Seriously, who actually sees these?[/quote]

A lot more people than you think. You don't know very many black people, do you? Tyler Perry is one of the greatest success stories in the entertainment business. He was rich before you ever heard of him, primarily due to his plays that were done on the so-called "chitlin circuit". He has excellent foresight and owns all of the rights to every play and movie he's ever produced. He provides entertainment for people who don't want overt sexuality and violence or stories that reinforce negative stereotypes.

There are markets beyond the 18-34 white male demographic.

Oh black people, you so crazy.

I like the one with the older lady who is loud and does angry and wacky things, unlike most old ladies who make cookies and knit.

I love the media in regards to Tyler Perry. They always write him off every movie that comes out and time and time again he proves that his releases are straight money in the bank.

He knows his audience and aggresively markets to them, it's brilliant.

His stuff is decent if you take the time to watch it. (I fall under that 18-34 white male demographic)

there are more demographics? I had no idea

But most black people I know have no interest in these at all, is there some kind of contest in Hollywood with who can make the worse movies? Tyler Perry's Shitfest 7 vs. ______ Movie

I like House of Payne (the show on TBS), but I find most of the movies to be somewhat lame. The first few were pretty decent, though.

I also

Oh man, it's C-Note!

Anyways, I (and well my family ;)) enjoy his movies. We've seen Why did I get married? and another one but I'm unsure of the title. He's a good guy, well smart guy, that Tyler Perry as he writes his own stuff and has the patience and money to direct them.

If you ask me, I'd love to be in his position regardless to who he catered to (and who is cast is chiefly made up of).

People consume crap. Tyler Perry makes crap.

This isn't art, it's commerce: Tyler Perry creates products that a lot of people "buy".

It doesn't mean that those products are good or important.

It also doesn't mean that he doesn't promote negative stereotypes, separatism, or racism.

It just mean that there's a market for negative stereotypes, separatism and racism that mainstream filmmakers haven't learned how to tap into yet.

It's entertainment. That's what movies are: entertainment. If his movies don't appeal to you then you don't have to go see it.

Uwe Boll--crap
Tyler Perry--not crap, maybe just not for you

There is a difference between something not appealing to your tastes and garbage. It would be interesting to see what's "good or important" to those who are running down these movies.
