Getting an Xbox soon

In a few weeks, I'm gonna get an Xbox. Really excited. The only thing is that I have no games or anything so it would be quite a while while I play. I was just wondering, your opinion, what games should I get and why? I know everyone is gonna say Halo but I'm not really too crazy about that game. Any help would be good.

opps, forgot to mention what type of games I like. Mainly anything that is fun multiplayer, I play against my brother a lot. Not really too crazy about RPGs but will be willing to take a chance.
 
dont get halo (bet you didnt expect that), but get mechassault, timesplitters 2, and hunter if you like m-player. panzer dragoon is also good (s-player), as is toejam and earl 3
 
Halo is not as good as the hype makes everyone believe but it is a good game. Also try Shenmue II and KOTOR as they may be RPG's but they are excellent
 
If you want something cool and collectable get the halo edition bundle with the green casing and just try to return the halo game to some local store. At least when all said and done you have a xbox no one else has and if you ever sell it you'll get a much better price (its just a thought). Ninja gaiden and Splinter Cell pandora tomarrow are 2 really great new games. NG challeging but deffinitely one of the better games you'll see on Xbox, and Pandora tomarrow has some really good graphics and gameplay. As for shenume 2, its a good game but only if your into playing graphic novels with an emphasis on long periods of exploration. Its not a bad game but deffinitely for a certian demographic. Freedom fighter was also really cool because it gives lets you add member to your group and the controlls are really good. I'm not sure what kind of games your into but these are just some ideas
 
If you're looking for a great multiplayer game try Deathrow. It doesn't have great graphics or presentation but its a ton fun multiplayer and single player.
 
I dunno about not getting Halo. One of the best experiences I've had playing the X-box was playing halo multi with a buddy. I've played mechassult online too... but playing Halo split screen is great. We would do challenges and stuf too. Like how many grenades we could get to stick in a level, only use certain weapons, stuff like that.

Also, the level design seeems realy well thought out for team tactics, even though it's made for single player. Like, one guy sets up and lays cover from one position, (like say a shield on the opening ship, and another goes through a second hallway and outflanks the enemy.

But definately get mechasualt if you want to play that online. Also, look for some cheap games too. If you can get splinter cell on the cheap, that's a greta buy. At one time BB was selling it for $5. Now you cna get it for $15 with a gamer card. It's definately worth 15.

Also, I dunno if Madden of the latest ESPN NFL is better. I haven't got either. Maybe if someone wants to give a testomonial let's hear it. I always hear "Madden, Madden, Madden." But the 2k games always get excellent if not slightly better reviews. You can pick last years verions Madden 2003 and NFL 2k3 at ebgames new for around $10 if you just want to pick up one on the cheap.
 
D&D Heroes is really fun multiplayer with light RPG elements. Otogi, Orta and Gunvalkyrie aregood single player. Another good multi game is Fuzion Frenzy and, oh yeah... Kung Fu Chaos.
 
I suggest you get LIVE! I know it's not really a game, but trust me, you'll love it. SoA good game to go on XBL right now, would be SPlinter Cell:pandora Tomorrow. It' fucking awesome.

A good single player game would be Ninja Gaiden and SC:pT!

back to the subject, many of the games listed already are very good single and multi-player. my suggestion is Dead Or Alive 3, it is very good single or multi player but dont expect it to be very challenging on single player mode. i also want to say GET SPLINTER CELL and PANDORA TOMORROW. SC:pT seems to be easier and it has multi player so maybe you should buy pandora and if you liked the single player then get SC.

Definately check out Crimson Skies for both multiplayer and single player. Its my favorite flying game to date on any system.
 
EB Games has a cheap promo going on right now, where you can get a Xbox for $129.99 + tx after rebates. I think the deal was get a Xbox, SC: PT, and extra Controller S.
 
I thought the first Buffy was real good. Either of the Ghost Recons are great.

Defintly get LIVE you can go to a local Hollywood Video or BlockBuster and check to see if the subscription cards are in the SC: Pandora's Tomorrow, that's where I got my 12 month Subscription from (before anyone has a hissy fit about this I asked the manager if I could take the card). Then you can just get a cheap $5 headset from Best Buy.
 
The only reason I'm getting the system in a few weeks, is because I have put it on layway at Wal-Mart. Didn't have all the money at the moment. I won't have very much money to spend after getting my system out. I would probably need a cheap game. I've heard a lot about Shenmue II and it worth being the price. I think I will have around $20 or so to spend. I went to Target and did the barcode thing and the games showed up at good prices, too bad they didn't have any in stock. If not, I could have the games and no system. Oh well, I'm paitent.
