Getting a new computer

Well I'm going to finally do it and just get a new computer. The question I really have is does anyone have a newer HP... I was looking at these at Circuit City and for the money you really can't beat it.

I know Dell is pretty reasonable too but i've found that the dell is a little more expensive then the HP with a little less stuff.... DVD/RW, HD, etc....

I was just wondering if anyone has had experience with the newer HP's.

I'd say build it...but if you search Dell.com you can get a great deal. They usually have new deals every Wednesday. I bought mine from there about a year ago.

P4 2.8 GHZ with a 533 mhz front bus
1 gig ram (the real kicker)
128 mb GeForce 4
80 Gig HD
USB 2.0

For $650..not a bad deal at all. it also came with a basic CD-ROM drive, but I had a DVD-RW i purchased for my old comp, along with my old monitor.

HP's are total crap. Every friend I have known you bought one has regretted it. Dell is worth the extra few bucks. Plus with Dell you get a really nice repair contract.

I got an HP a year ago, it's been working great. My CD burner went out, but that was made by Philips, the customer service was excellent and replaced it for free with no question.
 
office depot has a great deal this week instore only.

its a compaq brand computer. 399 +tax after 300 in rebates.

the 2 rebates are from HP 50bucks and from OD for 250bucks

in florida (7%tax) it would come to 770 - 300 = 470

its a p4 2.9 ghz computer.

not a lotta ram only 256 ddr.
but its a great computer foro the price.

Usually at this low of price the Chip inside is a celeron. in which case u get what u pay for.


but for a p4 system this is really nice.

its in their sunday ad
 
i built my computer back 5 years ago... that's why i still have it... use it to surf the net... but thanks for the input guys... its seems almost cheaper to just buy one that's prebuilt....

I have an HP that I bought two years ago and it still runs just like the day I bought it. Drop by WalMart and you can pick up an HP for $468.00 with no rebates to have to mail and wait for.
 
Your options listed with the best at the top:

1) Get a Mac. They're better. Don't argue.
2) Get a Dell. They're pretty good quality.
3) Build you own PC. You'll save some money and have fun doing it.
4) Buy an HP. You'll get ripped off with bad proprietary parts and it will break within seconds.
 
i actually just ordered a new pc...i found an emachines T3256 @ tigerdirect.ca. i was going to build my own, but this was just way cheaper so i decided to go for it. Its an athlon XP 3200+ with 512mb DDR, a 160gig hd, and a dvd burner. After shipping and GST i paid 764.45CAD plus a 100CAD mail in rebate. What do you guys think fo my deal?

That apparently is a picture from the Tech Support team party. You get a great system, for a great price...but service you couldnt understand if you tried.

(FYI, im not making fun of Indian people...i just cant understand ones that learned english from a computer manual)
 
Dell customer service is still hella better than no customer service... But, of course dell customer service is pretty much useless if your not a complete newbie...then again, so is pretty much any customer service from big pc manufacturers...

Well, yeah...but i mean when you have a question on a screwd up bill or broken drive, its better to talk with someone who speaks the same language
 
If you need customer service from Dell, best bet is to do online customer chat or email. I have had fantastic service with those methods. Stay off the phone though! Calling them will put you into a "Not my department, let me connect you" HELL!
 
go with HP. I personally have not used/worked with the newer HP/Compaq offerings but they've always been reliable & clean running machines.
 
buy it from a place like Best Buy or Circuit City.........it will be easier if something goes wrong. Oh, and i heard that there is sme shaty Customer sevice for dell......

There are many Indian's that speak English better than people here... also English is India's main required language, so they don't learn it from "computer manuals" as stereotypically thought. But some have trouble switching to English when their whole villages etc spoke a certain language for many many years.

But too bad the telemarketers aren't the good English speaking Indians :(
 
Thats exactly what i mean. I have no problem with Indians, or thier language, but when thier made to do a job from a big company, i just wish the big company would realize that some people may not understant them too well.
 
Just a quick not on the Indians(dots not feathers). I know you guys are just having fun....as I do with my Indian friends at work. However, they learn English is school from the time they start. It is the common language in India since each region has it's own dialect. Most of my Indian friends can only speak to one another in English since they are from different regions.
 
....ok, then the people they hired for dell were drop out. Seriously, i have to have a good experience when talking to them. I apparently have bad luck, but considering my mom just went through the same thing multiple times (ended up just returning the laptop), i have a good argument.
 
are you sure HP doesn't use indian tech support also? Their CEO said that americans shouldn't expect to be guaranteed jobs, i'm pretty sure thats an endorsement of outsourcing. Hell, even IBM does it, i had a problem with my thinkpad and the dude on the other end, with an obvious indian accent tried to fake being american by talking about "choco kat" or kit kat which i think he meant.
