I'm thinking a new theater setup is in store for us too. My surround unit was purchased about 7 years ago I guess and has gone through too many moves to count. It was a fairly cheap to begin with. Some of the speakers are starting to crackle at certain, random moments. I'm not really sure what's going on.
I think the Onkyo 605 is probably going to be my receiver. What's a good balance between cost and quality for speakers?
Onkyo 605 is a good thing. Very good, actually. But! I'd honestly wait another month or so, because Onkyo's new models should be coming out very shortly. Typically, there aren't massive discounts on old model receivers, especially not nice ones.
balance between cost and quality for speakers? I dunno what that means, but if you're going to get an Onkyo 605, you should be looking to spend like.... a kilobuck on speakers and a sub. I dunno how much you're looking to spend, but if the $1000 range sounds acceptable, then I can recommend some stuff.
