You are telling us the obvious. Why don't you load up the game on Insane and try your face shot tactic against Raam by yourself. Dom gets downed within 15 seconds after which Raam's focus is all on you. What will you do with a sniper rifle when Raam is less than 3 feet away.

When I get to that part on Insane I will report back. Not to brag or anything, but I am quite good with the sniper rifle. And I was being sarcastic about the cole rap, I think it was meant to be a joke and I found it funny. Plus I like the Charcter Cole.

anyone have a save get corrupted?

i just load up the game to find that insane is no longer an option, all my cogs are reset to 0 and the controlls went back to default. the weird thing is, it still resumed at the same place i was at last.

im pretty pissed though, it makes me not want to play it anymore.

any tips on beating RAAM on Insane. having problems beating him with my roommate. We use the torque bow and sniper strategy but he keeps rushing us.

Forget the sniper rifle. Don't "continue" but instead, reload "Pale Horse" chapter. That way, both of you respawn with bow and arrow. Have one of you grab the arrow ammo and that's 18 arrows you have total - that's a shitload.

I posted it on page 91 of this thread. Here's a link to my post:

It's quite long but I wanted to be as specific as possible. You might even want to play on Casual and explore the surrounding first to see what the hell I'm talking about. Then switch back to Insane.
Im still waiting for maynard to accept my FR so i can kick his arse

I finally broke down and picked it up tonight. I know how all of my free time for the next month is going to be spent.
If by any chance you picked it up at CC, try to get a price adjustment this Sunday.
Got to RAAM on Insane last night. Should I go it with the Torque Bow, or Longshot (sniper) ?
Forget the Longshot entirely. Use the Torque Bow exclusively. If you have good aim and are quick, with a little luck you'll impale RAAM with all 12 arrows as he's about half way to you. You need to put a bit of charge on the arrows, but don't charge them fully; it takes much too long and is a waste of time. Once you've depleted your arrows, blind throw grenades and blindfire on him with the Lancer whenever the kryll leave. I was able to kill him on insane without ever leaving my original concrete slab.

Nah, I was fortunate enough to find it used (Complete!) at GS. I had a few cheap fodder games to trade in, so it only cost me ~$20 out of pocket.
This thread is massive! I ordered a 32" LCD to play the game in HD, and I can't freaking wait. How awesome is the difference between standard and HD for this game, anyone?
I play on a 32" Sharp Aquos in 720p and it looks fantastic. You'll be happy.

Now that everyone's had time to explore multiplayer (except spooge who is late to the party), what do you all think about frag tagging?

I think it's a legitimate tactic, certainly not scrubbish or noobish. I believe that it's not the fact that people don't see it coming but it's that people cannot do much about it eventhough they got the drop on that mofo. The tagger doesn't get interrupted if he is shot. In fact, he interrupts the person he is tagging! Not only that, but the melee distance is ridiculous. Add in the fact that there is no friendly fire, and voila: brokeness.

I don't really have a firm stance on the grenade tags. When it's the only kills a guy gets AND he brags about how many kills he gets, it annoys me. It doesn't show any skill to just tap a button when you're right next to someone and get a kill for it. With that in mind, if it's down to a 3-on-1 scenario and the 1 guy has grenades, it is a very good idea to use the grenade tags because you have the chance to get a multi-kill out of them (usually in 2-on-1's or more the group stays together). Then you have to add in the fact that some people are doing it just so they can get the achievement, so it's not really the way they'd choose to kill you in the first place. As long as you're not making yourself sound like a god at Gears with your grenade tags I'm cool with it and I think it's a cool part of the game, but compared to sniper headshots, shotgun headshots, Hammer of Dawns, and even chainsaws, grenade tags are minor league.

i hate grenade tags. well, i hate when theres one guy and thats ALL he does.

i also hate how there is pretty much no way to deter them. if someone is charging you, you have to hope for a shotgun headshot or else it's over.

that being said, i love using the shotgun... i get surgical with that.

Grenade tags are annoying. What I really hate is being in a pretty confined space and having someone charge you with grenades out. There isn't a lot you can do rolling around, because you will just stick to walls and they can usually tag you before chainsaw distance.

