GIGANTIC Best Buy Blu Sale! Many titles $14.99 and under!

Well looks like I will be going later today and getting Zack and Miri Make a Porno, Planet Terror and maybe Superman: Doomsday. The rest I have on SD, HD or BD already and the ones I don't have are to high of a price for me to pay still.

New Frontier is really good.
Picked up The Mist and debating whether to pick up any of the direct to video DC comics. Any recommendations besides WW or is that the best of the bunch.
I liked The Mist but mine was oos of that and Superman Doomsday. I did pick up Wonder Woman though. Its probably my favorite out of the new DC animated movies so far.

Anything to say about the bluray quality of the Weeds Seasons?

Season 1/Season 2

^Each one is $15.99, which seems like a steal.

...nvm, amazon has them each for $14.99 with s3 and s4 at $17.99 and $19.99 respectively.
Lesson learned from the Mist:
If you're educated and smart, you're stupid and going to die. If you're Black, you're even stupider, following your fellow Black people outside to the slaughter. Also, sucks to those who look down on the fanatically religious, they're right. Trust blindly in your Old Testament prophets and you will be saved, she will die for your sins. God bless the religious lady. The rest of you can go to Hell.

Fixed that for you.

Great show--have seen the seasons cheaper.

If you've not seen the show, those 2 seasons are on Netflix Instant Watch if you're a member and you could check some out.

PQ etc. is fine since it was a TV show filmed in HD.

Amazon has matched the price of all the DC animated movie (except for the new Green Lantern) at $12.99 as well as The Mist for $14.99. Free shipping on orders over $25, no tax, you can't go wrong.

The best buy I went to had the two I really wanted. I would like to get Superman Doomsday as I really liked the comics only because superman was killed. Anyone know how long this sale will last?

I wouldn't call this sale gigantic, but Zack & Miri was definitely worth the $15 (admittedly, I wasn't expecting much)

Looks like I'll pick up Clone Wars for that price. I'm trying to stock up here and there for when I get a PS3.

nice. thats my only use for my PS3, to play Blu-ray's. i hate most PS3 games.

I picked up Corpse Bride, Across the Universe, (and not part of the sale but I felt like some stupid action flicks) and the Transporter/Transporter 2 pack (roughly 13.50 per film).

I caved and picked up 28 Days Later and V For Vendetta last night. Too good to pass up. I kinda wanted to grab Silent Hill too, for its aesthetic qualities, but I didn't think such a shitty movie deserved my support. I'll find it used somewhere...

Same here. Excellent Blu-Ray player.

Going tonight to check for Clone Wars. I didn't care for that movie but am picking up the Season set when it comes out and it will feel incomplete to me without this.

A warning to anybody considering 28 Days Later: it looks awful. The picture quality is not good at all. I thought there might be something wrong with my copy/PS3, but I did a little research and found that the film was shot with certain cameras that make it impossible for a good blu-ray transfer. I put my DVD copy into my 360 and switched back and forth from the DVD and the blu-ray and there was little to no difference. I'm kinda pissed, actually, and super disappointed. Thinking about returning it, even.

If you already have it on DVD, don't buy it again on blu-ray.

I picked up Silent Hill not that long ago as well. Whatever you might say about the film those creature effects are beyond creepy in hidef.

Yeah, I still fully intend to pick it up. It has elements that I like, and it's visuals are undeniably appealing, but as a movie, it's not very good. It captured nothing of the tone and themes the game possessed.

Nearly every review of this movie I've read on blu-ray has said this exact thing. Next time you may want to consider reading reviews before buying first.

Yeah, I've decided to do just that from now on. Blu-ray.com has some nice reviews on quality; they also list the cheapest price available online, or at least I think so. So far every link I've clicked has directed me to amazon, so they might just list the cheapest prices on amazon...

I've been using hidef digest for reviews. It hasn't steered me wrong yet.

Sadly though I've been buying some movies that are kind of bad simply for stellar video and audio quality lately. Crank by the way is enjoyable when drunk. I used to rarely buy action flicks, now the majority of my blu rays are action flicks.

