Genji: Dawn of samurai 19.99 at bestbuy.com or B&M

Not sure if I wanna get this game. I mean, I don't really care about price, I'm more interested in whether or not this is a game worth owning.

I just bought today for $15ish plus taxes and i am very happy with my purchase....... rather waiting another 6 months or over. Also, to let you all it's onsale this week at Bestbuy only cuz most of the stores still have it for $40ish.

I thought Normal mode was too easy great at this price though try hard mode, you can't find weapons nor level up the only way to get weapons and level up is collecting those pieces and the 100 kill trial.

thanks OP. Have heard a lot of good things about this game, other than the graphics. They also have a DoubleJump Guide book out for it, and I know they tend to do excellent books for great games, so it can't be bad. Will pick one up soon.

For all those that keep wondering, it has a 77% ranking over at GameRankings.com from 51 media outlets.

IGN and Gamespot both gave it 70% (just about give or take 3 percent)

and Game Informer gae it a 85%.

Ivan reviewed it @ IGN, and he's an idiot. The game is awesome, and after playing the game & re-reading his review it's obvious he's just not a fan of the genre. Would be like me reviewing the next Gran Turismo game.

And I'm not sure what problem people have with the graphics - I still think it's one of the best-looking games on the PS2. The further in you go, the better it looks. Extremely detailed characters & enemies, combined with excellent animated backgrounds.

Basically, it's not a stretch for me to say this is one of my favorite games this year and is an absolute steal at $15.

I am going to have to pick this up since I don't really have anything else to play on PS2 at the moment.

Which five buck off coupon are you all using PS2/PSP coupon or the McDonald's one?

I picked it up for $25 with shipping on ebay when it was released and being a huge fan of the onimusha series just ate up this game.

It has a really great combat animations and cool slow mo timing attack system. You get to play as two completely different characters and the story will take about 6-8 hours if you complete all parts. It is a little on the short side but the boss fights are really cool and I am a fan of this graphics style so it fits my taste.

It is definetly worth the $15 after coupon, I would recommend to fans of the genre.

I picked it up. Although, Best Buy was too busy, so I took the ad to Circuit City to get it for that price. I personally liked the demo, so I was definitely not going to miss the opportunity to get it for $20.

It took me around 9-10 hours to beat the game, trying to be pretty thorough but still missed quite a bit. After finishing, it unlocks new difficulties along with the ability to replay with weapons you gained the first time through. It's definitely a game I see myself replaying at some point.

Maybe I'm wierd, but I'm actually not offended by a game being less than 10-15 hours... though most critics seem to think that being less than that length is usually a terrible, terrible thing... I personally love games like Onimusha where they're like long movies that you could easily play through again any time.

Awesome! I was waiting for it to drop in price! I checked the store availability nearby and there's 6 Best Buys around me and they all have copies of the game. I'm gonna purchase one online and head to the store and pick it up later! WEEEE!:D

UPDATE: Me and my co-worker went over to the Best Buy in Milpitas and we got the last two copies... SCORE!

Yeah, GameSpot does a very good job, and GI is a total joke.

You're kidding right? I haven't trusted a GI review since the Paper Mario TTYD debacle.

GI is run by a bunch of Sony fanboys/girls. Or maybe they're simply Nintendo-haters. Either way, I don't trust their bias reviews.

Anyway, nice find! I've wanted to try this game, $15 sounds like an excellent price. Thanks for posting, OP!

This game is on a temporary sale along with God of War, GT4. Pick this one up before the price goes back up on Sunday. It's pretty good. The graphics may not be up to par to God of War but I like the presentation and its colorful graphics.

Temp? Aw, damn it. I shouldn't have passed it up on Tuesday then. I was really hoping for a nice copy of Psychonauts for $30, didn't find it, saw Genji instead but forgot the $5 coupon.

Next time, Gadget...next time!!

Genji is probably my favorite PS2 game of the year. Totally worth $19.99 (or less).

If you're an Onimusha fan you'll love it. As for PS2 games, it's sort of the Japanese answer to God of War. Where GoW is brash and loud and gory, Genji is the same type of action with a more entrancing zen-like quality. Both are good action games, but I liked Genji more.

Jaggies? Yep. It's jarring at first but you really get adjusted to them quickly, and the overall art direction is among the best I've ever seen. Control is silky smooth, and just fun to play - makes playing again a joy instead of feeling like you've already finished everything and seen all the game has to offer. The sound is among the best I've ever heard - crank the surround system in the opening cinematic to be blown away. It's short (6-8 hours), but you will enjoy playing it again at least once. Includes some "new game plus" type options too.

Oh, and don't bother with the strategy guide. You DON'T need it, especially considering the insance price for the Doublejump guide ($19.99? Same as the game?). Game is fairly easy and honestly somewhat linear, so you shouldn't need help. And the extras/art/etc in the guide was not very impressive to me when I flipped through the book at a store.

The linearity and low difficulty are probably the biggest complaints, so if you're looking for a vast "go anywhere" type game, Genji isn't going to fit for you. Pacing is good though, it feels more like you're being directed through a well crafted movie, but with near perfect pure action gameplay.

I've been an Onimusha fan since day 1, and I seriously wonder if Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams will be able to compete. Can't wait for Genji 2 on PS3.
In case you miss out on the sale that ends tomorrow, Value City has this for a regular price of $19.99.
That's where I got my copy.
