General Gaming Thread 8: The ACTUAL Mass Effect 2 Edition...

I haven't finished Arkham but I had much more fun with UC2 than with what I played of AA. With AA I could only play a couple of rooms at time. UC2 I put in multi-hour non-stop sessions.
PS3 Bayonetta is much more bearable after the patch. No more load times in the items/weapons/pause menus, and it doesn't take 45 seconds to load a new area anymore, closer to 20.
That's good.
Hahaha. Not even close.
Good game? yes.
Game of the year? maybe if they spent less time tacking on multiplayer and focused on the single player, they could've done something amazing. Like Rocksteady did with Arkham Asylum.
Pish posh!
MP was fun, co-op got intense, and the SP was near perfect.
Damn I love it.
The GTAIV episodes have been announced for PS3 and PC, set to release March 30th, 2010:

Cool, glad I held off.

Uncharted 2 was good but I had more fun with a lot more games last year. The climbing mechanic, when used out of combat, wasn't really necessary and just felt like a strict pacing tool. I can see those sections being very boring on a 2nd playthrough for me. But that's just my opinion. A lot of people liked those too.

Batman, ODST, Dragon Age, Assassin's Creed 2, SF4, RE5, NSMB Wii all topped uncharted on my 2009.

MP doesn't work for deathmatch. Nothing feels right. Bioshock needed a multiplayer mode more than Uncharted did. The coop was a pleasant surprise, but if I want to play horde mode, I'll just pop in Gears 2. The deathmatch felt clunky to me... i played my one match to get the trophy and disregarded it further.

I'm with you on Batman and AC2... RE5 no way. That was the biggest clunker of the year, probably. Horrible sequel to RE4, what an immense disappointment for me. I can't comment on DA or NSMBW or even ODST (though I'm not a Halo fan, so I probably wouldn't like it)... SF4 was classic SFII to me well, classic with a couple new attacks or the idea of ultras and ex moves imported from other entries in the series -- it might have ranked higher if I hadn't scooped my eyeballs out with a melon baller to avoid looking at the artstyle.

And you're right about UC2 and the climbing -- I would've shot myself in the face if I was forced to play additional playthroughs without the fast movement cheat. Especially bullshit like making me climb the fucking train again.

fuck yeah! finished No More Heroes 2... now I'm jumping immediately into ME2.

I'll be honest and I don't think the rest of the year will have a week with such as good releases. All I need to do is play TatsVs.Cap and maybe Mag and I'll be good.

I hate that last boss. It took me forever to beat him.
The fact that the boss can basically prevent you from doing a damn thing for the rest of the fight really sucks when he only has 1 bar of health left and you have full health.
Hmm, the more I read about White Knight Chronicles, the more I think I should skip it for now and play Dragon Age instead.
Sounds like a good plan to me.

Somehow I forgot how MMO-like it was supposed to be, and that doesn't interest me too much. Then I dug up the old RPGFan import review and found: "Nevertheless, it’s still very skip-able for people with a long backlog of games to get into." Which is really all I needed to hear. I'm sure the US version is going to be better than the import, but I'm not sure they've fixed the main complaints.

I want to be able to take my time with DA:O, and I've got 3 weeks until Heavy Rain. I think that comes out to 60-ish game hours.
It comes out in between Mass Effect 2 and Bioshock 2. It's not happening for me.
I'm unconvinced about Bioshock 2, I don't know why but I have a nagging doubt that it's not going to be as good as the first one.

Thats not helped by things like one of the devs basically admitting they didn't have enough time to make a "fully developed multiplayer element" (or something like that). So basically they've shoe-horned in multiplayer which will be dead about 2 weeks after the game is out.

Shoehorning is better than focusing on, as bad as it is.
How good would The Darkness have been if they REALLY focused on the mutli... it still would've never taken over the demographic held by Halo/Gears/COD games. So if was just something tacked on at the end, great ... unless there's a bunch of bullshit achievements.

If they only shoehorned multi into Bioshock, that means a majority of the development time was spent on single player. Which hopefully means the game will be good... though like you, I have concerns, it's more about the story, which I just can't get into. :(
I really need to finish Bioshock. I got about 1/2 way through it and just stopped.
Me too, and I've owned it forever.

:whistle2:(

Started ME2 last night and put about 6 hours in. Loving it so far. The combat is MUCH improved, I don't miss the cumbersome inventory system at all. Story is good, graphics are amazing and not plagued by the slowdown and other issues of the first games.

Only nit picks so far would be that the planet scanning kind of sucks, and the load times are still pretty bad. Especially annoying when you want to reload a save (got renegade points by mistake, save before a hack to reload it if you fail etc.) and it takes 30 seconds.