What's really annoyed me lately online is some players that pretty much just use the shotgun exclusively and just charge at you full bore, only taking cover if they take enough damage. Then if charging doesn't work, they just camp or sneak around the map to gib you from behind. Gets old.

It's not countering the shotgun that's hard. It's getting your team to nab the long range weapons, and sit back to camp for the shotgunners who are expecting you to be roaming the middle of the map like usual. Unless you are playing with advanced players, rarely will you ever hear someone suggest to play defensively. It usually just becomes a Halo frag fest once one team is losing. Yeah, reloading in the open, roaming the map with a shotgun by themselves, trying to headshot without zoom when the opponents are in shotgun range, those kind of Halo shit that does not belong in GoW.

No, shotgun is not annoying. It's those people who communicate with you and play well. But the second the team is losing, it's like they just totally take off the headset. You can't even get your teammates to stick together anymore. To them, they don't care about winning anymore just because they are getting owned. Mind as well go play hopscotch...oh wait, people win in hopscotch. They mind as well go each shit.

Not to flame you but I hate noobs who cry about tags...sooooo many ways around it.... shotty OR get stuck and wait 2 secs then start chainsawing (requires practice), you dont die b/c it explodes during the animation ala invincible, active relaod sniper downs them to in one shot....FACT is any weapon is a one shot or hit kill so who cares? Hell the sniper is AMAZING you active relaod and its one hit to takedown or you can snipe someones head off...the bow is one hit plus the melee is SUPER fast, the G tag, the shotty roll or the chainsaw or the boom or the hammer...hell even the pistol. Only scrubs dont know how to stop it sorry.

Hey, keyser, I've never thought about the whole get tagged, wait 2 seconds, chainsaw tactic! Sounds like a very advanced and useful tactic. Holy shit! After thinking about it for 10 seconds now, it should work!

One qualm: but every tagger always jumps. WOn't it be too far to vaccuum them in?

Regardless, I'm going to try that shit out later by myself on split-screen.

i'm not crying. i expressed that i hated them, a small complaint that was less than a couple of sentences. i didn't whine, bitch or moan or throw a tantrum about it. god forbid i express an opinion that differs from yours eh?

and i didn't even say i hated them, i clearly said i hate when it's all one guy does. it gets old when you're playing a player match game and you have the same guy over and over doing the duck running and tag.

If they run at you just hit em once with the shotgun when they are running at you and then again once they are closer. They either explode or go down. Its not really hard to take down a guy who just keeps on using the nades and does the same thing.

The only thing I think thats unbalanced is the meleeing. If you get hit you should have more chance to get away. It seems like only a few times it works when you jump backwards to get away.

THe best thing is for them to roll away b/c thats the 2 seconds that you need to be in invincible mode during chainsaw a smart tagger walks foward but s rolls backwards to juke out opponents also the other move to watch out for is the crossbow smack its the fastest in the game and never smack with the shotty the second smack doesnt register for some reason, also for "advanced games" pla with FF on, then again most people cant handle it and leave b/c hammer, nades, and bow kill your team alot

Much to my dismay, either

1) it's programmed so you cannot perform that invincible chainsaw to survive the tag

or

2) the timing is just-frame, similar to Tekken's ridiculous Paul or Lee just-frame moves (the time to input the command is like 1/8 of a second).

Either way, I don't care about learning such chainsaw techique (even if it does work) to survive a tag because it is simply too hard. I'm just glad I've got a new arsenal to add to my game.

That's the only thing?

Meleeing is ridiculous. The window of time to get away is SO minute you're as good as dead after the first melee against someone who knows what they're doing.

Grenade tagging - the minimum distance needed to tag someone is ridiculous. They should fix it so you have to be closer to the enemy.

Chainsawing - Who knew chainsaws on Sera had vacuums in them as well?

I tried it a couple times on split-screen. I think the timing is probably too strict. I just get in the chainsaw but I still die before the tagger. More info on timing would be nice.

You have to have it to a science unless they roll and you roll at them holding b for the chainsaw basically since they took the 2 secs to roll after the stick you roll into them chainsawing and the tag blows up in the middle of the animation instead of the end...you need to master it its quite hard to accomplish

Sorry double post by accident oofff
Meleeing isn't that bad. All you have to do to stop them is blindfire or melee back with a faster gun.
Hemce why I said watch out for the crossbow smack since its insanely the fastest and i sometimes just do that for all the rounds to prove it

Well I have concluded that I suck. I can't count how many times last night I shot someone 3/4 times with the shotgun, zoomed, just to have them one shot kill me with their shotgun in response at the same distance. It gets really old.

