GOG Deals Thread

I admit, this always confuses me.  I mean I don't mind it, but putting everything on sale one day, then removing most everything and dividing the sales up again just seems weird.

Well, Laffer Utilities won't work on modern Windows systems, for one. And Larry's Casino... I have no idea.

I actually own the physical box version of the Larry 1-6 set - it even included a huge book about the series.

 
has anyone else been getting corrupted downloads from gog. When I download a large file and I start the installation it will get half way through and then it says 

"The setup files are corrupted. Please download a new copy of the program."

They managed to suck me back in with some of those bundles as well.

I grabbed the Rebellion bundle, the Unreal bundle, the Wing Commander bundle, and the Indie platformer bundle. (with Guacamelee and Dust)

The Rebellion bundle was a very easy sell. It was loaded with critically-acclaimed classics. A lot of people probably looked at it for Ground Control and Evil Genius. What interested me the most was that it had all of the Lords of the Realm titles. I played and adored Lords of the Realm II back in the day. I still have the original discs. Having the GOG releases of these titles was barely a decision.

I've always been curious about the Wing Commander titles. And the Unreal bundle was also an easy recommendation. The original Unreal still has some delightfully atmospheric moments, and UT is a multi-player classic. UT2K4 is still one of my favorite large-scale multiplayer shooters.

 
Thoughts on Larry: Magna Cum Laude?  I know it wasn't well-received at first, but that doesn't necessarily mean anything.  Anyone actually played it?

I did. It's pretty boring overall and it fits like this....there is a girl that's your target you talk to her at first (some mini game with sperm going to responses) and then you usually do some horrible mini game and then it usually ends with a horrible quarters mini game (flipping quarters into a shot glass), than you get a horrible sex scene usually with some gimmick of the girl and this usually causes the sex to be less than great, and then you move onto the next chapter with another girl. Some girls have more mini games and dialogues to go through before you get the sex. It was horrible to say the least and repetitive as hell. Nothing is very funny and the girls are pretty annoying.

When about to install - ALWAYS Let it always do the integrity check.

It often will tell you what file + BIN file is the issue.

If it says which BIN file - delete that one; activate it to re-download; and it'll just re-download the corrupted BIN file.

That's always how I've always done re-downloads from GOG.

it wasn't bad, but I mostly bought it for what it included, since the game was in a bargain bin

Is it just me, or have the flash sales been the same things over and over this entire time? I have a lot on my wishlist I'd like to pick up but I keep checking to see if it'll go on a flash sale.

Yeah there's been like 2 days worth of flash sales being spread out over 2 weeks, ill keep checking just in case but I'm kinda disappointed (the sales we are getting are awesome, not to mention the freebie, but GOG has such a huge catalogue that showcasing only these is a little disappointing imo)

Every now and then they slip a new one in (I saw BlazBlue for the first time yesterday), but by and large it's just repeats at this point.

I agree they could be doing more, but to be fair, they've put like 300+ games in flash sales at this point.

Well, as good as this sale has been, the only game I've bought has been Magrunner.

I guess I just pretty much already have most everything I want on GOG. At some point I realized how unlikely I am to get around to another ancient game like Krondor when I've got 10+ games just like it untouched, and that's probably at the top of my GOG want list, so...

Anyone know if 11th Hour has been a flash sale?  I gave in, and picked up 7th guest a few hours ago, and would like to complete the set.  Just don't know if I need to be watching GOG constantly, or if 11th Hour isn't even going to show up as a flash.

Yup, it's been a flash deal and should appear again.

At most you just need to check the site every 2.5 hours or so.

The sale runs thru June 29th, so you should still have a pretty good chance for it to show up a few more times. I wouldn't lose sleep over it.

I have Hitman: Contracts from retail.

That version used that awful StarForce disc-check DRM - bleh.

I only have only Hitman: Codename 47 on GOG.

I have all of H2:SA + H:C + H:BM from Retail on disc; and Hitman: Ab on Steam.

Summoner is currently $1.49 on GOG in a Flash Sale.

Anyone ever play this RPG from Volition before on PC or PS2?

Thoughts?

Bought it on Steam, since it's cheaper on GameFly.

Found out it's DRM-FREE on Steam, thanks to Neuro5i5. :D

Yeah you're right, I guess its just when you own basically every popular game not seeing the niche stuff left on your wishlist is annoying on its own haha

Thankfully the only games I want from gog at this point retail for under 8 bucks anyway!

 
Been playing Papers Please... and I have to say I am disappointed.  This thing go a lot of hype... but it is boring.  So far nothing to make me feel like I am making a difference.  (I had 2 girls killed .... oops.)  Hopefully it gets better.  

On the flip side, Jack Keane 2 is awesome!!  (At least it looks awesome sitting on my shelf.  hahaha)

I picked up The Bard's Tale at the last minute, and Magrunner of course

I changed my mind and am now waiting for the Avernum complete saga and possibly Jade Empire if Steam doesn't beat it

While I don't have it on Steam...

Just be aware that it's well-known Jade Empire: Steam-version has some issues of its own.

If you want it on Stream - just be prepared to do some fixing on your own, to get it going.

That's up to you.

I mean - either way, it look like you'll have to deal w/ Win7 or Win8 issues.

It's just Steam-version has extra Steam-related issues.

I know some people love to own everything on Steam - and can understand why someone would buy it there, even despite it having more issues. If one's tech-savvy - seems like they can get around it.

Personally - I'd rather have both versions...I'm greedy like that. ;)

If I had to pick myself - I'm a DRM-FREE nut and don't wanna deal w/ extra issues - I'd probably rather pick GOG Version.

I already have Jade Empire on retail DVD. Undecided on rebuying JE anywhere. It's not like I plan to play it soon, I don't think...

Would anyone actually recommend Ultima 1-3? I have the rest but am tempted. Suprisingly I don't think I played them much when I got the Ultima Collection from Sams many years ago....I mainly played 4+.

You know I'm an Ultima fan from way back but I really can't recommend them. They are just so seriously dated. I mean they were dated in the 90s. I'm almost embarrassed for GOG to even be selling them. The 4th one's even free and the first 3 are even more bare bones than that so I don't get why they would charge for it other than I guess because they can.

I'm sure purists would have a fit at me saying this, but there's an NES version of the third one that I think is slightly more tolerable in an RPGMaker sort of way. Of course you'd have to hunt around for that and an emulator.
