GOG Deals Thread
Out of curiosity does anyone have any experience with GOG and newer games as far as if they post notifications when there are updates?

The only newer game I have from them is The Witcher 2 and while I did get notifications of updates for that when I login to GOG, it's their own game so it's kind of a no-brainer that they'd post update and patch notices.

It's just something I've been wondering about because I know GOG has been pushing more into new, albeit mostly indie, games of late.

I'm kind of bummed I missed the Inquisitor sale even though I'd much rather have it on Desura truth be told (or Steam but not holding my breath for that). Most indie devs seem to forget about Desura when it comes to sales though. :whistle2:(
yea, its steams game!

I currently have 4 games that are marked as "Updated", including Resonance, which is a fairly new game.

Now, you might not get automatic updates like on Steam, but they do tell you about updates.

Riddick hasn't been below $5 on Steam, the Steam version has Tages, and there are no Steam Accomplishments.

There seems to be no good reason to choose Steam for this title over GOG.

I get notifications for games like FTL and Retro City Rampage. Of course GOG versions don't seem to get patched quite as quickly and I've often seen devs say things like, "Patch 1.03 is live on Steam and should be on GOG tomorrow." That makes me think that even when patches are done at the same time for both versions the process is slightly slower at GOG.

But... but... Steam won't record my gameplay hours... or... or let me download it from their content server if I don't buy it from them. :whistle2:#

You can use XFire or Raptr for time-tracking.

I'm amused. While I do find the tracking of the hours played interesting (mostly from a rough measure of how much game time did I get out of game-X, I'm a bit surprised by the sizable segment that really reaches out for it with XFire & Raptr (or wanting it on steam for the tracking).

In WoW /played time was a number that would come up a couple times a year, we'd compare numbers, and then try to forget.

It does really make me wonder what my /played time would be for Deathlord or Wasteland. Or even Dune 2, Carmageddon, I76, Diablo 1 & 2.

I had Raptr installed on my last build for about a month and found it "interesting". I just built a new PC last week and didn't install it. I really don't need an app to tell me that I play video games way more than the average person.

I only like it when it's Steam that's tracking it. I already have Steam installed and running when I'm gaming, and I have zero-to-negative interest in installing another program just for that reason.

Really, I don't care much about tracking hours at all. It's interesting to know, but it's hardly the end of the world if it doesn't track. That post was supposed to be a joke - I thought the typed stuttering would have been a giveaway. ;)

Only if you don't already have half the included games - I wish GOG would do a real sale and not this 75%/50% crap.

Just so you know if you already own part of the bundle you can buy the rest and still get each game at 75% off. It'll grey out the ones you own and adjust the price for the rest accordingly. At least that's how they've been doing it so far with this sale.

This is the first bundle I've been excited about, but I don't want about half the titles in question. (When it comes to these old Sierra games, I'm horribly fond of the Text Parser-utilizing iterations.) Therefore, the "Bundle or Limited Discount" issue hits me particularly hard - Basically, I want about $10 worth of that set, but it would cost me $20 to leave some of these games out. (Incidentally, it's also $20 for the whole bundle.) However, I'm a CAG, so, to me, saving that $10 is huge. Plus, Steam happens to have the Space Quest Collection (Space Quest 1-6), which will no doubt reach a reasonable sale price in the near future. For these reasons, I'm out.

Futhermore, weren't these packs on sale for $2.99 each when they weren't part of today's bundle? (Yet, not buying the whole bundle results in the games being $4.99 each.) Shoite, GOG.

Kudos to them doing this, that's great.

That's something at least, but unfortunately I own the Space Quest games on Steam, the King's Quest games from from Telltale, and so on, so that doesn't do me much good.

Juts a reminder to Idiotekque (or whoever else has the power to update thread titles) you should probably remove the part about Duke Nukem 3D. It's no longer free.

Hmmm. Those police quest games look interesting to me. Anyone play them? I've never played these sort of text only adventure games - how are the puzzles/gameplay?

