God of War Collection - The Thread

Just finished GoWII today before work; an improvement over the first in every way. I just bought the PSP title as well, so now time to dive in to that. I also have to re-try the GoWIII demo now; to see if I'll like it any better, now that I'm much more familiar with the GoW games / franchise.

Got the platinum.

Beat challenge of the gods a day or so ago. Never tried it. Was super hard. 8/10 is a serious pain. Then I thought 10 was going to be a huge pain too, but that didn't take near as many tries. Just had to find the method that worked for me.

Was a dairy bastard and my speed run came in around 2h56m. Not super great, but not bad.

Going to leave GoW land for a bit and play a few other things before 2... then 3.

Thanks Noir, holy cow, i didn't even know there's such thing, how the hell those people came up with this! Man, it's pretty awesome... That's pretty sweet, it basically unlocks everything from that point on, lol.

Yeah I wonder the same thing. I wonder if developers put them in on purpose or its pure accident?

Just finished GOW1, and it was awesome. Never played thru it when originally released, and boy did I miss out.... Like a poster prior, I'm gonna relax on GOW before attempting 2, don't want to burn out on it. Just an awesome game.
FYI. There is one in both games.
The ones in GOW are more practical than the one in GOWII.

I gotta wonder that too with some of these glitches. The ones I've messed around with in GTA IV, for example, some of them just seem like maybe someone making the map missed placing a chunk of wall here or there. But you would think that the company would've patched those somehow to forgo any exploitation of them.

Some of them are fun to mess with though(swingset glitch), while others are a pita to get into(Rotterdam Tower glitch).

The Kratos battle at the end of GOWI is f*cking annoying. Worst fight I have ever played and its ruining an otherwise awesome game for me.

Whoever thought this fight was a good idea should be kicked in the nuts. Repeatedly. Same thing with the second boss fight. Stupid shit. This isn't Street Fighter. Bosses should be challenging not cheap as hell. I really like the move that you can't tell if its coming, it can't be blocked and then it takes away 90% of your health. Meanwhile your hits do about .0005 damage.

Finally! Defeated

try doing it on god mode then youll end up wanting to kill someone. i love gow1 but that final battle ( especially the clone portion) was flawed and damn cheap. if you beat it its basically luck.

Hey guys. Im thinking of returning my copy of Killzone 2 that i bought @ GS and switching it for this. Sure i may have to pay a couple bucks, but is it worth it? Killzone 2 is just too difficult for me. I have never played God of war in my life, so you guys think i should do this?

^ KZ2 is not that hard if you play easy... GoW is known for button smashing, puzzle solving, brutal combos, naked chicks and Greek Mythology. I personally dig the Kratos story, it's very intriguing. To me, GoW has everything, it's rare to see a game with good game play and solid story line.

Oh, if you find GoW is hard, just play easy mode, it's more fun that way. Unlocking the Platinum trophy can be a pain, but hey, if it's not meant to be then move on, there has to be something out there you can platinum!

I'm saving the Collection for 2010 (really want to play when GoWIII is around the corner), happy new year guys/gals!

There are some frustrating parts in both games, but that's true of many games nowadays. But as long as you take your time and learn some of the combos(square, square, triangle is a useful one, as it smashes shields) you should have no problem with these games.

Now, the Challenge Of The Gods on the other hand, that may make you want to smash your controller at how frustrating some of the enemies are on it(especially the satyrs).

Hey guys,

Just got a PS3 for Christmas, and believe it or not, never had a PS2. So very eager to get this to finally play GoW 1 & 2. I was in Best Buy this week grabbing MotorStorm: Pacific Rift for $20 and noticed that you get $10 off the collection if you pre-order GoW III. Is this the best deal or should I hold out for something better?

Can anyone tell me if this game runs in 1080i? I've read that it outputs in 720p but could maybe upscale to 1080i? Is this true?

Made it to 10/10 on CotG and left my PS3 paused overnight; came back and it was shut down mysteriously. Now I have to do it all over :(

10/10 sucks bad. I couldn't figure out how to stay in the platform :(

Hold down L1 and press X... which I think slings you into the air with an attack... steer towards enemies/the platform and keep pumping X over and over again while in the air. When you land, just keep on doing this over and over again. This attack is one of the few that is good against satyrs and dogs. It will keep you on too... may take just a few tries. But it shouldn't take more than 15 minutes of effort.

8/10 is the one that took me forever and made me get pretty angry...

Back of the box only reads 720 and has 1080 "unlisted." So, probably not. Though I am not 100% and would depend on your TV capabilities. And 720p to 1080i is not really that big of a deal. 1080p would be though.

Same here (for everything). I just gotta say though those rotating columns with the spikes got on my NERVES! :censored: I hear the sequel surpasses 1 in every way including visuals. However somehow I got sucked back into Fallout 3 so looks like I'll be taking a detour to GOW2...

I also beat GoW1 for the first time. Those rotating spiked columns pissed me off as well. I swear I didn't even touch those spikes and I still kept flying off! I had no problems with any other part of the game.

Just finished GOW 1 today/tonight? and it was good, but it just didn't have the appeal that it did years ago. I also beat the challenge of the gods which was infuriating, but I felt good afterwards. I have 84% of trophies, but 3 playthroughs of this game is enough. I'll tackle GOW 2 sometime in the future.
so are the graphics in your guys opinion a big improvement, i have only seen like 2 videos
I think so. It goes into some weird not upgraded visuals for some of the cut scenes, even though they appear to use the game engine. But running in 720, the game looks really sharp.

Finally beat the Challenge of the Gods! Woo hoo!

