easy as your mom

couldn't resist

Bangai-O Spirits hitting store shelves tomorrow = BEST BIRTHDAY PRESENT EVAR.

But probably would wait until the weekend because it's going to be tax free. :bomb:

Alright, now u officially krazy.

I was gonna say that you're as crazy as TMK, but you don't cry in the corner over people insulting Star Ocean 3.

BTW, when are we getting some of these damn shmups on next gen systems? I know Otomedius is next month, but is there anything else? Those 360 Cave shmups disappeared off the face of the earth.

I think microsoft declined that cave shmups appear in the marketplace since it already has a bunch of shmups. I think I might have to import a 360 from japan to play otomedius and the raiden games.

I know that the Cave shmups are supposed to be retail titles... honestly, I prefer that to having something bound by MS' DRM. But we heard about Dodonpachi Black Label and Ketsui hitting the 360 like a year ago, and there's been nothing since. And those games are better than like 99% of the stuff that comes out on the system

I wish I had 2 million dollars to give to cave to make guwang 2.

I mean, I already suck at gawang, give me another one to suck at.

guwaaaaaaaaaang~~
I wish they just came out on the PS3 for easier importing, or PC.
Yeah, that'd be ideal, but if they're only on the 360... at least that's something.

Sorta. Except I have no idea how to mod 360s without screwing yourself over when Mr. RROD comes to town. Along the same lines, I'd hate to buy a Japanese 360 only to have it die on me a year into owning it and not be able to get it repaired outside of Japan.

All that being said, I really do want a Japanese 360. Raiden IV is about to come out and the Raiden Fighters compilation would be awesome.

I just went through all the PS3 preorders at Play-asia and as far as I can tell there are no shooters coming out.

Raiden IV on Sept 12.

And yeah, who knows what is going on with Cave on 360--last I heard 5pb was supposed to be doing the port, but their website is fuck ed up and they are only plugging their ghey galget shit. Oh wellz.

Mebbe Cave is feeling guilty, though, because it seems like they are making a brand new shmup just for you, Chac:

I would laugh if it's a cell phone game, though. :p

Too much clothes!

But Raiden IV... I dunno. I haven't played an especially great Raiden game ever before. Is this one looking better, or is it basically Raiden?

I'll probably wait to import Otomedius until there's a Playsia sale. No sense in buying a newly released game at full price if I can't play it.

But there is sense in buying a half-priced game I can't play.

My understanding is that it's basically Raiden. I can't imagine there are too many game series that stray dramtically from the formula that they are best known for--so if you weren't really keen on, say, Raiden III (which I liked), then I imagine you won't be blown away by IV.

well it's not that I don't like the gameplay, it just doesn't have that last bit of oomph, if that makes any sense. I'm hoping for something like Gradius V where, while I didn't give a shit about any other Konami shooter up to that point, Gradius V was so damn polished that it felt different.

Though maybe that's due to Treasure's involvement.

Well, we'll see I guess.

The Touhou series on PC is one of my favorite shmups.

About Raiden III and Gradius V, I feel about the same with Chac though I did like the previous Gradius' since I had them on my Famicom.

k, I just Youtube'd up a video of Raiden IV, and it looked so much more... active than Raiden III. Almost like a 3D Cave shmup with less bullets. I guess that doesn't make sense. But it doesn't have to! It actually looked pretty cool.

Yeah, it looks pretty intense. I plan to pick up that and Otomedious G with the next good PA sale myself. Unless I hear that Aksys or someone does a US release, of course.

Please continue with the RPG talk. However, be on the lookout for any slimes you may encounter.

man, i remember the days i would beat RPGs in one or two days.

but with work, that's not happening. I'm still stuck on FFTA2 after putting in 40 hours. *sigh* it's like, RPGs take me at least a month to beat now.

Browse CAG. So bored my face hurts. I want to be playing NHL 09 right now! Oh shit. OT in the RPG thread.

The Be-A-Pro mode has RPG elements in it though. I am eating it up. My 2 favourite things, hockey and RPGs, are combining into one Blu-ray disc of hot sex.

I don't think I've ever played through an RPG in 2 days... though when I've got a good RPG, I usually decide "yeah, I'm devoting 6PM to whenever I go to sleep as time to play this RPG. So shit gets done pretty quick that way.

The best sports game I've ever played with RPG elements has to be MVP '05. I created two characters for my division A team, a pitcher and a slugger/fielder. Worked them up to AA, then to AAA, then finally into the majors. They eventually became the MVPs of my team and had the best stats in the majors. Damn, I wish they would make a modern baseball game with all the options that MVP '05 had. Stupid MLB license exclusivity.

I think after I finish up FFX-2 I'll continue the Xenosaga saga with Ep 2. I hear that Junior is more of the main character than Shion, which disappoints me. Shion was my favorite character, and I almost always had her on my team.

MLB 08 The Show has a feature kind of like that. I think you start in AAA though. I am not too certain since I don't play that mode.

Funny thing, I've heard a lot of complaints about FF IV's encounters yet they are less frequent than the original. I don't know if you people remember how long it took to explore on the SNES. Aside from the small screen, I see nothing inferior about the DS version. The over the top voice acting is a very entertaining addition I think, although it might upset those guys who took the original too seriously.

Well, I've been playing FFIV on DS lately, and sadly, it's my very first time to play through it, ever. Enjoying what I have played though.

Got an email this morning telling me my pre-order copy of Pokemon Platinum shipped today, so I'm very excited to get that in the coming week.

What's platinum? Yellow is to Red/Blue as Platinum is to Diamond/Pearl?

Even if you don't like the voice acting, you can just turn it off. I don't know why more games don't give you that option, but... it's in FFIV.

Yes, Platinum is the revised and third installment in the Diamond/Pearl series. It's the same trend Nintendo has done with every generation (Red/Blue/Yellow, Gold/Silver/Crystal, Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald). If things follow trend (2 sets of pokemon RPG's every gen) and since we got a remake of Red/Blue last gen, I say after Platinum comes stateside (which could be as early as February from what I've heard) I think the next due in line would be a G/S remake for the DS. But, I'm just sayin'.

I played Pokemon Blue for hundreds of hours, actually caught all 151, then sort of lost track of the series. Tried to get back into it with Pearl, but everything is so complicated now! Day/night cycles, honey on trees, baking pastries, planting berries, evolutionary paths... The basic gameplay is still fun, but I get turned off by the feeling that playing with a guide/FAQ is practically mandatory.

You can ignore pretty much everything with the trees (unless you want to "catch 'em all"), berries, pastries, and talent shows.

For me it's mostly because I can't run as easily as I could in the SNES version. In the SNES version you can run before they can even hit you. In the DS version they get like 4-5 free hits on you.

Still playing through Eternal Sonata and then I'm going to punish myself even more when I get Enchanted Arms later this week. I must have some left-over Catholic guilt from my childhood.

I think it was marked down to 20 bucks a while ago. Also i think you guys have made me decide to go and get ffIV for the ds today