But those are very minor, having a blast so far. Mission wise I got through all the opening stuff and completed the Professor and Archangel Missions. Spent time exploring the ship and talking to everyone etc. Will take my time with this game and try to do everything like I did with the first one.
I'm still buying WKC regardless. Have my copy preordered..
Of course you would. You've made it clear that you enjoy all the horrible JRPGs.

I kind of want Bioshock 2 and Dante's Inferno. But thanks to picking up a stray cat, car repairs and less hours at work I don't know if I can justify buying 2 more games. Especially when I have TVC and No More Heroes 2 waiting to be opened...

WKC isn't horrible! :nottalking:

I watched the online overview video last night and now I'm even more excited. I had no idea people could visit your "online town" even if you're offline.

Seems like a good number of CAGs plus a friend of mine are getting so 4 player questing here I come. Haven't played an RPG in forever.

I had Bioshock 2 pre-ordered but realized I haven't even started the first one.

And the new game annoucments... So glad Mistwalker is alive, even if their next RPG is on Wii. The Mikami game is odd, but then again, it was just an outsourced CG trailer. And a new Xeno game, but not that interested.

whoooa, Omega is awesome. Love the atmosphere. Reminds me of going into the seedy Taris underground or the club Vampire Bloodlines. The writing and VA are actually pretty damn good in this game when you aren't talking to someone who's filling you up with techno-babble.

of course TMK would love WKC (is making fun of this guy still in vogue or am i dating myself here...):

this is like every rpg ever. I don't even need to play to hear their whining about their stupid existential crises.

Except most rpgs use different faces for each character, unlike the "boy" on the left and the girl on the right.

I'm pretty skeptical of Bioshock 2 as well. Loved the first one (again toss up between it, ME and Oblivion for my favorite this gen so far), but I'm skeptical about the direction they're taking the sequel.

Hope it turns out great though.

And there are multiplayer achievements, if you're looking for more proof of a misplaced focus.

My god, will somebody stop developers...er publishers from going CRAZY with these Preorder bonus' and DLC. Jeesh, God of War 3 is announced to have Slurpees at 711 with codes for ingame armor.

In a few years from now I'll have to go to at least 100 different places to get half of the game.

Thanks for all the advice, Frost! I went back just now and re-did the end of ME2 and everything went perfectly as I wanted.

Even ended up hitting 30! I think I'm done with ME2 until the next DLC comes out, now.
Isn't the multiplayer being developed by a different team?
Yeap, it seems Digital Extremes was working on the MP for Bioshock 2

I will have to get a fucking slurpee now. Damn them. Damn them to hell. :(

I guess you could just buy the Slurpee for just the cup, but I hate wasting food, even if it's not good for you. >_
Isn't the multiplayer being developed by a different team?
The entire game was made by several teams. It's a patchwork game.

So the former creators/makers of Final Fantasy are working on a game called The Last Story?

I live near some 7-11 places.

Anyway, I can't believe some think Ninja Gaiden II is hard. I'm playing Sigma 2 right now and already on Chapter 13. Most bosses I beat on the first try, unlike the first NG that I struggled at.

Sigma 2 is definitely the easiest Ninja Gaiden game, even on Path of the Warrior. Path of the Mentor is standard Ninja Gaiden difficulty, though. Path of the Master Ninja will automatically kill you in the first 20 seconds of starting.

In terms of comparing Sigma 2 to 2, 2 is A LOT harder.

This. NG2 will assault you. And fuck one hit kills in NGS2.

I really want Mass Effect 2, but I'm waiting on it. I'm patient, and a nice Steam sale on it would be pretty sweet.

I've bought 2 things on PC this week. This trend is becoming disturbing. But $2 for Psychonauts and $5 for S&M Season 1 were too good to pass up.

I still haven't put in Demon's Souls, but I need to finish Fallout 3 first.
TMK, sell it to me when you're done.
Unlikely.

Safe bet is that he will trade it to gamestop for pennies on the dollar. :(

What? It doesn't seem feasible that a city built under millions of tons of crushing pressure at the bottom of the ocean, that was leaking like a faucet ten years ago would remain habitable despite no one being around to maintain it?

I get it, we didn't see all of Rapture in Bioshock. That said, shit was wrecked in every part of what we did see, there's nothing to suggest that all of the city isn't similarly run down. Look, part of the tension of Bioshock came from moving around in a world on the verge of complete collapse and ruin. Making a sequel set in the same city at a later date makes Rapture seem impervious to the elements and takes out that tension.

I'll rent it or wait for a GOTY version.
I always wonder how often stuff is taken out or held back out of games for DLC purposes?
as often as there is DLC. Some people seem to think that, ethically speaking, companies should develop DLC after the game is out, but that obviously makes no business sense...so they probably come up with aspects of the game that can be DLC while planning it.

There are few DLC items that seem like they wouldn't fit into the original game. Shivering Isles maybe?
