GGT 353 Happy Home Destroyer

Nice to see some talk of GGTers playing games together again. I've been meaning to get back into KI. I have the Season 1 pack. I got to a competent level with Jago when I first started playing.
More KI players? Hell yeah, come on and join in whenever we play. I'll put the times in the PSN club and in here.

3s was too short notice. What other games do the majority of us like and have on the same system?

Stuff like KI is easy since there's only one way to play. So expect plenty of SFV for the same reason, too. Yes, I know both will have PC versions with cross-play.

I can definitely do some KI stuff as well, I have a friend or two who may join in as well if that's all good. I'm not that great at it though, but yeah it could be fun for sure

So after a bummer day yesterday we get...

STAR WARS

star-wars-force-awakens-official-poster.jpg

Poster looks awesome, also Rey is right up front, I wonder if her identity is more than we think? Also Finn with a lightsaber, which we have seen already. Get a glimpse at Leia. Also check out Death Star 2.0 in the background.

They way they have Kylo and Rey lined up makes me wonder if they are twins?

Luke is the bad guy.
Adam Driver is the bad guy, which for me is a bit weird after seeing him in other films. Especially "This is where I leave you" movie messed with me for weeks after. Did anyone else see that movie?

Also on Variety they say that Rey is holding a "unique lightsaber".... she is holding a staff. The same staff we have seen in other promo stuff for the movie. In the article they have a picture of her with the staff....

Luke is the bad guy. That's why he's not on the poster (except he is).

And the placement of the red lightsaber makes it look like it's part of her staff.

You can clearly see kylo ren's hands on the hilt. I could tell right away that it wasnt part of her staff.

u guys are nerds

the red light saber could easily be seen as/mistaken for connecting to the staff.

obv it's not, but it's like they did it on purpose or something cuz symbolism is a thing

What does the angle of the blue lightsaber to the red lightsaber on the xy plane of the poster not being 90° mean?

If anything, wouldn't that be Death Star 3.0?

Was waiting for someone to point that out, since the second death star was almost identical to the first it would be known as still the death star. Now 2.0 would show that it had major upgrades.

So we can call it Death star 1.0, death star 1.1 and the new one Death star 2.0

If the red lightsaber is touching the staff, i.e. the contact force, and the blue lightsaber WAS perpendicular to the red lightsaber, what kind of force would that be?

Did Beatles buy his Star Wars ticket? I'm going to be disappointed if he says no.
I didnt but I plan on seeing it opening day, odd thing is the day it comes out is a day something is going on with family is why im not yet sure on time.

My mom was telling me how crazy the orginial one in 1977 was when it got released and how the lines were "around the block". I just told her that im going to see it opening day even if I have to stand off in a corner.

Seeing the new trailer makes me really like the characters. Like they seem very charismatic. Rey and Finn are going to be so much better than Padme and Anakin. Watch JJ do star wars a million times better than the prequels and show up George Lucas. Or he can completely ruin it... we have two months, we can do this.

Hi GGT. Old man ranting.

fuck Diddy Kong Racing for introducing non-karts to karting games. It poisoned the well. Just about every title since then has forced air/water tracks or sections on the player with imprecise control. I recently played Sonic Transformed and an otherwise decent karting experience (e.g. solid controls, good item distribution) was wrecked in intervals by shitty airplanes and watercrafts.

(Also, on DKR: It's yet another reason to hate the Rare Kongs. They get away with so much, they're evil villain shitty videogame masterminds.)

And whoever came up with stunts in kart games? fuck that guy too. It's probably the same asshole at Nintendo that came up with the MKWii party game item bonanza.

Why can't we just kart? Why can't it just be about karting? With goofy cartoon characters and silly weapons. That's all I ask for in my waning years.

Cannot relate. I loved the shit out of Diddy Kong Racing. Certainly wouldn't mind ways to reign in the item slaughterfest in the genre as a whole though.

I'll definitely be there for KI once some of my shit clears up. Pretty much only been keeping up with Ultimax on PS3 otherwise, and even then, not as much as I'd like to.

There are a lot more KI players here than I thought. I didn't know so many people had KI let alone an Xbone. Might be enough people to do a tournament.

Tell me how you feel about Crash Team Racing.

CTR is dope.

You get hit and then bounce in place for about 3 mins.

You can also be a cute little polar bear.
Yeah, CTR is a good karter. Good mechanics, a little slide-y feeling, but the drift n' boost system was solid. I even thought the PS2 follow-up was decent.

One minor criticism of CTR, and especially the sequel, is that some of the tracks could be hard to navigate. That's not much of a criticism, though: a lot of other non-Mario karting games had the problem of track design that could lose you. Maybe a little too "busy" for their own good.

Being too busy is something that could be said for a lot of Crash, I guess. That's another criticism. Those characters are messy. In terms of design, I mean. They're ugly to look at. Gross, even.

Back to track design, that's one of the genuine accomplishments of the MK games, they do a pretty good job of designing courses that you can get through even if you haven't played them before. I don't agree with the idea that it *should* take repetition. Repetition should reveal the fast lines, shortcuts, hidden secrets, etc. but you shouldn't need to run a track 10 times in order to figure out where the hell to go. (Unless you're going for a "maze" design, like the yoshi level in MK64.)

I never thought that the Crash characters were gross. Gross character designs to me are things like any of the old Nickelodeon cartoons (Ren & Stimpy, Rocko's Modern Life, Rugrats, etc)

Sloppy? Is that a better word than gross?

In my defense, I think "gross" fits the dude with the engine in his head.

Point is, their character art is generally shit. Call it what you will. Shit, sloppy, gross, lazy.

I don't remember enough of the characters in Crash to say.

The thing I remember most about Crash is him yelling at a Nintendo building through a megaphone and then being escorted away by security.

Yeah, I'm not an artist so I can't comment technically. They just don't -- and didn't, even in their day -- look good. I think it's probably a fair assessment.

We'll see...if someone from the Bandicoot Defense League pops up, maybe I'll get told on their bold design choices and interesting use of proportion and suprising lines and who knows what. But I doubt that happens, the BDL ran out of funds years ago.

Last kart game I played was Mario Kart DS. I haven't even played the Wii U game. I've really never been much of a fan of the genre. I'd much rather be playing a real racing game. I just wish there were more. I'd lick someone's ass for a new, good 4x4 off-road racing game. There wasn't a single good one last gen. The Dirts and Motostorms and others like them were pretty lame. Gimmie a 4x4 Evo 3.