@Saint Noir

Thanks for the advice for 10/10. I got thru the first 9 challenges in like 15 minutes (this is my third freaking time getting to 10/10).

It took me maybe 15 to 25 minutes to finally beat 10/10 even with the L1 + X combo. When the satyrs grab you and fling you over their head, there isn't a damned thing you can do; and lots of times you are set down off the platform.

Now I have to do the speed run and get the 100 & 200 hit combos and I got another platinum.
Now I have to do the speed run and get the 100 & 200 hit combos and I got another platinum.
Speed run in the dairy bastard armor (infinite magic) and just spam Poseidon's Rage to get the 200 hit combo. Easiest place is when you get one of the two shields and tons of guys drop down when that thing is coming to crush you. You can also do it easily on Ares.

What's a speed run? Is it the one you have to beat the game within 5 hours to get a gold trophy or one of the challenges? I didn't know you can unlock the 100 and 200 hits combo in the "Speed Run." I was planning to unlock the 100 and 200 combos in the game using Poseidon's Rage on the little pups.

Wait a min, are we still talking about GoW1 or GoW2? Sorry, i don't remember any speed runs when i played the PS2 versions....

Yeah, GoW 1. Beat the game is less than 5 hours. It is a normal play through just trying to do it fast.

You just skip everything that doesn't force you to fight by blocking you in and if you mess something up best to reload from last checkpoint.

The spiked columns in hell weren't nearly as bad as I remember. I just continually hopped on the horizontal ones and didn't ever have to correct my balance, and then I just charged through the vertical ones and got through rather quickly. I must have gotten real lucky.

And you did it in TWO hours or so? Did I miss read your post earlier? That's an insanely awesome feat.

Just shy of three. Which really isn't that hard or fast. It goes by surprisingly fast when you can just run by everyone. I wish you could skip the cut scenes... that seemed to take as long as the actual game.

Thanks man, that's some good encouragement. When i look at the list of the trophies, the 5 hours or less one i hate and i want to give up the platinum because of it. Well, looks like i'll Plat this one.

You can use a costume and beat the game in less than 5 hrs and still get the trophy, right? I already used the business suit to get the extra experience...

Yeah, the bonus armors after challenge of the gods don't disqualify you.
I got the GoW orb glitch to work. Never even knew about it when I played them on the PS2! haha
I'm sorry, I'm a little unclear on this. What is this glitch, exactly?

The glitch is actually very easy to do... the video made it sounds like a difficult thing to do and so do the numerous posts on the FAQs boards.

Basically if you're playing EASY, all you have to do is hit R1, the Harpy will fall in front of the ladder. Then just walk toward it, sort of kick the Harpy closer to the ladder, hit up on the the left stick and square to kill deliver the final kill.

Once the glitch starts, you can do your stuff, you don't even need to leave your controller untouched. Of course, as long as you don't climb pass the ladder... The infinite red Orbs sort of follow you around (within range), even when you back track and save the game, the glitching Harpy is still there, lol.

It took me a minute to do it... If you don't get it right the first time (it's hard to do on the first time due to positioning of the Harpy), just restart the check point. When you restart, the Harpy is circling around you, all you have to do is hit R1 in the direction of the ladder.

I just Beat GoW1. Awesome game. I beat the Challenge of the Gods on PS2... now its time to do it again! I will attempt it tonight.

i just realized that if you have the Harpy glitch on, any health or magic chests you open will not replenish the bars (within the glitching Harpy's red orb range), weird! To reset that, you will need to kill the glitch, i.e. go to the ladder and kill the Harpy one more time, lol.

I jumped over the glitching Harpy and got the handle to the Atlas statue, so basically the glitch is working forever in that area of the game...

In GoW 1, the only trophy I have left is to beat the game in 5 hours. I am going to attempt that tonight and tomorrow morning. I think if I spam magic attacks, the battles will go rediculously fast- and I wouldn't power the blades of chaos up. Magic is GoW is pretty godly. I would avoid all red chests and anything out of the way. 5 hours still seems like a short amount of time....

Any recomendations?

In GoW2, I have to beat the challenge of the titans. Over time I will get this :)

Hey, i'm in the same boat as you flameofdoom :)

Start with the Diary Bastard skin for infinite magic and that should do the trick. However, you should power up BoC to level 1 at least. For one, you'll get the PoP attack and for two, the R1 dash (Hermes dash?). The R1 dash is recommended for "walking" faster, i.e. you do one roll and R1, much faster way to walk. Remember the desert part?

SaintNoire was able to do it in 2-3 hours, so, there's plenty of time... I even plan to glitch the harpy to power up the magics (Rage and reserve the orbs for Soul later). I think maxing out the Rage magic is recommended.

I'll be taking a break from GoW, after platinum the first one, can't wait to start the second though, but i really want to start playing Darksiders...

I'm trying for the same thing. I just got to the top level of the pandora's box temple (forgot the name) and I'm 3 1/2 hours in. Kind if scared I'm not going to make it.

If you are moving, the part from the desert with the sirens on should only take a total of 2 hours. So, depending on where exactly you are depends on how you are looking. But I think you are OK...

Yeah, I was able to pull it off. Glad I don't need to start over.

I just need the 200 combos trophy now; I have started a new game with the dairy bastard, but I'm playing on easy this time, and I am wondering if the enemies are too weak to get the 200 combo. Since they die easy, I'm not able to get the combo too high. I have not made it to that one part where you're about to get crushed; should I start over on normal or hard to ensure that I get the combo?

Nah. There are plenty of guys there to get it any way you go I think. I got it on easy I am pretty sure. You can also get it at Ares if you have a full magic bar. So, you may try that if you have a save there.
