Yeah, yeah, I know PA isn't the cheapest place to get imports, but this has a certain 'wow' factor I couldn't resist posting about:

^A $500 new/sealed Radiant Silvergun^

I dunno what I'm more surprised about--that they actually have a "new" copy, or the unfathomable price. If the link is dead by the time anyone reads this, I will also be amazed as that means some rich nutjob actually shelled out for this.

Considering the prices that complete/mint copies bring in on Ebay, $500 seems about right for a new copy. I don't think there's any game on the planet worth that kind of money but if there was going to be one, RSG would be up there.

Hey, what are everyone's favorite SNES / Super Famicom Shooters? Mine are:

UN Squadron
Super R-Type
Thunder Spirits
Darius Twin
Raiden Trad
Aero Fighters
Macross Scrambled Valkyrie
Hey, what are everyone's favorite SNES / Super Famicom Shooters?
I haven't sampled all that's available, but R-Type 3 is an all-time favorite of mine, regardless of system.

Yeah, i'm afraid that link immediately tripped two of my time-tested rules.

1st rule of shooters: people from shmups.com piss reviews of games out of the gaping vaginas they call mouths

2nd rule of shooters: it's likely that Europeans are clinically retarded, if their efforts at making shooters are any indication

3nd rule of shooters: don't listen to anyone who acts like they played a shooter with only the keyboard

4rd rule of shooters: super don't listen to anyone who plays a shooter with the keyboard and gives the game a favorable review

5th rule of shooters: Cho Ren Sha 68k is the greatest videogame ever
Look, I can deal with 1942 being slow and boring. It was made in 1984. Chaos Field has no excuse.
Actually, 1942 didn't have an excuse either, compared with how vicious their other games were at the time. It's the only shooter i've ever played where the single biggest cause of player death is ennui.

Parodius,Gradius III, and R-Type III..and my list is complete.

I just got Android Assault for the Sega CD:

UN Squadron is my shit!!

but my favorite SHMUP from NES is TALES SPIN.

doh doh doh be doh TALESPIN doh doh doh be doh TALESPIN

on the DISNEY AFTER NOON~!!

Yeah, I loved UN Squadron, even though the SNES version had the worst slowdown.

My favorite though is probably Space Megaforce. Wish I still had that game, but I'll just wait for Wii VC....

Speak for yourself, my biggest cause of death is kamikaze planes flying up from the bottom of the screen into my plane.

Beating the game, now that's what's impossible due to ennui. I tried to continue my way through the NES version once. Over one ear-bleeding hour later, I had to quit or risk my sanity.

Speculated for a while now, but here's some more news about the Japanese release of DC shooter Triggerheart Exelica on the 360 (courtesy Kotaku who got it from...somewhere, though they link the official Warashi page):

So Japan will be awash in TE stuff (DC game, awesome figure, and now XBL game). Gives me hope that more shooters will come out in the future.
So if I understand correctly, Touhou 10 - Mountain of Faith is out now....I think
Just played the first 2 stages and so far it's pretty fun.

I forgot about JAMMA. Here's some pics and vids of the Cave booth for Death Smiles (courtesy shmup.com forums). It looks pretty cool!:
Star Soldier R for Wii. Looks good, hope it comes here:

Ooh that looks decent. Im hoping that alot of the new 'Wiiware' downloadable titles will be shmups, since thats pretty much the easiest thing to develop by yourself.

God I remember that shmup construction kit for the commodore 64. I created a Sesame Street Shmup. Yeah I went there...

I didn't know where else to post this.

Would anyone that frequents this thread be interested in a copy of Psyvariar: Ultimate Final for PS2 (Import)?

I bought it a while ago but I never play it. Id rather have Arcana Heart at this point and wouldn't mind selling Psyvariar to fund it.

So I was watching X-Play the other day and they had a review of that Wartech game for the 360. Wartech: Senke no Rondo or something like that.

I had no idea that it was a shmup. I just heard that it sucked. So I ordered a copy online for $10. I think alot of the 'it sucks' issued had to do with it being a full price game. But surely for $10 I'll get some kinda fun out of it, no?

Absolutely. I kept praying for a JP Dreamcast release but at $10, I can't really complain about the 360 version.

Most reviewers are clueless anyhow, if I showed them Dodonpachi Dai Ou Jou (however it's spelled), they'd have a freaking seizure.

Good good good! I saw the video of the game during the review and I was like 'Hey thats a shmup!' My next thought was 'Thats that game thats only $10' I had ordered it by the end of the review.

Every Shmup gets the same review in America anyway... oldschool graphics, too hard, too short, not worth full price, etc...

Wartech is really a fighting game disguised as a shmup. It's ok, but has a somewhat steep learning curve. I liked the concept, and it was fun for a while, but eventually the novelty did wear off on me. It's great for $10, though.

And more gameplay vids of Omega 5, via Kotaku, via Game Trailers:

I'm on the fence about it. I want to make sure it's good before I drop $50 on it, especially when there's other PC games I know are excellent vying for my money.

It does look really pretty though and it has the word Himmelsturmer which would scare people if you walked down the street proclaiming it. I want to like it.

Actually, I'm really considering being the guinea pig for this one. What were the play-asia coupons floating around? i'm too lazy to check.

Anyway, as odd as it sounds, I'll give the soundtrack a shot, and that's going to be a lot of what makes my decision. Strangely, you can usually tell how much effort went into a shmup based on music alone.

Okay, gave a few of the sample songs a listen... and it looks like there's enough complexity to the game to keep it fresh. If anyone can inform me what playsia coupons are out there, I'll pick this up and let you hoez know how it is.

How long does it take it get an item shipped through air class economy from play asia? Anyone who got soldner x played it yet?

I finally got my copy of soldner x. Overall a fun game with nice graphics and a sweet soundtrack. The games runs abilt slow sometimes in my sony vaio (04with no super graphic card). I have yet to go far into the game but its a game were one should wait for $20-30 price range or wait till it comes out in ps3 in which I dont have thats why I got it for pc.

I'd be happy enough if the JP version would play on a US 360 but according to Play-asia, it doesn't. A PS2 port would've been MUCH more appropriate.
