God of War 2 (used) $24.99 at GS

CAGiversary!
I noticed this in the e-mail they sent out today. It's a one week special ending 3/20. Not the greatest deal, but a deal none the less. You can check it out on their weekly ad on the site.

You could use your edge card and the 10% off coupon to get 20% off. The coupon expires today though I think.
Hot damn, my cheapass waiting will end 3/21
I'm pretty sure he doesn't actually have any evidence but was rather just suggesting that perhaps Gamestop is trying to unload their used copies at that price point before it goes to greatest hits. It's actually a pretty believable theory, but AFAIK its just a theory.

Oh, and plus this deal was already mentioned in the Gamestop weekly ad thread.

Don't kill my hope ;)

or you can buy this at secondspin like I did for 24 and get a perfect used copy (see secondspin thread for coupon code). I'm done buying used from Gamestop.

That's why i ask to see the disc before i finish my purchase.

That's usually what I do, but half the time the guy who's getting it for me makes a half-joke about me thinking he's trying to rip me off or as if they don't have games that are in shitty condition. That's been reason enough to avoid going there unless I need to.

I have some store credit, though, so this is tempting.

Yeah ive been waiting for it be a greatest hit so i can buy it new for 20 but if someone cant wait then this is a pretty good deal with the 20 percent off.
3/21 God Of War 2 = greatest hits.
Yeah, I knew it was coming up this month and Gamestop's sale on the used version only confirms it. They're trying to get some extra sales in before the GH price drop. Once it goes GH I'm sure we'll be seeing it on sale for $15.

It came out 3/13 of last year so it should be a Greatest Hit by now. Sony is just trying to stretch it out because of the PSP version.

someone posted a gh picture like a week ago from amazon. got to be close and im backlogged as is but good news anyhow ill snag it at $20.

Im guessing the gh2 version will not be a 2 disc set version. I thi nk my jus get the used i don't really care if its new or used as long as the box and game are good cond

get this, on wednesday i came across a used xbox for 10 bucks, no games or anything, i took it to eb 5 mins later, they gave me 30 for it (the 10 extra deal i guess), which i used to get god of war ii for effectively 11.61 after tax. then this comes up 2 days later. I take it back to see if I can get the sale price, and I end up getting the 1.61 back, plus 8.51 on my card. So for 10 bucks, I got God of War II and 8.51 in store credit. God of War II for 1.49 = Win!

I guess .... or you could look at it as you payed 11.49 for a title that will be 17.99 in a few weeks.

LOL. WTH CrimsonPaw?!? How does he spend $11.61 when he orginally used $10 bucks to get the xbox. With that he got GOW2 and $8.51 is store credit. Word problems are not your friend I see.

As others said, this was shown on Amazon with the greatest hits label by accident. It's only a matter of time (maybe two more months, tops?) before this hits $20, and then I'll go out and grab a OG copy.

Haha, exactly.

Actually, I doubt that Sony would change the GH version to a 1-disc game. Fact is GH games tend to have even more stuff packed into it (i.e. Marvel UA, DMC SE) -- that's how Sony entices players to buy it even with the ugly label. Last thing the co. would do is remove the bonus disc. In fact, I'd expect Sony to even add in some extra trailers of the PSP game in there.

So, I'd expect the contents will be unchanged at a minimum; more is usu. the tradition with GH versions.
or again, you can get this for 24 used in mint right now....
or you could wait a couple weeks and get it new for 4 dollars less....

Yeah, I guess I read that wrong. Still, if he waited he could have gotten the used copy plus about $14 in credit. Call me a cheap ass, but I'm willing to wait.

Hmm, $20 for a shitty version with raped packaging, no extras DVD, or $25 for the original copy without the ugly red stripe and an extra DVD?

Easy choice.

People have to remember that this is the used version and you have a 50/50 chance of getting that bonus DVD with it.

Hmm.. I'll be getting an extra sealed copy in the mail soon. Wonder if it's going to hold value as first edition.

This was already discussed... Greatest Hits usually have more extra then the original copies so hopefully this will stay true for this game.

How many times does this happen, though? The only one I'm personally aware of is with DMC3 and then there's the other one that was mentioned before. Granted, I don't usuallly pay much attention to GH games but everytime I come across them on the shelves, there's no mention of anything extra. I do, however, notice the big red label and the lower quality of the print paper if the original game had raised lettering (Bully) or a foil finish (Kingdom Hearts).

I don't quite get how people think that the GH boxart ruins things - I think it's completely bearable. If you want boxart that's ruined by the 'value' stamp, take a look at the platinum hits or family hits on XB360. Yeugh.
Hmm, $20 for a shitty version with raped packaging, no extras DVD, or $25 for the original copy without the ugly red stripe and an extra DVD?

Easy choice.
Well considering they sell the original non GH versions with red stickers on them at Gh price why don't you get one of those? Also, who cares about a red stripe? You're willing to pay more for a box without one? Not to mention it's already been discussed that GH content > regular as tradition goes.

I would pay on average $10+ or more not to have a GH red box. That's how much I can't stand it. I realize they want to differentiate the difference between the original and the value ones, but I just am far too much of a perfectionist. It sucks too to be a CAG and a perfectionist/collector, but it's something I haven't been able to shake. Still, great deal at $24.99...I just may bite :)

Could you please enlighten us as to how this is true? Like I said a few posts up, I'm only aware of DMC3 having more content in the GH version. Then there's the other game that was mentioned earlier in this thread. But other than that, I didn't know GH copies of games almost always come with better content, as it appears to be alluded to here in this thread.

It isn't always the case that GH versions are better than their original counterparts but besides a non color instruction manual it's not usually the other way around. I suppose that's a more accurate statement. As for other games which follow this trend someone mention Marvel:Ua though I admit I agreed with the statement like a sheep. However, quite a few games at lower price points had more and better content. MGS2:Substance, MGS3:Subsistence, Persona 3:FES, RE4. These aren't greatest hits (actually MGS will be with the essentials set I believe) but they follow the lower price more content trend.

Ok, I dont know what the hell Persona 3:FES is so I can not comment on that. But as far as MGS2:Substance and MGS3:Subsistence they were sold cheaper than the first releases and made with extras because the original games had been out so what was the point of a rebuy if not?. Same with RE4, RE4 had extras that the gamecube version did not but did come out till almost a year afer the gc version did.

I think the vast majority of Greatest Hits versions of games do not have any extra content. There are plenty of director's cuts editions that get released at a lower price point and with extra content, but that is different from GH.

Agreed.

Silent Hill 2 had some extra content on the GH release. Marvel:UA just came with an extra disc, IIRC.

EDIT: I was trying to come up with some other games that have additional content. Can anyone think of a Sony game that had additional content added?
"actually MGS will be with the essentials set I believe"

"Your point with MGS2/3 in this comment doesn't make sense considering you can say the same of all games that go greatest hits. Why purchase a game again just because it's cheaper? Adding extra content is a good way to get that second purchase, but as discussed already very few games actually get this treatment."

Right but these games were sold with the focus of the changes and additions they were not sold as greatest hits.
