I'm not banking on it, that's why I'm asking. I plan on getting the pad (I've got almost no experience in the Arcade at SF), but if I could get the Stick at that price, I'd reconsider getting it.

That's the non-premium one.

The Fight Stick tournament edition is still $150.

I think that RE made a good transition from one type of scare to another. And it's also very logical and more "zombie" like kind of scare.

In the old RE games the scare came from running out of supplies and your own inability to avoid enemies. (and shock value)

In RE4/5 the scares come from atmosphere and the relentless tenacity and numbers of the undead. In RE4 I still ran out of ammo sometimes, but the RE5 demo was very tense because I felt like these enemies were coming from everywhere, slowly, but surely getting in the cracks and overwhelming you. Even though you're capable to fight and have ammo to shoot back, there's two zombies for every shot you take, plus some big fucker in the background that isn't going down anytime soon.

I prefer the latter, but the former RE games weren't bad, until they got way too overdone.

Also that demo was likely dumbed down- they don't want people getting scared off.

If the difficulty is problem, then playing on harder difficulty probably would fix dallow's problem.

I know I was freaked out when the chainsaw dude in RE4 took a swipe at me and WHAM- right here leon's head is on the floor.

I love the RE series. I like the fact that they changed it up for RE4. And I'm super stoked for RE5.

My February pickups are SF motherfucking IV probably for 360, though I want that PS3 CE badly, The 360 TE stick, and Sonic Genesis Collection for 360. I actually want the PC SFIV, but it's not coming until June, and I'm willing to bet money that the 360 SFIV will have better online than the PS3 version.

I remember getting some new speakers for my birthday and playing RE2 on them cranked up. Shit was thunderous. Good times. :)
I'm really hoping Dead Space is similar though there is a lot of firepower in that one.
Dead Space, from what I've seen and heard from my roommate, is more like the older RE games. You do get lots of ammo at times, but he typically got ammo for the guns he didn't give a shit about, so he found himself really preserving ammo, which made him appreciate the game a little more.

Then he shouldn't carry around the guns he hates. In Dead Space You only get ammo for the guns you carry.

Yeah, for me it's more that survival horror has just never really been my cup of tea so I should probably just stay away. Which I am, I dropped Dead Space off my Goozex queue after playing the demo and will only play RE5 if my buddy picks it up and wants to do co-op.

So I don't expect the games to change, it's easy enough to just avoid genres you don't care for and spend limited gaming time on games you have fun with.

Though I do still fail to see why the RE games can't include a difficulty option as I'd be more likely to play for the experience if there was an easy setting with more ammo, less damage etc.

I just finished the new Fallout 3 DLC. This quest focused more on combat. So if you hate the combat in the game you'll probably want to skip this. I enjoyed playing the DLC and felt it was worth the money. But the strangest thing happened after the quest though
After I collected my reward three of the Brotherhood Outcast soldiers went crazy and killed the Scribe as well as their superiors... it was just strange.
Sooo close to being finished The Bourne Conspiracy. There is so much awesome!
That reminds me I need to pick up the The Bourne Triolgy on bluray. Target has it for $65 and I have a %10 discount there.

Some of the members don't like the fact that you're getting a share of the armory, so they rebel.

Ah, I must have missed that convo. you'd think they would have went after to me right after opening the vault. It was a good minute or so after the vault opened before they did anything.

Well said. That sums it up for me in a nutshell.

As for the scare issue, I thought the older RE games were scary. They had lots of moments that made you jump or were just creepy.

RE4 and RE5 I didn't find scary--they were more just tense and stressful as you were often overwhelmed by a lot of enemies.

I'm curious about how the hell the new F3 DLC fits in, since it's not a continuation of the storyline -- is it like the GTA4 DLC that's completely separate or do you use your maxed out hero to play it? :whistle2:s

I agree with this. RE4 wasn't scary at all. I didn't find Dead Space scary either. I don't scared by things popping out, running out of ammo. The only games to ever "scare" me are the Fatal Frame games. Mostly because of how fucked up the stories are.

You scare too easily then... The only scare I ever had while playing an older RE game had nothing to do with the game itself. It was my friend who decided a great way to tell me he woke up was to scream in my ear JUST as dog busted through the window.

