General Gaming Thread #13 - As Linear As Final Fantasy 13
No. Only Jer is allowed to do this.

Well, here's my FFXIII drama:

Went to Target to get the game (FFXIII) this afternoon, about 3pm. Shelf was empty, so I asked a clerk. It was this fat dude with a perm and three-inch thick glasses. I thought for sure this lard-ass nerd could hook me up, but he laughed at me, spitting saliva into my face thru the huge gap in his front teeth. "Damn, we were sold out at 8am, noob! GTFO!" he said (or something like that). So, I kindly asked him when they were expecting their next shipment. Dude went to check, then he fucking disappeared. I waited for almost fifteen minutes before flagging down another employee. This chick was a 40-something mom who weighed more than my first car. She told me the lard-ass nerd dude just went on his lunch break. I just rolled my eyes and went to check the 360 shelf. Sure enough, the shelf was full of copies of FFXIII. So, I snagged up a copy of the 360 version. Haha, I don't own a 360. Now, sometime this week I'll have to go back and try and exchange it for the PS3 version. I feel like such a looser.
Why not just go to another store and get the PS3 version...
Didn't know so many girls were into cartoon porn.
Hentai time is alone time.

I started FFXIII...it's good, but it would be better if it used a battle system like in
Star Ocean

The game pretty much feels like it's playing itself so far.

It won't feel that way for long. I've put a decent amount of time in, and if you're not on top of that shit you will get raped.

As much as people are enjoying FFXIII right now, I've been slwoly watching Resonance of Fate stuff over the past few months and I think the GT Preview vid finally has me sold.

It seems like an RPG I might enjoy. I hope so.

I feel the same way.
My favorite part of FF13 so far is when Lightning
Apologizes to the door.

My fav part of FF13 is when
Lightning punches Sazh and pwns him

Lol agreed. She gets quite aggravated and upset really easy. I will say it took me about two hours or so to start to really get into FF13. Now that I have; I had to force myself to take a break. It's very pretty, and the battle system is starting to open up a lot more, which is great. Story is pretty decent as well, and the no town thing doesn't bother me at all. It is quite linear though, which is really my only complaint thus far. To everyone that is playing it, who are your favorite characters thus far? For myself it's Snow and Lightning.
On PSN or XBL?

Ill grab it in a sec if on XBL
Japanese XBL.

Lightning is definitely my favorite followed by Sazh.
Sure am.

Amazon copy gets here Friday, but I have a GS copy waiting for me tomorrow.
I can't play yet though, need to finish the second game, which I'll do before the weekend is over.

Those were my exact thoughts when watching that video. Loved the eating scene too.

So I played about 5 hours of FF13 last night. Love it but fucking hate HATE HAAAAAAATE Hope.
I also want to do dirty nasty things to Vanille. Liking the battle system, not liking the level caps.
Lightning just seems like a bitch so far not quite sure who my favorite is. Anyone else notice that snow has nothing on the back of his jacket, but in battles some he has stuff on the back?
hoooly shit, the battle system is so awesome once you get paradigm shifts.
Are these better than whatever the system was in 12? I forget what they were called at the moment... :|

The gambit system is what FF12 had, and these shifts are way better. Basically you change the jobs of your party members on the fly to addresses the situation on the battle at the moment.
Yes its way better. You still only control one character at a time, but the whole game playing itself is basically over. Once you get later in the game if you dont pick and choose your attacks wisely you will get your ass handed to you. Staggering becomes a necessity, and its way more strategic then FF12 was.

a bajillion times better. Not nearly as time consuming, not as many variables, and easier to use, though just as necessary.

Paradigm shifts made me think of the limit break type attacks that you could hopefully chain to hell and back to level cities... it sounds like the gameplay is more like 12 than 4-10? I'm disappointed already, since I hated just about everything about 12.

Its not really like 12 at all. You dont hover over attack and let the game do everything for you.
You actually have to think while fighting.

But it's more like 12's open world always in combat than anything turn based/menu driven, right?
But it's more like 12's open world always in combat than anything turn based/menu driven, right?
No not really. You see enemies on the world map, and then it cuts away to the battle system. The battle system is all turn based menu driven. Its fast.

it's not turn-based, it's the same ATB that has been in past FF games. Except this time it's stupid fast and requires some reflexes. The only way it's like XII is that your party members act on their own, depending on which job they're using. You can use an "auto-battle" choice which queues up attacks and moves (though you still pick which enemy to attack), or you can choose on your own.

Hope restored. Maybe I'll try to power through the rest of 12 so I can check out 13 after GoW3.
I've been playing on Titan (Hard) and it's definitely more punishing than Titan on GoW 1/2. Depending on the situation, you have to make use of different weapons and abilities or you're dead. Much deeper than the first 2 games. There's times when you literally need to hold back in taking out a certain enemy with a finisher so you can use their context sensitive actions against other enemies. You definitely have to make use of the parry/counters quite a lot.

And there's no way that they should be able to do some of the game in real-time, and I mean the playable stuff, not just the story scenes.
CAN'T. fuckING. WAIT.
:whee:

Just picked up FFXIII and I'm dying to play it! They had it set up in my Wal-Mart and I was looking around while getting my oil changed and saw it up so I started playing and I got fucking hooked hard. I picked up the PS3 version insteasd of the 360 version I was playing, though.

Neither of us had. I only had tried the demo quick... I never even tried it when you let me borrow it.

I think Sony will be focusing on the their new motion controller system. Reports of attachments, software, perhaps a general launch timeframe? Anyway, I'm looking forward to hearing what they have to say.