I think the blu ray with the least impressive video quality that I own would be Taken. I knew it had flaws when I got it though but I like that film. Straight forward revenge fantasy flick.

For reviews, I've found that checking DVDTalk.com, HighDefDigest.com and Blu-Ray.com work for covering all the bases. HDD and BR both go into good details about the technical aspects more than DVDTalk, though DVDTalk will get multiple reviews on their site for some items.

I used HDD exclusively for a bit and found some discrepancies with reviews that I saw on BR and DVDTalk.

I never see the point to buying a BluRay copy of a movie that's not marginally better than the DVD counterpart, since I can get upscaled DVD quality and have it be as good as a mediocre BR. Occasionally, it's as cheap to get the BR version of a movie compared to the DVD version when they're of similiar quality, I'd lean towards the BR.

I bought 28 days later at CC when it they were having the going out of business sale for cheap. I just put it in a few days ago and was shocked how bad the video looks. The sound is not the best also. I say that because in order to hear it I have to put my samsung tvs valume upto 30-35 to hear it when most the time I have to put it to 15-25.

IDK- if Young Guns is a 3 star video by HDD's Peter M. Bracke's standards I would hate to see a :br: with a 1 star video rating. I realize it's an older review, but if that is any benchmark of their criticisms in the past, then I can't trust them. By my standards that release is unwatchable for a :br:.

The highdefdigest reviews are often really dumb. On the review for the recent Ghostbusters blu, the reviewer basically said, "I can't tell if this is based on the crappy 2005 remaster or not just by looking, so I'm going to dock the score a half a point just in case it is."

I was just there over the weekend and they still had some there for the 14.99. Not all of them were that price. you could also always try to pm their site.

lol, why would anyone buy a Blu without looking at some reviews. 28 Days Later is meant to have reduced PQ; the director purposely dialed it down a notch to get it the way he wanted it to look.

Can't complain about being uninformed.

28 Days Later was filmed in SD, except for the ending sequence. This was done on purpose to harmonize the gritty feel of a zombie apocalypse. I hate it when people complain about things like this without doing any research. And how can you complain about the audio on a blu-ray when you listen to it through television speakers? Everything should sound like garbage.

IT HAS DTS-HD MASTER AUDIO. That is uncompressed, blow your socks off audio. It sounds superb. But you only listened to the mono version or whatever it was, so we will just ignore your review.

Haha, I didn't want to say anything, but yeah, there's not really an excuse to be using television speakers to watch Blu-Rays. You can get a HTIB for like $100; no name brand sure, but still better than T.V. speakers

I grabbed Glory about a week ago. Glad I got it on sale because the picture and audio quality really weren't that big of a jump over the DVD. Still nice to have in my collection though.

Now that I know it was intended to look that way it doesn't bother me. I thought it was just a bad transfer onto BD. As for the audio I have a home theater system but I don't always use it. It all depends on what time of day it is when I watch something. At the time I watched the movie it was late at night. As for the version I listened to I'm unsure what was played over the tv speakers but I still will say that other movies I have watched had better sound when played using the tv speakers. I'm sure I can't be the only person that doesn't use a home theater system 100% of the time when watching movies or playing games.
There are many, many older movies that would challenge that -- see any of the Bond movie remasters, Robin Hood, Casablanca, etc. With the proper care and restoration, older movies can look *amazing*.

However, I seriously doubt Street Fighter will quite fit in that category. ;) (they probably used a VHS-BluRay deck in Japan to do the conversion)
Ansd have you seen Star Trek: the first season? Schwa-mazing!

His review however is on the money in regards to the video quality. Some of the issues from the 2005 DVD are on the Blu as well. Its sad that Sony didn't spend a little extra time to fix these issues. Ghostbusters deserves far better than a 3.5 stars that is for sure.

To each their own concerning where they go for reviews. I've been using it for video quality reviews and so far I've found it to be rather helpful.

Not sure why no one pointed this out with the Zack and miri question...

There is only one version of Zack and Miri. There is no uncensored, or unrated version. There is only the 1
For the Mist Blu Ray, is the black and white version in there?
correct. Disc 1 is the colorized theatrical version and the 2nd disc is the B+W version
