Man, Yakuza 5. That shit just looks fucking amazing.
Imagine if they made Kazuma Kill You a scrawny drugged out pile of shit lookin' Twilight dude. Dude that'd be so sweet.
I think you're taking me way too literally here. I know Castlevania isn't taking up all his time or even a lot of it, I just mentioned it because it looks fairly mediocre.
I don't know what you're talking about -- LoS looks pretty frickin' awesome from what I've seen.

Seems Capcom can't win. People are complaining about the addition of X-23 to the MVC3 roster and the new look of Dante.

They really shouldn't have added fuckin' X-23. That almost makes me angrier than the whole Dante thing.
At least the new look Dante isn't in MvC3.
I'm super happy about that. I probably would have never played him if it was Reboot Dante.

Agreed. At the very least it should turn out to be a decent GoW-style action game with a good atmosphere/setting. Between that and Enslaved, the week of October 5th is going to be busy for me.

There is really no reason to be that annoyed with a character until you've actually had hands on time with them... But what do I know I'm just happy to see another female on the roster.

No, there is a reason to be annoyed: Capcom and Marvel have hundreds of awesome characters, and they pick bullshit like Trish, Tron Bonne, and X-23. That's great that you wanna jack off to your fighting games, I wanna play as cool characters.

Yeah, the bitching is probably just people who want a true Castlevania game, gather than the series morphed to a GoW style action game.

I fall into that crowd, except I don't complain as they can make the series how every they want. Easy enough for me to just ignore it since I don't like action games, and wait for another Metroidvania game on the DS etc.

They already have the only "cool" characters I care about. So it really doesn't matter if they add some "uncool" characters.

It's a paradox. Put new Dante in MvC3 to promote DmC. Fans rage, who is this, what the fuck? Make new Dante but use classic Dante in MvC3. Fans wonder why the fuck Capcom is going with a reimagining of DMC if fans obviously like/want the classic one in MvC3.

But it's like I was saying on GAF -- someone asked who Trish was -- considering she's a demon with a sword and some guns like Dante, I asserted it was "transgender Dante". Rumours surface about She-Hulk -- at this point I question game designers motives. Adding She-Hulk is just adding female Hulk. Adding Trish was kind of like adding female Dante. So I started asking for Sakura... and these to boot: Lady Deathstrike as female Wolverine, Jill Valentine or Sheva as female Chris Redfield, Sakura as female Ryu, and Lady Deadpool as female Deadpool.

Then boom. X-23 is here. Hello female Wolverine.

I'm looking for some advice from home theater experts.

I have a TV with an optical audio ouput. I'd like to get a receiver(?) so that I can eventually get a surround sound system and be able to plug in a standard headphone jack and listen to my TV's audio.

Currently this is the only audio output my TV has.

Is a receiver what I want? How much should I be expecting to shell out for something like that?

Really guys? Your standards are that low for C:LoS -- a decent GoW rip off?

Look at the combat footage, it's 100% run of the mill in nearly every aspect. Swipe-Swipe-Dodge Roll, rinse repeat. Add a cool looking grab and a QTE in for good measure. I've been playing shit like that since I was 8.

I remembered when people saw footage of the ice giant and joked, "lol it's SOTC!!"
And then we get actual footage of the boss fight and it is SOTC.

Nothing about the game has impressed besides a decent voice performance and the fact that the story may actually be somewhat coherent. It's a rental in my book. A fun rental, perhaps -- but I'm not going to sit here and say it looks like an "awesome" game. And no I'm not a diehard Castlevania fan who only wants 2D, I was rooting for this game when it was first revealed.

A game doesn't have to be innovative to be good. It looks very polished and fun to play, plus the Castlevania universe is interesting. It may not be a step forward for the genre, but it certainly seems worth playing for people who like GoW and those type of games.

You're right in saying a game doesn't need to innovate to be good, I just think we should expect a bit more coming from our hack-n-slash games in the year 2010. Not even in terms of innovation, but in levels of "polish" that would make the familiar formula feel fresh.

I guess I'm just not seeing it with this game. I can understand people having fun with it, but I can't understand people praising it as a step up to anything else out there. Right now it looks like an 8 hour game I've already played. It'll be enjoyable for the new setting and enemies, and that's why I call it a rental.

I don't disagree that it's probably only worth a rental for most people. But I also think it will be pretty good and not just "mediocre." For me the things that make it stand out are the setting and story. I've always liked the God of War style of combat, so that hasn't really gotten stale for me yet. That type of gameplay thrown into the Castlevania universe is something that just seems like it will work well. With the $20 amazon credit that comes with it, it seems worth a purchase for me because I could always sell it after beating it to make my $40 back.

I'll play Castlevania. Yeah, it looks pretty decent and mindless. That's about what I expect of most games this generation.

Also, at least it looks more fun than Castlevania 64.
I already played Motorstorm dullowmayne. It's pretty damn cool but 3d tvs are too expensive right now.
Yeah, I haven't tried any yet myself. And I agree, pretty expensive though I'll be on the look out for one next year. Hopefully in time for Ico and SotC.

I wish my apartment allowed pets. I want a pig

2 problems I heard out of some random game magazine review: Framerate and camera problems. I couldn't care less if it's God of War or not, but those 2 are potential deal breakers for me.

When I read that one reviewer spent 8 hours with the game and was barely in Chapter 3/11 and that there was backtracking with secrets to unlock/find once you're powered up... I was intrigued. When I watched the developer walkthrough of the level with Werewolves, I placed my order to get it for $40.

So you're 13?

Alright, maybe a bit of an exaggeration on my part. I suppose Devil May Cry was when I was 11. Still, almost a decade.

I played Starcraft when I was 8 though =D

@corrosive

Yeah, you see, I got turned off at the "Gabriel, go collect 4 crystals while I sit here."

And then I watched a little more and saw some swiping and rolling, fairly boring enemy encounters, some of your typical balance beam gameplay, health fountains straight out of Dante's Inferno/GoW, platforming segments reminiscent of the first PoP on PS2 -- meh.

I wish I could be excited for it and I hope you have a fun time with it, but I suppose it's simply not for me.

Anyone?
Anyone?
Yeah -- receivers, in my limited knowledge, generally act as a congregation of inputs from which you select what will be sent to the speakers. You switch from DVR to PS3 or 360, you'd switch the receiver to the proper input selection and then that device's sound goes to your speakers.

Dallow would probably be a good guy with receiver advice. Me? I just want a soundbar one of these days.

Lol. I'm trying to gtfo of this discussion which I have no place in. Somehow I got sucked in it. But everytime I try backing out someone has to bring me back.

But NOW if nobody taunts me back in, I'm 100% done with that discussion.

I didn't exactly taunt you. Only asserted that you get passionate about things. :)

Not you, the other folk.

And it's true. I just always get passionate when people start ragging on developers as a whole. I was fine with the inFamous 2 rant, it was annoying but people didn't get as extreme and hate on SuckerPunch as much.

BUT I'm done with thisssssss!