People say the shotgun is the best defense to grenade taggers, well it isn't for me, because I only gib someone with the shotgun maybe 9/10 times. I can shoot them 3 or 4 times as they run up to me and plant a grenade on my head .

Zooming with the shotgun is situational. If they are also zooming, meaning they won't easily strafe out of your view, it's safe to do so for added precision. Zooming is also good when they are about 10-15 feet away and you can sweep them and keep them in your window eventhough they are strafing or rolling. If you are behind cover, peeking out to zoom and shoot works wonders too but watch your head - they can still kill you shotgun vs shotgun up close. Once the fight is closer than 10 feet, don't even bother zooming or he'll just strafe right out of your window. You better practice blind firing.

Shotgun altercations rarely last longer than 3 seconds. Be quick and strike without hesitation. Don't dance around him, strafe and fuck with his mind, let him fire a round and nick a shot on you or totally miss you, then you go in for a point blank gib shot. There is a lag in which the next shot can come out. That's your drop.

Don't look at your character, look at the middle of your screen and imagine that red omen (damage) sign there. Put your opponent in that area. I sucked at the shotgun because I was being too precise. You can't play precise with the shotgun, you gotta play dirty because it's a dirty weapon.

EDIT: Find a friend to play with 1vs1, shotgun battle. That's the only real way to get better because in a real game, you don't have time to practice.

Kickass, bring on the addons! Unreal Championship 2 got a crapload of first party, free, addons after it was released , was great. Definitely feel like my $70 for GoW was worth.

I don't mind frag (grenade) tagging at all. Most of the recent multiplayer games I've played, little to no one was using frag tags. I usually run into players that just use the shotgun/roll technique or flanking/chainsaw. In the case of the "Mansion" map, I've run into teams that go for the Grenade Launcher first and use that to take over, or teams that grab the sniper rifle on the top floor of the house immediately.

I am currently halfway through Act 4 on Insane. Damn, this game is still fun. It's becoming almost a game of cat and mouse with the Theron guards on this difficulty setting. :)

I finished the game on Hardcore a little while ago thanks to Nintendo Kid who helped me out beating RAAM. Time to start playing on Insane.
so is this game better on live versus multiplayer or single player campaign??
The Multiplayer. The single player/co-op is more like a bonus.
so is this game better on live versus multiplayer or single player campaign??
It's hard to say which is better...I thoroughly enjoyed the single player. The different locations, the different difficulties, the level designs, the car and mine cart sections, finding COG tags, all awesome awesome stuff. Playing it with a friend via split screen or co op makes it that much better.

MP - still great stuff, but a few kinks they really need to work out. When you have a good team, who actually communicate and work together, it's hard to beat GoW's MP. But playing with people who barely know how to play, or don't talk, or playing against people who "abuse" the game's flaws (chiefly nade tagging IMO) take away from the experience. Also the only mode that's really fun to play AND requires teamwork is execution. Assassination is meh, while Warzone is OK.

I'm in the top 8k on Warzone ranked. I've got about 100+ kills with the pistol.
Just a word of note, that attacking someone with the pistol and downing them via shooting or pistol whipping won't net you a pistol kill. Yes, you heard right! You actually have to kill 100 people with a pistol headshot to get the achivement, and you'll also get the headshot achivement down the road to. This kinda sucks. I got the curbstomp, chainsaw and execution achivements easily though. The only one thats gonna take forever besides the 10,000 kills is the hammer of dawn achivement.

Funny, a friend (non gamer) came over last night while I was playing and he said "oh I read an article about this game, I heard the single player is cool but short and multiplayer sucks"

This is the only strategy I've found that worked solo on Insane, though I used the shotgun in place of the Lancer. Thanks for posting it, it helped me a lot!

Not true, I'm in the top 1000 of Execution and I went to play Warzone to get the pistol achievement. All you have to do is knock the other play done and be a "rolls" length away from the downed opponent and shoot him in the body until he dies. It will also count as a pistol kill.
