cuts out b/c he dies (awesomely funny) the weapons are well balanced and the cover system rules your booty. The run move is superb and takes getting used to b/c you need to dodge objects so your not pulled into cover. Last night and all day there wasnt even a hiccup of lag (on my server at least) and its pretty easy to find friends for ranked matches. 3 or 5 rounds to win is excellent 3 is super tense and five is like a war, any more than that seems over done.

The co-op is hands done a shiny work of art with so many memorable scenes you have to play all the way through with someone and its worth the price of the game alone.Dont bother with the "casual" settings its too easy, go right for hardcore (it unlocks all "casual" achievements anyway) this game is a system seller, a talk about game, and just soo much fuckin fun you'll lose sleep over it.

What ever you think is cheap as far as weapons go disappears as there is strategies to evade, dodge, or just plain stop people from getting that weapon as the gun placement is almost more important sometimes than knowing the map (youll see when you play) The maps are super easy tp learn and in about a 4-6 hr session you should know them all precisely. This game is a 10 any site that says otherwise is fuckin retarded...end of story.

One thing to remember with the chainsaw, as my "tip O the day" is when someone is getting chainsawed you cant stop the animation just shoot at someone else till the animation is over or your wasting bullets and your gonna get worked.

,mannnnn I ordered the CE from walmart for 60$ anyone know if they ship it within a decent time frame? I might get the CE at eb when I pick up COD3 and just return walmarts copy to them.

I honestly have to say that I was not hooked until the Berzerker part. The game went from very good to fucking great in a very short time frame. And I haven't even tried out any multiplayer yet.

Honestly with any other title so far i could find a flaw on any game on any system this one just has it all, some may complain you can run and get pulled into cover.They however just need to learn to guide themselves better during the running...hell i can run all the way across maps. Again this is GOTY nothing can beat it not Zelda, not anything. Yes i do want Zelda as well...the PS jab is b/c there isnt one game for launch thats even remotely a must have game
 
multiplayer is the tits.

having someone one your team say "Check this out, I'm gonna Hammertime his ass!" while a laser comes down from the heavens turning your opponent into a pile of red soupy mush is priceless.

You havent seen anything yet but yeah that shizzle was AWESOME....im over half way done, but playing it co-op on Hardcore and you cant really play it with a new partner without restarting from scratch or him going to where you are currently....so i stick with someone for co-op. MP is just like co-op its perfectly awesome

My one complaint so far: Notifications cover up the text at the bottom of the screen that coincides with what the characters are saying. Not a big deal, since you can still hear them, but I tend to always read the dialogue as well. Just another case of them not putting the notification in a good spot. I don't want to turn them off, but I wish Microsoft would give us the option to put them where we want them for each game.
 
Best part of the game in MP has to be your teamate getting chainsawed...goes like this:

"Oh shit im getting chainsawed help me gu......"(dead mic) seeing it happen and not being able to help makes it even funnier

True, but you have to admit if thats your only complaint something is too hot to handle, and its GOW ;)
 
It's good to hear that everyone seems to love it. I should have my copy this evening.

I always worry when a game is hyped as much as Gears of War is that it might be a let down.
 
First off if you let people get the Hammer Of Dawn then you deserve to get hit with it,only Rooftops you cant block them from getting it, but then again they cant stop you since its in both spawns. If you read my review knowing where the weapons are is more important than the maps,for this reason alone, wether its the hammer or a sniper or a GL. As far as graphics about half way through the game there is a forest and its raining and everything is wet and there is lightning....graphics are fuckin sick!

This is exactly why I don't play Halo Multplayer, or counterstrike. I am not interested in getting to know the game to that detail in order to be competitive.

How ive got to play zelda and ive seen the launch list for PS3...what is missing? Again its my opinion, remember its a forum not law...thats saved for judge dredd ;) but if im wrong id be surprised on GOTY b/c its between this and Zelda thats a definite
 
What are the chances we can start another thread for spoilers? Damn it, I don't want to read some of the stuff I have read in this thread, but I wan't to discuss the game.

Maybe that's impossible. But either way, someone please put a spoiler alert in the title if we aren't making a new thread and I'll bow out of the thread until I have the game and finish the campaign.

Hmm... I guess I'll try picking it up today at lunch but I won't get a chance to play it until Friday night because I have to work until 11 p.m. tonight and tomorrow... I can't wait to try it though!!

It's tiring to see people comparing them as much as they are. They're both shooters, they both have aliens. Other than that I don't feel many similarities.

All the Best Buy's local to me have this game in... they've had it in since 10:30 am.

My Circuit City has it but "won't sell it until 5 pm". fuck them.

Just buy it at BB, do you really want to wait until 5pm to play this marvelous game and all because of a free faceplate that you might not even get because they've run out or whatever excuse? Besides then you have to go through the hassle of selling it on Ebay and all this just to save a few bucks? Trust me my friend, this game is definitely worth the money. I would've paid $100 for this game, it's that damn good. (In my opinion at least)

The bonus disc is not worth it, but the artbook and the metal case tin are.

Does the metal tin contain the actual game case and whatnot? Or does the disc sit in it like the Halo 2 LE?
 
Maybe Halo had more of an impact on me because it was the first game I played on my brand new Xbox and that was the first console I bought in the last gen. I realise comparing Halo to GOW is comparing apples and oranges.

It's more the Wow factor I was thinking about. I got it with Halo and Half-life 2 but with GOW I felt, it was ok, not great. Maybe I was expecting too much from it.
