General Gaming Thread #13 - As Linear As Final Fantasy 13

I really want Deadly Premonition... but I just wasted $160 for a DVD boxset. And this month is also going to be crazy. Maybe I'll grab a copy next month? Also it looks like GiantBomb will be doing a Endurance Run for the game which makes me extremely happy.
Not yet. Sadly I'm lacking a 360 to play it and I dont feel like importing it. It does look amazing though.
Not as amazing as GOWIII.
At least that had more of a tone. But yeah, I say its a matter of taste for XIII. I still have no pull to it but I do see how others will like it.
what the heck do you mean by "tone"? I don't think that means what you think it means.

FFXIII isn't atonal

taken from websters since the internet is so literal its scary:

Tone-
distinctive style;

so yeah, I'm fine with that meaning.

ffxiii certainly has a distinctive style

nomura style. People with spiky, gravity defying hair with belts, zippers, and serious-as-shit looks on their faces. Futuristic cities.

aka the same style as Versus.
3 year old girl picked up a real gun the dad left on a table(that was loaded and no safety), and the kid shot themselves.
They are blaming the wii because it has plastic guns.
What the fuck? Yeah, Nintendo's the one to blame for the dad's irresponsible parenting. I hope that they do not get any kind of settlement or anything out of Nintendo.
Yup. :applause:

Your PS3/360 games have a new breath of life now.
YES! Man, I have never seen such amazing resolution in my life... I just hooked up my HDMI and everything's so ridiculously vivid and gorgeous. I threw on L4D2 right quick to see how it looks and it looked phenomenal. I'm watching the Watchmen Ultimate Cut now (Lawl, blue HD penis!) and I swear it didn't even look half as good as this when I saw it in theatres.

I can NEVER go back to SD!

NGS2's install only lasts 8 minutes.

My FFXIII faceplate shipped from BB. Don't know when it'll get here though. It might get here before the actual game the way Amazon's been acting with stuff I've ordered from them lately.

Dude, that shit is so hot. Zippers that don't actually serve a purpose and are randomly placed. Neon colors clashing with cold hard earthtones. Spiky haired effeminate dudes, other weird hair styles. Belts everywhere.

Basically, gaudy ass 80's shit style is back.
I'll need a coop partner eventually -- add me if you don't mind playing along. :)
I'd be down for that.

Ive been waiting for this moment for all my life. Seriously im hyped, alot.
So I have been playing Uncharted 1: Drake's Fortune and it is becoming a bit of a snoozefest. I am trying to finish it but it is a pain. And the completionist in me is wondering if I will be able to bring myself to go back to get all the trophies. It started out boring, then it picked up the pace and became quite fun for a bit, not to mention nice to look at, then everything went downhill. It is the same thing over and over again, the same enemies, the same scenery, the same weapons (basically), the same simple platforming that I could do blindfolded.... seriously the original Mario Brothers had more challenging platforming and I beat that game with a broken arm when I was 10. I am about 61% through and would have been fine with it if this game was half as long as it is. Is Uncharted 2 the same way or did they mix up the levels more? If it is more of the same I think I will definitely have to pass on it. It's too bad because I think I could have loved this game. I loved the original Tomb Raider. But this game just has no sense of awe for me, just wash, rinse, repeat.
Well the game got interesting again after
the part where you go underground
although I am still tired of having the solution to every puzzle spelled out for me even with the hints turned off (what the heck does the /hintson feature do... auto play for you?). Totally a love/hate relationship with this game. It is still a fun game but it could have been alot better.

Yoshi's Island is damn good. I'd put it third on my favorite platformer list behind Super Mario World and Super Mario Bros. 3.
I'm more partial to Bubsy
3D
I'm really happy for you, Sonic 2006, and Imma let you finish, but Bubsy 3D was one of the worst games of all time, OF ALL TIME!!

Beating up on Nomura kinda feels like an overdone thing these days, but...

You know what? It's deserved, god dammit. The first time I saw the art for Lulu

Doing a Google image search for a Final Fantasy character is a terrifying experience, by the way.
, I was sure it was a parody. I'm still not entirely convinced it's real. Is it... is that real? To steal from Yahtzee's complaints about Darksiders' protagonist, it looks like Nomura started drawing and just never fucking stopped.

EDIT: Also, fuck y'all Bubsy 2 was alright.
Also, fuck y'all Bubsy 2 was alright.
I was stuck with a PS1 that would die playing every game or not even load them up, save Bubsy 3D, which a "friend" let me borrow. I played that shit for 2 days, and had enough. Game was trash.

Go play it, I triple dog dare you. :bouncy:

Don't forget buff, dark skinned men exposing some part of their chest for no reason.
If the gun was loaded w/no safety where the kid could just pick it up and handle it...that is really not the Wii's fault.
BS. It's the Wii's fault, it trained the kid to shoot himself. The parents should never let him play "Wii Shoot Ourselves!"

Finished Bad Company 2, started Bad Company 1. BC 2 was good, but how did I miss BC1? That game is awesome so far!

BC2 came in the mail today. Multiplayer is pretty good, although I've crashed back to the dashboard twice already.

I need to play Yoshi's Island again. I keep recommending it to my friends who love SMB3/SMW but have never played YI.

God of War 2 is more epic than I remembered.

i like how Yoshi's Island doesn't work in any emulators, so you have to buy a snes or the inferior gba version (washed out, more pastel graphics, worse sound)

Super FX 2 chip ain't nothin' to fuck wit!

I guess I was all wrong about Metro 2033.
I thought it was a big, open world rpg/shooter ala FO3 but the review I just saw say it's very linear and 7 hours long.

Here's a pic (not mine) of my local "flagship" Gamestop.
They went all out.

Looks like the PS3 copy gives you a FFXIV item and chance to play the beta.
360 gives you some avatar items.

Pretty sweet, if I do say so myself.

So...doesn't that mean that the only FFXIII related item in the overpriced bundle is the FFXIII sticker on the hard drive? Because the faceplate was a pre-order bonus and not part of the bundle. Laughable I say. Laughable.

Is it just me, or is GGT going much faster lately and also filled with a ton more random comments and less discussions? Just thinking... maybe it's just my life... and the fact that Chili's earthquake lost us .2 seconds of our day.

I also went to the midnight launch, got my brothers their two games, guides, plus free stuff. Got the faceplate for $5 (reserved a game, so technically I got it for free since I'll be picking the game up next week), I also managed to get one of the big promotional FF13 boxes, plus my Lugia figurine. Yay to being an ex-employee =) I do have to say, I hate when Im one of the only girls there, because there are some wierd guys and they don't stop talking to me. Boo to my bf having work early tomorrow.

All the better to get to 500 my dear bear.

I ordered ME2 yesterday from Amazon. But since Amazon didn't give me my credit for FFXIII, it was $40 and not $30 :bomb: slow ass Amazon :bomb:

Anyone have a FFXIII avatar item code they don't want?

I squeezed in a playthrough of Portal last night. GLaDOS was really fucking irritating by the end. And those turrets repeated their small library of phrases way too much.

i slept through the midnight launch. Will just get it later today.
