It has never been proven that downloading caused a loss in cd sales. In fact most people who do download music end up buying more music because of it. While this may of caused a shift from commercial music to smaller indie music thats not a bad thing.

But go ahead gobble up the RIAA's shitfest. Just dont be suprised when they turn on you next.
 
The idiots defending Simmons with their holier than thou because I never downloaded music should be straight up banned from CAG. How can you call yourself a cheapass if you're willing to pay for something that many (intelligent) artists today are willing to give you for free. Next you're going to be calling us sinners for watching music videos on youtube.
 
Richlough, I think you missed the topic creator's point entirely. What he's saying is that since the advent of the internet and easier means of distributing music(READ: legal ways of downloading like itunes and Rhapsody), artists need to find ways like that to distribute their music. For instance, a lot of hip-hop artists nowadays get their money not from singles or record sales, but ringtunes. It's things like that which force people to adapt to a their situation.

fuck the RIAA they hate artists just as much as they hate illeagal downloaders.


They are the main reason why the music industry sucks. its not downloading music. they fuck artists rights,trying to lower their royalties(which of course would make downloading an accusation),arrest the wrong people(DJ DRama),try to fuck promotional campaigns and even with false praise saying its ok(trent reznor's marketing for his NIN albulm)..shit i could go on. Its why the music industry is struggling...because of record execs and dumbasses who run that shitstorm. Greed is a bitch to deal with and when they drive away their money makers..they will soon learn their lesson.

yes, the RIAA is using junk statistics because they aren't showing how much paid music download sales have continuously increased. They haven't showed how mp3 ringtones which can even exceed CD sales have increased exponentially.

I thought copyright extended 80 years after the death of the artist?
