Getting a BC PS3 for Christmas: What PS1/2/3 games to get?

Based on the kinds of games you usually prefer, I'd actually be hesitant to recommend ICO to you. As much as I love the game, I recognize that it's not for everyone. It's a very atypical experience that can't be appreciated if you attempt to draw a 1:1 comparison between its elements and those of other 3D action/adventure games. I would certainly hope that you give it a try, but I just want to give you fair warning that it may not be your cup of tea.

Its sequel, Shadow of the Colossus, more closely aligns with typical action/adventure, so I can heartily recommend that one despite some similar eccentricities compared to the rest of the genre.

I'll look for some syphon filter games when I'm out tomorrow then, since I know only one chain of stores in the area that carries PS1 games.

Thanks for mentioning that Shadow of the Colossus is a sequal to Ico. I never knew that.

Sidenote: WTF is up with not being able to add PSN friends on the web? Is Sony still that far behind MS and XBL?
Somewhat related, but directed@Oldschool:

Have you played this "The Divide: Enemies Within" game on the PS1? Apparently the developers literally tried to make a pseudo 3D Super Metroid. And actually somewhat accomplished this, if some reviews and various editorials I've found are to be believed. I found it during one of those "obscure games that rock/best games you've never played" types of articles.

Given your avatar, this seems like a fair question to aim at you.
 I just checked it out! I can't believe I never heard of it, it looks pretty good. Where did you hear about this, now I have to look for it :wall:Another game added to my want list

Your guess was right Strell, check out this link:

I added The Divide: Enemies Within to my list just so I would remember it tomorrow when I print the list out to go hunting. It sounds pretty fun, and if I can find it for cheap, then why not? :p

You like Physical copies instead of digital copies too:applause:. Forgot to mention about ICO, anyway the Last Guardian is the final game in that series and I think it comes out soon. I usually add friends via PSN, never tried it using the web. I checked out that site Strell and it's on PC too!

Yes. I prefer a hard copy of games and music. Even if I already bought the music in digital form, I'll buy a CD for cheap used just so I have a hard copy backup.
Yeah. I just checked and some tool wants $76 for it new also. LOL@him!
I saw that too, there are always a few screwballs out there that prey on people who don't check prices. I added a link to my Metroid collection for Strell in my previous post

Also get Resident Evil Code: Veronica X. The control can take some time to get use to but the game play is as good as any RE

Depending on a few things tomorrow, here's what I'm getting with the first day of GS B2G1:
Order 1:
Metal Gear Solid 4 = 25
Shadow of the Colossus = 18
Socom Confrontation = free
Order 1 = 45.79 after tax

Order 2:
Splinter Cell: Double Agent = 10
Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow = 8
X-files: Resist or Serve = free
Order 2 total = 19.17 after tax

I should end up with roughly $48.50 in trades tomorrow with the trade 4 get $20 extra.

Total of orders 1 and 2 together = 64.96 after tax
64.96-48.50 = $16.46

I paid a total of $1.16 for Battlefield Bad Company after trading in Wolfenstien for $20 at FYE.(I paid $21.26 for BBC and Wolfenstein at Target)

So I will hopefully find two GH5 $5 off coupons to use on two $10 copies of GH: Smash Hits at BB(after rewardzone coupon) which would make the total for those 9.34 after tax.

Take 9.34 and 1.16 = 10.50

10.50 +16.46 = 26.96 for 6 games, 2 PS3 and 4 PS2. Not bad after the flip flopping. :p

(I love being up at late because I work on these plans best then)

I highly recommend tomb raider the first one

I spent hours with a buddy playing this game. After a couple days we decided the strategy guide was needed. Some of the puzzles are really hard, even with a guide.

Uncharted 1+2, play them in order it will make the 2nd more enjoyable.

For info on socom confrontation read the clan thread in the ps3 forum. Really good info in the 2nd post on the game.

GOW 1+2, buy the ps3 version when it hits a good price. Not that it isn't worth $40 but you will be busy with the other games that are cheaper already.
Is Tomb Raider kinda like the Indiana Jones games?

I've never played Tomb Raider. Only Indy.
I never played the indy games. TR is action, adventure, and puzzle. You go into a level and have a fight where you kill the enemy. After killing the enemy you may be in a room and not have a clear exit to the room. You will then try and find the way out to get to the next level. You may have to look up and you will see something you can jump/climb to. Many times these challenges take a while to figure out but are really addictive. The game uses switches to control obstacles alot. Many of these challenges involve activating a series of switches to continue. The hardest I remember were the ones where you had to swim underwater. Timing was everything or you would run out of air and die. On the ps1 I think the 1st is the best. TR2 sucked. If you play the 1st and like it I recommend looking at reviews on the others to see what people thought.

Legend was good but definitely has a different feel to it than the original IMO. It was more like a prince of persia game. Not rally as challenging but fun none the less.

Resident evil was really good also.

Ok. Thanks for the reccomendation. I'll look for PS1 TR while I'm out today.

It sounds kinda like Indy or the first two PoP games for Xbox/PS2.

I'm not sure if this has been posted or not but you definately need to get Okami for the ps2 man that was one of the best games released on the ps2 is just plain awesome!

It should also be noted that the original Tomb Raider has a remake, Tomb Raider Anniversary, that's available on PS2. (It's oddly unavailable on PS3 even though the Xbox 360 has a version.)

I ended up flipping two $5 copies of GH: Smash Hits(1 Wii and 1 360), a copy of NHL 2k10(360) and adding in my old copy of PGR4 to get a total of $48 worth of stuff at a local game/dvd/cd shop. I'm happy since I figured the most I would get from GS was about $50. I ended up getting the 4 main MGS games and SOCOM Confrontation. :)

Lunchtime is almost over for me but I just wanted to tell you to get Tomb Raider Anniversary instead of Tomb Raider for the PS1. Same game with better graphics engine, See you online later .

Will do!

Here's my haul from the past two days:
PS1:
Syphon Filter
The X-files

PS2:
MGS: Essential Collection(MGS1 PS1, and MGS2&3 PS2)
Splinter Cell
Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow
Splinter Cell: Double Agent
Rainbow Six 3

PS3:
SOCOM: Confrontation
Metal Gear Solid 4

Not bad for trading in 5 copies of GH: Smash Hits at local stores that I bought at BB at 5 a pop. :p