I played Police Quest 1 way back when. It fit in gameplay-wise with the other Whatever Quest games. They aren't text-only. In fact, these early graphical adventures were notable for having graphics in comparison to the earlier text adventures.

The graphics were awesome. 16 color EGA followed by even more colors with VGA! (At the time, they were pretty awesome, actually.)

Expect very good puzzles. These games set the standard.

God I remember playing King's Quest when I was a kid. When I snuck into the witch's candy house and it she popped back in and it started playing the evil witch music (ok well more like bleeps and bloops) it scared the bejeezus out of me!

Those old Sierra games had a way of scaring children. When I was younger and could have potentially played Leisure Suit Larry 2, there was an alleyway that was usually harmless.

However, during the course of the game, Larry received an item that instantly made him hunted by a particular group. Taking the alleyway following that point results in a man that walks towards you. (Marked #12 in the image, which was the only one I could find of the alleyway in question.) Just as he appears, a piercing, discouraging tune would play, and it may have consistently creeped me out.

It didn't help that that section was typically dead quiet.

I couldn't even play the Sierra adventures as a child. The concept of making one slight misstep and being screwed over, sometimes in a very uncomfortable fashion, just turned me right off. heh... I even had Scott Murphy apologize to me personally for Space Quest IV being an immediate deathtrap on PCs as soon as three or four years after release (timing issues).

Well, on the plus side, even the earliest games in these Quest titles featured saving at any time. (A hallmark of even early PC titles.) Part of the fun of these games is running into an unfortunate mishap. There are issues, like not having the "endgame item" after making it to the final area, but, when some of these games take about an hour when one knows what to do, it's not as bad as it sounds. Still, it's definitely not for people with a limited amount of time. (These aren't games to be rushed anyway.)
I use raptr and keep it installed for the occasional good giveaway they have.
Amen.
Also, I like both XFire and Raptr - so, for a lot of my non-Steam games, I use them for time-tracking & screenshot-taking.
They should just rename this the my childhood bundle.
Exactly! I am feeling so nostalgic now. That's a huge amount of mostly very good games for $20 although I would swear I already bought the Quest for Glory games. Maybe I just thought about buying them but didn't.

Thanks, keep forgetting. Title updated, old promotions deleted from the OP.

Today's promotion is the "Defend & Conquer Bundle" (75% off)
It includes the following titles: Defender's Quest + Anomaly + DEFCON + Uplink + Spacechem + Darwinia + Multiwinia.

Ouch.. all of those except for Defender's Quest have been in indie bundles.
Ouch.. all of those except for Defender's Quest have been in indie bundles.
I admit, I'd buy Defender's Quest at $3.74 (Wasn't it just above $5 in a recent Steam Daily Deal?), but, since I own quite a few of those titles through Steam and already-DRM-Free bundles, I can't justify the $17.68 bundle price.
Ouch.. all of those except for Defender's Quest have been in indie bundles.
Not only that, but a lot of those games were in the buy 5 games for $10 promo GOG just ran at Thanksgiving.
I bought a lot more during their Summer "vote and save" thing. Haven't gotten one thing yet from the holiday deals.
If it had been posted maybe a week later, I would've bought the hell out of the Sierra bundle. Too bad about my broke ass I guess. haha

Is there any indication they might bering back some of the past days deals at some point?

I'd really like to get Inquistor for $3.75...and then proceed to bug ask politely the developer if I can get a Desura key.

It's back today.

It's a little hard to tell based on the information on the front page, but it looks like this is the last day of the sale?

This definitely isn't the last day of the sale. I think they just have the counterdown timer as a joke, the current dailies will end 10 am EST tomorrow though.

Some of these new deals will be repeated again. The Belated Halloween bundle is one of those that has been confirmed to be repeated.

I think they are just trying to get in as many sales as possible before the Steam onslaught starts tomorrow.

Yeah, that makes perfect sense.
I was already looking at buying La Mulana, so that Jupmin' Indie Action Bundle is mighty tempting.
Well, as an FYI, that's a bonus in the Groupees Greenlight bundle.