I just finished up the main quest of Fallout 3. Took me about 17 hours with a few side quests thrown in. Great game, easily my GOTY 2008. However, I don't understand how I will be in the DLC since I kinda
died at the end.

no it was not dumbed down...its just how it plays.

hard mode is still easy (well for me anyways)

looks like im only getting KZ2, Onechanbana, and SFIV TE stick for this month...i might pick up the ps3 sfiv ce but its looking bleek atm. Now for march...DW Gundam 2 for ps3 and ps2 !:D

I wasn't shaking in my boots, but the games were designed to have those "make you jump" moments out of cheesy horror movies with dogs jumping through windows, zombies popping up all of a sudden etc.

The only game I can recall that scared me a bit were some parts of FEAR that were creepy as hell. The school in the FEAR 2 demo would be a good example. But that's more creepy than being scared per se.

But I haven't played a lot of "scary" games as I hate survival horror game play. Clunky controls, lack of ammo, lack of items. I just find that annoying and frustrating and I play games to relax so the genre just never clicked for me.

I loved the RE5 demo, it was very tense and freaky at times.

I love the atmosphere when its just you and your partner slowly walking around a building with all sorts of nasty shit remains on tables and whatnot. Then a few minutes later you have 20 zombies coming at you through windows, doors, ceilings, and busting down walls.

Very exciting, and the control style makes it more human feeling.
For those of you that played Professor Layton, did you feel that some of the puzzles were ... "unfair"?
In what way? They do mix up the easy ones with the hard ones, so I guess that's kind of a cheesy way to make the game more "difficult", but the game does give you a fair number of hints, there's no time limit, and you can always use the save system to preserve your progress should you get tied up by the "wrong" puzzles.
RefusedChaos, have you heard the new Mastodon tune? it's pretty sweet. Is there a firm date for Onechanbara yet?
Onechanbara - Feb 10 $40 for 360

ah no i havent..worth a listen?

Awesome, I've been waiting for Onechanbara since I got EDF way back when it was released. The new Mastodon tune is great, but they could put out an 80's synth pop record and I'd love it. You'll like it if you like them.

Onechanbara is really an awful game. but I know that won't convince anyone who is already set on buying it. ;)

Gonna keep on playing Valkyria Chronicles tonight. Finally an SRPG that doesn't feel ridiculously overwhelming! And damn, it's impossible to not like Alicia Melchiott.

I get pretty freaked out by the horror games also, but I think that's part of the appeal of them. I LOVED RE 1,2 & and 4. After the 2nd RE, I had a hard time playing any of the others,I got burned out on them after RE 2(classic) but when I got around playing the RE4 demo the love for the series had returned. I'm looking forward to 5 for sure.

I generally don't like scary games (I have several Silent Hill games and all Fatal Frame 2 but haven't played any of them) but I've never really found Resident Evil scary. Creepy yes , scary no. Exception being the first time I played 2 , which was because that was the first Resident Evil game I had every played. I have Dead Space on my gamefly list but hope I won't wuss out if it gets sent to me.

I don't know why someone can't like the old style resident evil games and the new style ones. I've been playing through the REmake and enjoy it despite the old style design. Still need to play through Zero , CV and finish 4 though.

Question , what are the chances that Capcom will pull a twist and reveal that Dead Rising and the Resident Evil series are linked?

I don't think it's that folks don't like the "old style" RE games, just that they don't necessarily think that Capcom needs to go back in that direction for any of the new games. At least, that's how I feel. :p

I don't know about RE being directly related to DR, but then again, I gave up on DR before I could finish it. >_
Scary games?

Why is nobody mentioning Condemned???
Condemned was most excellent. Maybe one of the scariest games ever.
Scary games?

Honest mistake. Have both Condemned games but havent played either and am kinda nervous to do so.:cold:

Since I missed the fun about the beat-em ups , I'll just add that while I would love to see a port/remake of the old Simpsons/X-Men arcade games if only so I could relive the nostalgia , I would also love to see ports of the capcom D&D games since I never got the chance to play them. I did play one of them a little since my local arcade got one of them in shortly before it closed down but never really had the chance to get into it.
