GGT 148 is now too mainstream for some. . .
Beavis and Butthead is funny because it's satirizing that brand of idiot. You're not supposed to think they are awesome funny people. With Duke Nukem, you're actually supposed to think he's awesome and that his one liners are funny, but they are mind-numbingly stupid. He's like the guy you knew in high school that would quote toilet humor from all the worst movies. It's just plain dumb.
Beavis and Butthead is pretty dumb, too.

Like, real dumb.

But then again, I'm just arguing with you for no reason right now.
I bet gears 3 sucked tonight without me, or was better, or both. thighs in the night.
It was not as good without you :(

Still was good, but was missing insanity.

I'm not really a fan of Beavis and Butthead, but I can see the subtext pretty clearly. In Duke Nukem, there are no moments where you're supposed to laugh at Duke. It wants you to laugh with him, but he's not funny.

You wanna know what I find real dumb?

Flight of the Conchords.

That shit is so unfunny and annoying. But I fucking hate hipsters, so whatev, I'm not the target audience. ^__^
The joke was on the alien ship, where all the girls were being raped and screaming in pain and stuff.
They weren't being raped, did you look at them?
You then come up to two of the girls who were just raped and they ask you for help and Duke says, "looks like your fucked" in a one-liner kind of tone.
This bothered you? They were "raped" by aliens in the same way humans were "raped" in the Alien movies.

Please tell me you're just trolling.
They weren't being raped, did you look at them?
Yes, their stomachs were clearly moving around because they had been raped. And one of the girls even said "that was my first time."
The difference is Aliens didn't try to make a joke out of it. That's the part that's messed up, not the fact that rape happens.

You may not like Flight of the Conchords, but it's pretty clear that some thought goes into the jokes and delivery. With DNF, it thinks it's funny that fork sounds like fuck. And the references to other stuff is more along the lines of all the movies that end in the word Movie (Scary Movie, Epic Movie, etc.) rather than a proper satire.
Yes, their stomachs were clearly moving around because they had been raped. And one of the girls even said "that was my first time."
You said they were being raped. So they weren't being raped, they just had an alien inside them? Okay.
The difference is Aliens didn't try to make a joke out of it. That's the part that's messed up, not the fact that rape happens.
This was an Alien that sticks an egg inside your stomach through your mouth. You are really over-blowing this whole thing, just like that one critic.

I'll be straight, I'm not going to argue with you about this. I already stated my opinion about this when DNF came out. So it's best to agree to disagree, because neither of us is going to change our view.

But they didn't just have an alien inside them. They were in distress from the alien rape that had occured/was occuring. They had those pod things that their lower halves were attached to, and their stomachs were all moving around and stuff with the alien inside them. Whether it's a penis doing the raping or not doesn't change the tone of the situation. They were clearly hurting after being violated and begging for help, and Duke just cracks a joke about it.

I didn't say anything about DNF. I just stated that I hated Flight of the Conchords, mainly because. . .

1. Every joke was just an attempt to be clever when it really wasn't or they just tried way too hard. Sarcasm and satire only go so far, gents.

2. It's basically Hipsters: The Show, and my two hipster ass ex band mates that I fucking hate used to quote that shit all the fucking time and I wanted to shank their goddamn hipster asses with broken drumsticks and leave them for dead.

So to speak.

3. The Wayans are comedic geniuses.

There was an alien baby inside them, I'd expect them to be in pain. You saw what happened in the Alien movies. You know the pods were just there for censorship.

You are taking this waaaaay too seriously.

1. I don't think FotC is particulary brilliant or anything, but it at least reaches a certain standard of intelligence that rises above what you would get out of a middle schooler. Even if you don't think it's as clever as it thinks it is, it's still clever to some degree.

2. When people you don't like like something (especially if they quote it all the time), that is a surefire way to make you not like it, so I can understand that.

3. White Chicks 2 is gonna be sooooo goooood.

The game can't expect to portray a serious subject matter in a serious way, and not expect me to take it seriously. I felt bad for the girls who were raped, so it rubbed me the wrong way for the main character to make an extremely bad joke about it.

If you take absolutely anything in that game seriously, you're doing it wrong.

Obviously the intent was not to offend, but it's clear the designers didn't know what they were doing since they apparently made that level have a serious tone to quite a few people on accident. I couldn't help but take it seriously since the atmosphere of that level was pretty dark and oppressive. If they wanted to make that level humorous, they should have done a better job of making it humorous.

It's like that person that feels he or she is intelligent because they know big words.

2. Indeed.

3. Agreed. ^__^

I know exactly what you are saying, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's dumb. It just means it's not as smart as it thinks. And I can see why pretentiousness like that would be more off-putting than something that embraces stupidity, but there's a difference between disliking something and thinking it is devoid of intelligence.

I think this actually brings up an interesting point in relation to the Duke Nukem rape thing. In Deus Ex, I paid that woman's debts off for good because I felt bad for her. I think my attitudes towards both of those situations can be explained by the fact that I am extremely empathetic, even with fictional stories and situations. I guess this kind of thing boils down to what kind of person you are when it comes to digesting fictional media. That also would explain why I prefer story-heavy games over mindless fun, since stories have a much greater capacity to affect me than gameplay does (although the two working together can take things even farther).

On one hand, I can see why somebody would care what happens to fictional characters. Take for example the Metal Gear Solid series. I cared about what happened to Snake and company at the end.

Now on the other hand, we're talking Duke Nukem Forever and random NPCs in Deus Ex Human Revolution. Did I feel bad for KOing her? Not really, I just didn't want to spend the 5000 whatever currency they use to save her. ^__^

I knew I'd be missed :)

I'll be more free this week so hit me up or text me for those who have my damn number... not free tomorrow though

I get attached to anything and everything including random NPCs, so yeah, I'm weird. I don't kill pedestrians in GTA either. :whistle2:#
Now I get why you always call him a hipster.
Actually they just started doing that because I said I like Arcade Fire.

But I guess I am giving them reasons to perpetuate that.

You card more about the fictional money, of which you have tons of, than the fictional girl.

Nice.

There's real people in a live-action movie!

And there's fake people in here!

So, yeah. Braiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinz Bitch.

I always play evil in games. I murder people all the time and enjoy doing so. I rob old ladies and blackmail people into paying me large sums of money. In Dragon Age I even had my character have sex with a guy just so I could fuck over his attempt at a relationship with a girl he liked. That being said, I still found Duke Nukem a disgusting game...

In this thread: ihadFG doesn't like cheesy summer popcorn flicks.

Because from what I played, it was basically a Stallone/Schwarzenegger/Van Damme movie with cheesy one liners and all. Of course, IMO. :)

I don't really remember any of those guys joking about rape or having really shitty gameplay.
