Thanks, perhaps I should use 1up for my gaming news from now on. Muramasa is a fantastic game, and I'm looking forward to trying Odin Sphere.

And yeah, remakes are exciting because you already know they'll be good. As do developers, which makes them very safe projects to undertake.

i can't stop watching...

as unexciting and worrying as DMC5's trailer is, they could be pulling a DR2, where the Western dev team is the "face" of the project for whatever reason, but all the game designers are Japanese. It's not dead in the water. and needless to say, people worrying SO HARD about his look are lame.

IMO, that game is leaps and bounds over L4D2. Depends -- if you liked Uncharted/Uncharted 2 combat, you might like the Gears series, since Uncharted cover based combat plays a lot like Gears.

L4D was okay. I had my fill. I thought what I played of L4D2 was terrible and didn't play for very long.

On the other hand, I loved Gears, I loved Gears 2, and I hope I love Gears 3. :lol:

Ugh yea exactly. Ninja Theory could just be babysitting most of it and Japan just tells them everything to do - and Capcom decided to make a big change when it was out of their hands so Ninja Theory takes the blame.

Ninja Theory hasn't really made a game I've liked yet (Heavenly Sword had some potential...) but they still haven't been given a chance to prove themselves on something big.
 
Well, all I'm saying that it isn't surprising that the moment DMC turns into absolute trash, it's the moment Ninja Theory came on board.

I mean, the franchise has faltered a bit here and there before, but this is just terribad.

Because he is young and brunette? I don't get it.

They didn't show anything and the combat looked sweet. Dante is a whiny bitch to begin with, it's not like a crazy character switch. It's not like this is a reboot for Hayabusa, Batman or Solid Snake. It's Dante... he wears tight clothes, exposes his chest and get's emo haircuts.

Not in the combat. It's pretty much the same thing, though Gears has "Roadie Run".
Push into cover, jump over, move around, pop up, over the shoulder third person camera for aiming. Hell, in both you have to hit a button to pick up ammo. You also have the same d-pad mappings, with primary guns on left/right, grenades on up, pistol on the down. It's got a bit of a different feel to it, but it's very very similar. The only real difference I can think about right away is that melee in gears doesn't do combos like Uncharted.

The complete tone of that trailer was so far in left field from where DMC should be. Everything about it was just shitty. Even the fight choreography was shitty.

It was shitty character design, a cigarette, and oh wait for it -- a pair of guns and a sword -- IT'S DMC EVERYBODY.

I suppose. I personally find cover based shooters inherently boring by design (they simply lack gameplay options). It has to have an amazing presentation to be enjoyable for me, which is why I enjoyed Uncharted 2 and Mass Effect 2 a lot -- I felt like I was on an sweet action adventure and that naturally made the combat a lot more immersive.

I find Gears very mundane by comparison. Played the hell out of the first one and could barely start the 2nd.

It's hard to explain, but it just seemed like a very amateur way to convey the character's personality (it's why they added a cigarette, after all). Watch the cinematics of DMC3 and you get a very different vibe (and that was the young dante as well).

I disagree. To me the cigarette is basically just a visual representation of his rebelliousness at the time. Don't really see what is amateur about it, as lots of teens smoke.

It definitely seems as if this is the youngest Dante we've seen yet, as well, before he opened his shop and started getting his feet wet (DMC3).

Well yeah, it's cliche. Smoking = rebel (or at least in the way it was portrayed here). They wanted that last shot to resonate with the audience into thinking this is an awesome new Dante -- and it's of him smoking.

So it's not so much the fact that he smokes, but the way they so obviously relied on that as a tool to convey the "badass/rebel" message that they think is what defines Dante.

I'd rather see a motorcycle go up a wall or have him killing a boss and then using her as a guitar. That's just me though.

Just beat Lost Planet.

It was one of the first games I played for 360 (through the demo), and it was one of the games I got my 360 to play way back when, but I just kept neglecting to buy it. I finally got it over the summer during Movie Gallery closing for less than 10 bucks, and it lived up to my original expectations. Really great combat marred by some technical fuck-ups, EXCELLENT boss fights, just the right amount of challenge...and the final level was AWESOME! I'd play a full game of that style of gameplay, but from the looks of things that's not what Lost Planet 2 is at all.

Really enjoyed this one.

I also remember the multiplayer demo being really fun, but never tried it on the full version; I doubt anyone is still playing anyway.

Now the question is what to play next. There's always FFXIII to try and make a dent in, but I also wanna get into the Tomb Raider XBLA game. Lost & the Damned pissed me off too much to go back to right now.

I use gaf primarily for specific and obscure discussions since CAG ones mostly are lame.

I was at the PS HOME theater event for a meet and greet and the fans there loved me. On youtube people are prudes. It cracks me up how stupid people on there are. Feel free to stop by the page and leave some love and I promise not to forget about you guys ;)
